er....i like the place (Duke-NUS campus)?
i dunnnoooo.........

Er, no you don't. You like the NEW campus don't you? HAHA

As for me, I guess I'm really sick of the abstract nature and lack of human interaction of fundamental research. I want to have a balance of interacting with humans (not petri dishes or rats) and the trill of solving problems and learning something new. It's a balance thing for me. Duke-NUS allows me to customize my involvement in both to a level that is suitable for me.

So, Hopeful... what's your reason?

It has been awfully quiet in Duke-Nus land lol.
The days are going by so quickly!

yes it is. anyone receive news from Duke-NUS yet?

I haven't heard anything either. I'm guessing that's because of the Chinese New Year holiday so hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Fingers crossed!

yep, hopefully some of us will hear news from the school in feb.
but i'm thinking that the sch might only send out acceptance letters after the feb interviews.. after all the applications have been assesed, makes work easier for the admin staff.. but ah wells. ^_^

I would think spreading the load would be easier for them. Sigh... the tension is starting to wear on me.

I am also very intense. Hopefully there will be some news from DUKENUS in Feb.
Is there any interview in Feb?

But on a serious note, guys, instead of worrying ur life away, why not do something constructive and positive such as community service to aid those in need with ur time? It's definitely going to be along the same path as an ideal doctor that you should aspire to be.

already done! I volunteered at SGH and will be starting next week!

I don't think I'm necessarily "worrying my life away". I mean, I keep pretty busy but because whatever decision is made will have such an important impact on my future, its always in the back of my mind.

It might seem neurotic to be talking about all our anxieties here but I think having supportive folks on these forums who are going through the same thing helps a lot.

Yes how many more interview days are left? Anyone know?

i don't know how many interviews there are pending, but i do know that Duke-NUS accepts the Jan MCAT scores. I have a friend who is taking his MCAT this week, and recently completed his secondary. So there will be at least one more interview in Feb.

yes, instead of worrying my life away, I presented my clinical research on disparity of breast cancer treatment to my hospital's breast cancer director this week. It was an informal presentation(not a presentation at a professional meeting), but I wonder if it is something I could mention to admission committee...

Based on what happened in my year, only the extremely well-qualified ones that they are certain they want to get received notifications earlier in Mar. Majority received their letters in April, as I did. Good luck to everyone!

yeah man, it always is nice to have support groups like this, but just wanna remind everyone not to get too caught up in it and end up getting carried away.

guess we all have till end of april to start panicking

update: the committee is currently processing the applications for the january interviews

.... at least we know they dont have huge lag times between interview and processing like a lot of schools

For those who are taking MCAT in these 2 days like me, we'll only get our result early March, or late Feb the earliest. Hmm, does that mean there'll be another round of interview in March?

They won't invite for interviews before getting our scores, will they?

Good luck to everyone waiting, use this time productively ok.

Best of luck on the MCAT.

Well on the website, you do need your MCAT score.

I also think the interview season is coming to a close in the U.S with a few more interviews in Feb. in Singapore.

But who knows.

Yep, nice to know that i'm not the only one going almost nuts hoping to find a letter from the school in my mailbox sometime soon...but i do agree..this being quite a significant milestone, its only human to worry about it even while going about our normal lives/work/activities. so take heart everyone! 🙂🙂

Thanks for your post, psymedicus. I was wondering, since you are currently studying there, if you could tell us a little bit about your experiences as a med student at Duke-NUS so far.

Aside from the amount of work, is there is anything you particularly like or dislike about the program and school? Is there anything you wish you had known before attending Duke-NUS? I am also curious about your clerkship experiences in terms of what your daily schedule is like, what your responsibilities are and how staff at SGH/KKH treat students of Duke-NUS.

I'm guessing you're probably incredibly busy so any info would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

YAY! Just got a letter of acceptance from Duke!! 😀

erm, i think he/she is a Singapore applicant

YAY! Just got a letter of acceptance from Duke!! 😀

congratulations!!

i know you must be busy celebrating.. but i hope you find time to answer all our questions soon, i think we're all anxiously awaiting answers!

Thanks!! I'm a Singaporean applicant. My interview was in Dec... anyone from Dec interviews?

They send me the offer letter thru' email, but if I'm not wrong, the hardcopy should be on its way too.

For those who are still waiting for reply/interviews, good luck!!!

Congrats!

Were you early Dec or late Dec (if there was any during that time)?

And I assume you were of "high-caliber" to be offered early admission as per the website lol

YAY! Just got a letter of acceptance from Duke!! 😀

Congratulations!!!
Does the letter specify when you have to confirm your acceptance by? That way, we'll know when the admissions committee meets next to select the next round of applicants.
Hope everyone else is well!! 👍

My friend has also received the acceptance letter from Duke-NUS.
I attended the same batch of interview with her in Dec.
I think I have almost lost the oppotunity to be accepted. Maybe I should choose to receive PhD education in US.

I don't think ALL hope is completely lost. Like they said in the interview: the majority of acceptances will come in April. AFTER that, then backup options are front and centre.
But I agree, I think everyone is anxious at this point. It wouldn't be normal if you weren't:xf::xf:

Hello aspiring doctors! Can anyone proximate the time frame for the next group of U.S interviews, maybe from past reference or inside knowledge? I was curious to what days or weeks I should expect an email in regards to an invite, and what days or hopefully weeks I should continue with my mundane frolicking.

In all honesty, I think US interviews are over for this round. I maybe wrong but I think the interview season for this year intake is coming to a close.

All the best.

And congrats to the people who got in so far. Just 2 more months for most of us.:xf:

Yes, I believe they said our interview at Duke in early Jan was the last of the US interviews. However, I'm sure if they will figure out how to interview any very promising candidates! :xf:

I'm not sure about that, I sent my application in on the 12th hour and I received an invite to write a secondary application which I submitted in mid Jan. if no more interviews why did they bother? Also I just emailed the school, about the same question and the response was...

It'll most probably be in end Feb or early March. The dates are not fixed yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the deadline Dec 1 for primary or are you one of the few that were still in consideration after Jan MCATs

Well if you look through the thread, people do get the invite to the secondary fairly quickly. Some get an interview even before submitting the secondary.

Not saying that there may not be anymore interviews but I believe the majority of the remaining interviews most likely will be in Singapore. I also do remember what wannabestudnt recall.

Anyways good luck👍

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has a clue on how the financial aid (FA) review process works? Do you guys suppose there is any communication between the adcom and the FA committee? (i.e. only the candidates who are going to be offered a letter of acceptance will have their FA applications reviewed ) or do these two committees work separately? (i.e. all FA applications are deliberated by the FA committee regardless of whether that particular applicant to the GMS is eventually going to be offered a letter of acceptance.)

They are separate.

i think theyre separate, but run at the same time so that they can send an acceptance letter and the FA package being offered at the same time

I'd think that the FA comm only reviews the FA applications of those who are selected by the admissions comm, if not, won't they have to spend alot of time going through every FA application regardless of whether that applicant is accepted by the school?

yeah i d think of that as the logical flow of events. but fizban and wannaBaMedstdnt seem to be very certain that the committees work separately? You guys got some reliable source of info there?

I believe they work separately, as in the FA committee's assessment does not impact that of the admissions committee. (ie needs-blind admissions). However, the FA committee probably review only those applicants accepted by the admissions committee.

well, i believe the FA committee sends out the application for FA routinely the moment interview is concluded. While i do not disagree that this may be done only for candidates that are short-listed, this "short-listed" list should pretty much be the same as the list of those who went for the interview. And that probably means those who are 1) getting in and those who are 2) on the waiting list.

We really shouldn't read too much into the process from our point of view, as i believe things are much different from the inside.
You might want to check with Tammie on the process.

Warmest Regards

that's kind of what i thought... but in the end, does it really matter? they will send you a financial aid package when they send you an acceptance so you will know when you need to know. breathe! 🙂
