Hey guys, same song and dance here, appreciate all of your help!
(SORRY for long post) I am an Asian student and am looking at these two schools.
I got into Morehouse before Rosalind Franklin so I was really eager to go since I really liked the school. I like the people of the school, the small class size, and know people in the program. Also, I love Atlanta. I grew up close to there in Augusta, GA, and I have a lot of friends in Atlanta. I'll be rooming with a lifelong friend while there. However, I'm not sure how to compare Morehouse with Rosalind Franklin.
I know Chicago is a really cool place, but I know North Chicago has nothing in it. It could be a good place to study, and I can go to Chicago with friends after a 30-45 min drive. I'll probably be living in Chicago proper during my 3rd and 4th years, and I'm okay with large amounts of snow.
Location aside, both schools have (I guess) similar match lists with a good amount in Internal Medicine residencies, which is what I am currently interested in. RFUMS's clerkships are in a lot of different hospitals so they give a good amount of exposure in different settings, but Morehouse has a lot of their clerkships in Grady which I thought was awesome and really busy and crazy during my tour. I thought Grady was a high point for Morehouse's education, which does not seem to have as good basic classroom resources as Rosalind Franklin. I also like the community service and free clinic work that Morehouse tends to push heavily for its students. I feel like I'm a good fit for the mission of Morehouse (though I do not want to go into Primary Care).
Will there be any significant difference in me, not being a URM or African American, going to either of these schools, which are both about mid-tier I'm assuming, when applying to internal medicine residencies? Are there any disadvantages of going to either school? In terms of opportunities or recruitment practices for Internal Medicine residencies.
Maybe it is because of the stigma of HBCUs not being up-to-par, which I know is false since I have friends who go to some and love it, that I want a justification to go there over RFUMS. I think I'll enjoy my life more and be in better spirits for the 4 years I am in Atlanta over Chicago away from all of my friends and family, but I ultimately want to go somewhere that will help me achieve my overall goals. If Rosalind Franklin will help me get better residencies if I do well at either school, then I'll take that into consideration.
Sorry for the long post, but I really appreciate you guys' help! Thanks in advance!
TL;DR - Love Atlanta, but am indifferent to Chicago/North Chicago, will there be any disadvantage for me going to Morehouse over Rosalind Franklin for Internal Medicine Residencies?
