2022-2023 UT Southwestern (UTSW)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Looks like UTSW is starting to invite Group II. I heard from an IS ORM who has LM score between 71 and 72.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed with this whole group 1, group 2 obsession? Like honestly it doesn't matter in the end. It only causes confusion and unnecessary anxiety to an already stressful process.
Honestly, I just coast throughout my day without a care. If I get a II, good. If I don't, that's okay! I just bought Beefeater gin and I'm gonna be making my first gin and tonic today after work, so I'm excited. Enjoy your life and stop being obsessive over things.

I got an interview today but I have never heard about the optional information session. Can someone tell me how I can attend one?

They sent an email the day after my II to RSVP for the events!

You can also check the Interview tab in the admissions portal under online resources and events. The next one is next Wednesday, but the previous ones have been recorded and linked in the portal.

Easy to say for someone with 11 II’s

Didnt you just turn 21?

Btw who already admitted you?

I see 16 IIs on that profile..

II received 9/13, application was complete 8/31

LM low 70s, traditional and in-state applicant

Does anyone have information on the format of the interview, e.g. is it open file or closed file? Feeling excited and a little nervous, this is one of my top choices.

Edit to add: Earliest date to schedule interview was Oct 15.

They have access to your whole app except for stats.

Thank you I found that today! I was literally at the mall when I got the acceptance so the portal's screen was too small lol. Do you know if there is a recording anywhere for the ones that I have missed? I really wanted to have made it to the research one 🙁

Yes, they have all been posted in that same interview tab of online resources and events! It says “click here” next to each of the past presentations and it’ll open up the recording

is it normal for the portal status page to still read: "Please note: Your application status will not be updated until your Secondary Application is submitted." even after secondary submission?

I'd give their system three business days to refresh and show that your secondary was submitted (if you just submitted it today. If it's been a while since submission, it may just be a glitch).

it says the same for me, is that true for people that have heard back?

Does anyone know whether they will ever tell us the name of the two people who will interview us?

For those of you interviewing on Sat, have you gotten the zoom link or your interview times? They said they release it 48-72 hrs before

Does anyone have any insight on Group I IIs? I have LM81 and have not received an II here. Texas resident, complete 7/28, ORM. Don't think I wrote anything that would have caused my app to get flagged as I've been able to get plenty of other IIs, but this is still causing me to worry a bit (joined SDN just to ask this). Friend with high stats as well (LM~77) also has not heard back. Anyone else in a similar situation? Should I just be more patient?

I expect them to send out interview invitations on several more days in October and November

Genuine question: how do we know Group 1 exists? I have seen it mentioned often on SDN, but no where else. Even when I look up “UT southwestern group 1,” nothing comes up. Is Group 1 II’s real?
I got flamed when I spoke out against the tyranny of the group 1 police on here. Look at us. We're waking up to the truth. On a serious note, it seems like II timelines have been a bit different this year. Maybe that's affecting what we're seeing.

Group 1 police here!

Unfortunately, the link is now disabled but here is a post from 2020 class thread with specific description as UTSW had in their top secret documents!

That says “mcat, gpa, LOR, health care experience.” I thought Group 1 was just GPA/MCAT? Anyways, thank you for finding the document! Interesting read.
Good to see you have noticed the updates. I was just checking it out and about to edit my post. They have added additional criteria to state they will in fact read your recommendations and consider healthcare experience which differs from 2020 post which was clear they only considered 2 attributes and didnt look at rest of the app before interview.

So it does make sense that some people are not hearing back as quickly as process seems to have changed to include actual reading of the app and recs.

I wonder if a significant proportion of prematches are given on Oct 15 as opposed to later dates, especially compared with other schools, because UTSW looks to interview its “top” candidates Aug/Sept through Group I.

❤️

Group 1 is dead. Long live (slightly more holistic) group 1. Good work everyone.
They just added layers on top of the GPA and MCAT but they are still saying they will review those first.

Reviewing apps based on highest GPA and MCAT as opposed to in order received is still a huge advantage for high stats people. All they are saying is it is not automatic just based on those two numbers since some people still need to read everything.

Review process is flaky. Even when they are done in sequence or out of sequence, the process usually says one or more people review and rate the app and based on the rating, people are invited for interviews. So now it is based on the reviewer(s) entirely and the coordinator can be waiting on one reviewer who has not turned in their recommendation for someone to be interviewed with LizzyM score of 81 because they forgot to respond or took a 2-3 week vacation and there is no way to take it back and send it to someone else. In the end, the advantage that was held by Group 1 for early interviews is no longer 100% and it is probably down to 80-90%.

Anyone know if UTSW accepts pre-II updates? LM 76 and applied early... really hope to hear back since this is my top choice!
Alas, they do not accept updates at any point. Save up your recent news & take the opportunity to talk about it if invited for an interview.

The only thing you can do, if you are still in college, is update your TMDSAS portal with your Fall 2022 grades, and all your TMDSAS schools will get that update.

Does anyone know if acceptance notifications are coming out Oct 15th via email or on the 17th?

Each school releases their own way. If you stay on this thread, you will know if you need to find it in tmdsas or email.
