2022-2023 UT Tyler

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks, for the news. I have trouble counting these “friend of a friend” got in reports. Is your friend who got in the same friend as someone else’s friend who got in?
But it makes sense UT Tyler has continued making small numbers of offers.
That’s true! I believe the other mentioned was a utt undergrad student and this individual did not attend utt for undergrad but it’s difficult to gauge regardless!

Any news of second look days? Maybe those who have pre-matched? Or the school may not be offering them since the interviews were in person, but I recall a few people in the thread saying they were planning to host some this spring.

They did have in-person interviews, so you got to see the town.
Second-look days are much more common in AMCAS.
Several TMDSAS schools did have visit days for accepted applicants, taking place before the ranking deadline of feb 17.

UTSW has a second look for admitted students separate from visit days. These are meant for students who are trying to get settled in at the school and start making local arrangements rather than trying to figure out the school itself since this is the opportunity for them to meet many admitted students at once and figure out if they like their classmates, want to be roommates with anyone etc. and check out apartments more than the school itself.

If a school does it before match day, they are trying to convince students to make up their mind. If the school is too small like UT Tyler which is just now trying to open a school, they are not concerned and if someone does not show up for free tuition, they will just admit someone else.

To those who have interviewed already, what was the MMI like? How many stations were there? Did they ask questions about medical ethics? Was dinner provided at the meet and greet and about how many students attended?

There were 6 stations. Can’t discuss the questions unfortunately. No dinner provided at the meet and greet for my date, just water. There might have been a hiccup on my day with the food delivery though. They did provide lunch the next day after interviews. There was 24 students on the list.

I loved their interview process. I felt like I nailed the MMIs and actual won the group interview challenge.

Glad you had a great interview day! I had a nice experience too. Did they mention anything about pre-matches? If they are sending any more or about how many have been sent out so far?

Question about the curriculum as a newbie to medical education. I see that you're only allowed to select electives in the fourth year. If you're interested in a different specialty, but you're unsure, how would you go about exploring that before applying for residency? It seems like third year is IM, Surgery, Neuro etc only and no electives. What do y'all think?

This is very standard across most medical schools, core rotations 3rd year and electives 4th year.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Many who figure out they are interested in outside of standard rotations try to do them in 4th year and try to go to different programs to spend a little bit of time and make a favorable impression. This is common for specialties like Derm, optho, ortho etc.

Im glad you had a good experience. But may I ask what makes you feel like you nailed the MMIs. Did the people who interview you look impressed or react in a way that made you feel confident.

Isn't 4th year too late to figure out if you want to do a specialty. Especially if its competitive?

residency app submission date is late september and final date is late Feb to early March to rank a match list. Many do a research or masters year if they plan to apply for a competitive residency.

Sooo last interview is 1/26 and prematches have to be sent by 1/31 correct? So we will hopefully see some movement 1/27, 1/30 and 1/31.

I am assuming that there are still no acceptances for people who weren’t born and raised here, even if they went to school here, so I’m thinking that they wanted to get through their interviews first to assure that they got as many of those people in the class as possible, then will move on to other ties. Just speculating for fun… 😭

Man I miss when news was daily. It made time go by much quicker

Just want to provide an update that I was provided. If you interviewed on 12/20, the adcom still hasn’t been presented those applicants to evaluate so don’t sweat it, and relax 🙂

Multiple people have reported As that do not have ETX ties but adjacent county ties, so they have accepted students that weren't born and raised in ETX. Their mission seems to be to accept those from ETX and also those that are disadvantaged/1st gen/URM etc as they want a class representative of the population

when i say “here” i’m also thinking adjacent, but they’re all from ETX/adjacent before college from what i’m aware

Did they mentioned when they would be presented to adcom?

How do I message privately on here? 😅 I would like to join the group!
omg! what do you think helped you stand out?
Hmm it's kind of hard to know exactly what, but I know my essays and LOR's were strong. I think my interviews went great too. But that's about it haha sorry if that's no help 🙂

I think your privacy settings have to allow someone to message you directly. You can click on the mail button and send a message directly to a user!

If I were to send an update letter do I just upload it to the "Document Upload" section of the application and leave it be or should I go ahead and email them?
