2023-2024 Michigan

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is it every Monday?
Yes till like October/November where it starts spacing out. You can look at the interview dates posted to figure it out since the invites are sent a month in advance.

Seems like UMich favors applicants from ivy leagues and top schools, huh? Sad bc I felt like I was a strong mission fit

I don’t know that they necessarily favor them, just that most of the T20 caliber applicants will come from top undergrads naturally.

For the Michigan interview confirmation essay questions, should we write them like a secondary essay or more straightforward?

Like @Labe said, this school does tend to draw applicants that come from top undergrads. However, I’m a current M2 and many of my classmates also didn’t go to extremely high ranked undergrads. Heck, my undergrad isn’t even in the top 10 within my own state.

I don't think that is a fair assessment and somewhat reactionary. I interviewed last year in Febuary with a LM of 70 from an unranked undergrad. They care much more about fit than stats in comparison to other programs. First batch of interviews usually goes to out of state and is stat heavy, but it is so incredibly early. They've only sent out 5% of their intended interviews so far lol

N = 1 but I’m an M1 here and I went to a state school. From what I’ve noticed not everyone in my class at least came from an Ivy League. There’s a good chunk of people I’ve talked to who aren’t.

how do you know 36? is there a tracker or something? btw is there a tracker website for all schools? I know wayne has one
i think only some schools have them. Vanderbilt and UofA phoenix come to mind as well.

Another week, another Michigan Monday...

Do they send them all out at once or is there a delay? I haven’t gotten one (complete 7/13) and I’m trying to stay hopeful today is the day ahaha
Not sure, but the other posters posted after 1:30 EST as well so looks like it may have just been one ole batch. Maybe they'll post on Twitter.

Hey all sorry for the detailed question - when you get II emails are they coming from the portal (like applyweb), same as how the secondary was sent? My app had a glitch where I never got the secondary until I emailed admissions directly and I had to work with IT to get the link but I'm afraid "portal" emails weren't fixed (and there's no way to view correspondence and I don't have an interview "tab" in the portal.) Is there something indicating an interview on the portal, so I can just check each Monday? Thanks SO much!!! Otherwise I'll have to awkwardly email admissions again (because weirdly the ones going directly to/from their office were fine).

Stupid question, but does UMich require all LOR before reviewing your application like other schools? Committee Letter took a while for them to finish. 🙁

+1 OOS interview.

Anyone have any idea if the US News Compass numbers on acceptance rate are accurate for interview invitees (337/408). MSAR verifies the 408 number for II, but I can't see number accepted in MSAR, unless I'm missing it. US News number seems crazy high acceptance rate post interview.

Thanks!
Michigan posted a 5 year admissions snapshot that shows that their post-II acceptance rate is that high. MSAR does not put the number of accepted, only matriculated. https://medicine.umich.edu/medschoo...cker/Five-Year AdmissionTracker 2018-2022.pdf here is the link for the snapshot I mentioned.

Should be relatively accurate. Different schools have different policies and different ways they evaluate applicants and some take up to 95+% post-interview while others take less than 20%.

Does anyone know if the invites are completely chronologically or if they go back to earlier submissions? In other words if I completed in 7/13 but didn’t get an invite yet should I consider it a soft rejection? UMich is my first choice so I’m a tad stressed :’)

They go back and work on rolling. In state gets sent after out of state. Got an invite to interview last cycle in December after being complete early August. Wouldn’t stress too much since there is nothing you can do at this point, just enjoy the time you have before starting medicine.

Congratulations! I don't recall the stats, but I have heard from current students that the acceptance rate from II is very high!

According to last year's thread, people who submitted in July were getting invites in November, so looks like there is hope for both of us still...
