2021-2022 UNC, Chapel Hill

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Complete 7/31/2021 and haven't heard anything yet. Is this just a soft R or do you think they haven't reviewed my file yet? I'm not too hopeful, but I'd like to hear back. From what I understand, they send rejections in waves, and don't wait until the end of the cycle to do it--is that correct?
My friend intervieqed in Jan and heard back in March. Just take a deep breath. Its a long process.

So does UNC accept update letters at all? Their website says no updates to AMCAS or Supplemental App, is that synonymous to no updates about new jobs at all or just can't change the primary/secondary? Interviewed early November and spoke about this new job but didn't have it on my app. Thanks for the clarification

For any accepted applicants:

In addition to the enrollment deposit, did your portal update to say you need to send them official transcripts from your undergraduate institutions? Is there a deadline for this?

I interviewed 10/15 and haven't heard back. Should I still be hopeful?

I would remain neutral, lots of people haven't heard back that will get an acceptance. During my first cycle I interviewed ~10/15 and didn't hear back at all, but many people who interviewed in that same timezone heard back at different points during the cycle, all the way between then and the very end.

Good luck to everyone interviewing today and congrats to all of the accepted folks! UNC is a fantastic place to go to medical school

Secondary completed 7/30…IS and no emails or update. Just awaiting decision.

Hey y'all. Just interviewed on Monday and I don't think I did too well :/

UNC is definitely my top choice, but I kinda messed up some of my answers and I didn't get the vibe that my interviewers liked me. Is there really no update letters or anything that I can send? Just kinda sucks not being able to do anything

my portal just changed to "decided" when i checked this morning and i got an acceptance call a couple hours later! interviewed in mid-september
Congratulations!

Interviewed October 18th. Portal changed to “decided”. Does UNC do post interview Rs? Or just waitlist everyone they don’t accept
Update: Just got the A call 🙂. If anyone has any insight on the question I posed, I think it would still be helpful for everyone. Good luck to everyone throughout the rest of this process. Super long and stressful so I'm sending out positivity.

Hi Enchiladaman,

Unfortunately, the word last year was that sending an update when they specifically said not to is a good way to get a rejection. Your interview was likely not as bad as you think, and the interviewers know that applicants are real people. At this point you just have to trust that you did the best you could in the moment and wait on their decision. Best of luck to you!

Congrats! To answer that question, from what I remember the post interview rejections usually do not occur until a week or two before the deadline in March (I believe that's the deadline for waitlist). Then you hear back about waitlist almost the day before or the day of the deadline in my experience.

Does anyone know when they will send pre-II rejections? I’ve been complete since mid-September and my portal still says awaiting decision

they interview until January/February (at least they have the past 2 years), but they send pre-II rejections throughout the process. They have sent a few several weeks ago, but another common time is around New Years. Its a waiting game though.

Congrats to everyone who’s received an A! I’ve really enjoyed my time at UNC and I’m happy to answer any questions y’all have so feel free to reach out as you’re weighing options

OOS Reapplicant (with slight ties to the state as I did my gap year doing research at Duke), submitted 8/1 and have not heard anything. Anyone else in the same boat?

Those who just got the pre-II "decided", are y'all IS or OOS?

Just got my Pre-II R, RIP. Schools are really dumping all their Rs out right before Christmas I guess.

Pre-II R, complete 7/30, sad about this one. Good luck to everyone else!

Not sure if this is the right place to post/don't use SDN much---Only places I've gotten interviews from so far are UNC (IS) and Duke. Applied to 21 schools. 4 pre-ii rejections so far.

I'm worried lol. Did these schools only interview me because I'm IS (Duke is private but idk if they prefer NC residents)?? Have other NC residents had the same experience?

I'm in NC, too- 7 interviews so far (applied to 14, 3 DO, 4 MD). the only ones not in NC/SC are LECOM and Drexel.Got into LECOM, VCOM, and Campbell, WL WF, interviewed at UNC, Drexel, and Brody. So, yeah, I think the regional component is a factor.

I only interviewed (and A) by UNC and got R by OOS. Regional is a factor that helps.but it doesnt make u a worse applicant
