2022-2023 UT Houston (McGovern)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do we think McGovern is done w/ II now? I completed late bc of CASPER — October 28th. Also OOS 🙁
I applied late too, early September. It seems if one does not complete by early August toast. I am already looking to the next cycle, I had a death in the family and applied late for all. 🙁

I went through a similar personal difficulty and wish you nothing but peace. For the moment we can just remain optimistic, and remember that everything works out as it should. And at the end of the day, if you really want to be a doctor: You’ll be a doctor. You’ve got this. Sending nothing but love ❤️

Thanks Little and M4. I am actually applying to return to complete medical school from scratch after I had to leave after completing my first year. I had kidney failure and received a transplant so trying to finish what I started 10 years ago. Harder now, in finding time to prep for a MCAT as I am old w responsibilities. 🙂 Thanks for the well wishes I was supposed to take my MCAT around the time my daughter passed away and when I asked for a refund, AAMC said I waited to late and told me to pound sand. Still miffed but whatever, I do not expect any special treatment having to start from scratch again.

Don't lose hope. I was complete around the end of October and was still able to get an interview. It's not over until it's over

To anyone with an acceptance and still in classes for their undergrad, did you guys already send in your transcripts to TMDSAS? Or are you waiting for final grades to be posted?

Farewell McGovern :’( Thought I had a decent chance here but welp, the application cycle is a giant black box so who knows what will happen!

Hahaha. Hopefully joking. But I was the same way, grumpy going 6/7 acceptances and wondering why that one medschool didn't accept me. Medschool will teach you to be grateful for what you have and not pine over what you don't as you prepare for the residency match which is 100x more anxiety inducing.

I applied mid/late september and interviewed in october. Don't lose hope!

You have gotten 9 IIs including UTSW, Dell and BCM, you'll be fine lol. You can't interview at every single school
You're right. Neurotic premed mode is just kicking in... I feel like a bombed a lot of my interviews, and while I do like the schools I pre-matched to so far, it's been radio silence from some of my dream schools (UH and McGovern among them). I need to take a break from SDN lol.

McGovern isn’t very prematch heavy right? (Sorry if this has been answered before in the thread just lazy to look back lol)

I saw earlier that it was posted that last year there were two main rounds of prematch offers but on SDN I could only find one... is there any other way to find out when there might be another round of prematches. Not that I'm anxious or anything 😳

I interviewed here last week and during the interview day they said that the admissions committee will likely send out one more round of pre-matches but didn’t specify when. They also mentioned that they plan to send out ~100 pre-matches in total (they worded it as “half their class size”)

Wow, so there are a lot more than we see shared on SDN ( I knew this, but wouldn’t have guessed 100)

Thanks for clearing this up! They are definitely very selective with their prematches

Thank you!!! This is very good to know

Pre II R
Complete early August
Letter says:

Thank you for your application and interest in McGovern Medical School. We regret to inform you that the Admissions Committee will not be offering you an invitation to interview and your application is no longer under consideration.

+ it goes on to say thanks for applying and we considered seriously, good luck with the rest of apps.

I’m not bummed out at all tbh cuz my MCAT was 500-505 so I didn’t expect an II. Plus DO schools have been showing me love.

Thank you for posting. It is surprising no one else received them yet (or not posted) since these are usually done in bulk.

Wondering if they did something similar to UTMB where they sent out pre II Rs since most of the interview season is getting over and they only have a few slots left or if they will send to everyone.

I feel like I've neurotically followed SDN threads and app cycles since 2019 yet I've never seen Texas schools send out Pre-II R's before match day to IS applicants. Is this a new thing that's happening this year ? Or have I been missing this 🤔. I also wonder if schools are sending out Pre-II R's strategically, or at random. It sounded like UTMB Pre-II R's were all sent out on one day (SDN is a small pool though so I understand if this is not what really happened). Wondering if McGovern is doing the same thing, or will send out more R's in the coming week.

This message is written by a 😍 proud 😍 recipient of a UTMB Pre-II R who is wondering if a Pre-II R from McGovern is on its way as well 🤐
