2023-2024 UCLA (Geffen)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They acted extremely stoic, questioned my answers aggressively, etc. It wasn’t really a conversation and felt like an interrogation. One got up and left in the middle of my sentence for a few minutes and acted like nothing happened.
Just curious, what was your preview score if you don't mind me asking? I'm wondering if certain preview scores tend to correlate with this style of interview.

Also, just wanted to put in my 2 cents - I participated in a pipeline program at UCLA and we had mock interviews from UCLA DGSOM staff. Our entire cohort was exposed to the stress interview, so it seems to be a staple for UCLA (that apparently only some will endure). Just some food for thought!

Oh interesting! I scored a 6 LOL. Which isn’t amazing but that would be interesting if it is the case. If it matters, I also primarily applied MSTP and only interviewed for MD (but they won’t disclose if I’m not being considered for MSTP anymore). I PM’d you!

hmm not sure if that is, because I also got a 6

For those of you that already interviewed, was it MMI or traditional and with how many different people? There's not much online regarding the format.

That sounds really rough, sorry you got not only 1 but 2 of those kinds of interviewers

Would you say it’s too late for me to apply to UCLA lol? I just found out I have family moving to LA so it’s now a more viable option for me.

If I submitted 8/1 as IS, does that mean I have been skipped over?

Just checking again, anyone else who applied to prime La + traditional get an II for traditional track?

I feel like they choose us as much as we have to choose them.... I dont like that... like okay ask questions aggressively but respect my time as i respect yours. What's this getting up in the middle of a person's sentence. Sheesh

Yo current MS2 here with several friends who had the same experience as you. Sorry about what you got dealt my friend. I will say that a part I found absolutely hilarious from UCLA stress interviews is that they get aggressive about the applicants answers and try to phase them. Feel free to reach out if you wanna chat!

does anyone know if there is correlation between early interview and higher chances of admit rate?

also, for those who have interviewed, how was your experience?

No correlation whatsoever between when you interview and when you hear back from UCLA because they rank you based on application and interview. They also factor other things in your rank that I don't know about. I interviewed in January and was accepted in April about 3 years ago.

When do they give out acceptances for the first round interviewers? Did they say? Or will they wait till mid-Feb like UCSF is I think starting to do?

Is it even worth it to apply with a 503 MCAT with 120 CARS if I am in-state? Overall great application with a first and second author papers in a good journal, but I have a low MCAT. When I look on MSAR, it says their 10th percentile is a 503 and 25th percentile is 506 with a 10th percentile of 123.
Hi. Wondering if you got a secondary from ucla?

is ucla a true MMI? or is it just like traditional interview questions with different people?

Still nothing for me in regard to traditionally track. Was complete 07/29. I know PRIME- LA sends out II early Dec.
same. I read i think either in this thread or somewhere else that UCLA does their II based on application strength? but i'm also not sure if that's entirely correct

Isn’t that what all med schools do??

From what admissions people have told me, it's not ranked?? They said as long as you haven't been rejected, they are still in consideration. So, people who haven't received secondaries/II are still being factored in and may receive something if they didn't get a hard R.

They also stated that applications might have differences that are not the same between applicants who submitted on the same date since multiple people review the app, leading to a range of delays. Additionally, having a Preview score is necessary for receiving II for MD only but not for Prime (however I might have misheard this point). However, they did make a note that PREVIEW scores are mainly used as one of the factors for making the final admission decision. This is what I've heard from one of the virtual hours so apologies if I misspoke or misunderstood those points.

Not sure if I missed it in an interview day presentation, but do we send thank you notes to the admissions email?
