Follow your instincts, and forget about the noise. If you like MWU, go there! If you only care about the money, then go to UF
I think making a decision to save $100,000 or more hardly qualifies someone as “only caring about the money”. “Only caring about the money” would, for example, be like choosing school (x) over school (z) simply because school (x) offers free dental loupes while otherwise having the same net cost as school (z).

But yes, I do agree if MWU is a huge overwhelming favorite and you don’t like UF, by all means, go to MWU.

You are reinterpreting my 2 cents based on what you think the language I used literally means. What I meant by “caring about the money” was in an attempt to provide a clear contrast to the OP when choosing between frugality and practically vs happiness and adventure.

So again, if the OP only cares about the money, then they should go to the cheapest school, but if money is not the most important variable then they should go to the school in which they will be the most content for the next four years.

I understand your point.

I have an interview here next week and I'm wondering if someone who's already interviewed can give me an idea of what the schedule is for the day?

Thanks for any help!! 🙂
Also....is there a place to put luggage since I'll need to go directly to the airport from my interview?

Your day will probably consist of the following:

- A welcome/intro at the academic facility session for 30 min
- Transportation to clinic
- Dean's presentation and tour
- Transportation back to campus
- Sim lab presentation and tour
- Financial aid session
- Lunch with dental students (they will interview you later as well!)
- Student panel
- Interviews
  • You will be assigned to one of the two interview panels (2 faculty members, 1 student)
  • You wait in the waiting room with the rest of the interviewees until your assigned time
  • Finish interview, go home!
The whole day will run from 8:00 am until you're done with your interview (1:40 pm - 4:00 pm) depending on your assigned time. So the actual interview is about 30 minutes and 10 minutes for them to get ready for the next person.

Just wanted to let those on the waitlist know I emailed the university that I will be declining my acceptance. I was accepted to IU, which is instate for me. Good luck to all those waitlisted. I was so impressed with Midwestern, broke my heart to decline!

Does Midwestern send out waitlist? Or is it only by inquiry?

They will be sending you something in the mail notifying you if you’re on the waitlist. If you want to know now, you can email admissions. They replied to me pretty quickly 🙂

Also....is there a place to put luggage since I'll need to go directly to the airport from my interview?

They have a closet for luggage in the admissions office. After your interview, you'll have to walk back to the admissions building. You'll want to enter through the right side (facing from the street) of the admissions building, and someone will open the door for you since ID's are needed to enter buildings.

Hey guys, so a questions about the Anatomy prereq. I'm currently taking A&P I at a community college. It has both a lecture and lab component and is 4 units. Does anyone know if it'll fulfill the Anatomy prereq or do I need to take A&P II as well?

"The Anatomy and Physiology requirements may also be fulfilled by taking Anatomy and Physiology I and Anatomy and Physiology II, as some universities offer combined courses"

If you are taking them combined together you have to take both according to their site.

I emailed admissions, and they said A&P I alone will fulfill the Anatomy prereq. I did see that on the site, so I guess the interpretation is:
If one needs to satisfy both the Anatomy prereq and the Physiology prereq, A&P I and II must both be taken.
If one needs to satisfy the Anatomy prereq, A&P I is sufficient.
If one needs to satisfy the Physiology prereq, A&P I is sufficient.

Thanks for your reply! Just wanted to double check and also have this recorded for others in the future 🙂

I didn't hear anything on 12/3 and interviewed in Nov. I got a letter in the mail earlier this week saying I was waitlisted.

Hey y’all,
I made a Facebook group called “Midwestern CDMI class of 2023” - feel free to join 🙂

Did it actually say waitlisted or that you were now on an alternate list?

I interviewed in December and received a letter (in the mail) saying I'd been put on the alternate list and that I needed to contact them if I had more to add to my application. I'm thinking it's because I still have 3 pre-requisites to complete (which I'm taking next semester). These are listed now (since my interview) on my portal under: "Needed For Application to be Complete".

Is there a difference between the alternate list and the waitlist here?

I'm thinking that I will just call and talk to someone in admissions, but does anyone know if they will be in at all this week or if I should just wait and call next week after the 1st?

Waitlist= alternate list. On my AADSAS status it says waitlist. I also have a pre req to fulfill next semester and notified them via email.

My good friend who applied and interviewed here also received a letter in the mail stating they were on the "alternate list". They also have several classes now listed in their portal that need to be taken before their application will be complete.

She called admissions and talked to someone there after receiving the letter and they were very nice. They flat out told her that those put on the alternate list had a strong enough application to get an interview invitation and had also done well in their interview (or would have gotten a rejection letter). But until her application was closer to being complete, they cannot offer her an acceptance. In the letter it pretty much explained this too, I guess, and stressed it was important to keep them updated on any changes regarding their application.

So, basically I do think they may keep them a bit separate (those told they are waitlisted....if you read through the thread, you'll notice some on this thread had to call them to be told they were on a waitlist). There can be many reasons why someone is waitlisted other than their application not being complete.

My advice would be to call admissions and ask some questions and find out the specific reason you are now on the alternate list. It very likely sounds like it's because you still have several prerequisites to take.

Good luck!! 🙂

Thank you for the reply! Did you get a letter in the mail then too (stating you were on the alternate list)? My AADSAS status still says "none" even after receiving the letter, so it gets pretty confusing. Have you called and talked to them?

I will let them know that I'm registered for the classes listed (for next semester). Will that help or do they actually want to see the class completed with a grade given?

I hope we both get good news soon!!

Thanks for this information and help! I did feel like my interview went very well (and I loved this school!!).

I'll give them a call and see if I can get more information. I'm hoping it's just that I still need these prerequisites and that it will improve my application when they learn I'm actually registered to take all of them. We will see, I guess! Just more waiting....ha!!

Yeah, there was a discussion about this on one of my Facebook groups and I'm trying to remember if there was more said. I do remember at least a couple who said they received rejection letters already from here and I know one felt his interview didn't go well (just didn't connect with the guys interviewing him).

I know the waiting can be hell 🙁
Here's to it hopefully being a short wait!!!

Hey a friend of mine was accepted, she received an email from MWU to send a reminder about the deposit and that the office will be closed from Dec. 24 and will open again Jan. 2 for holiday break

Thanks for that info. I'll just wait to call until after January 2nd then. I'll post what I find out!

I assumed the same thing (waitlist = alternate list). My AADSAS also says 'waitlist' while the letter says alternate list.

Good luck to all of us!

My AADSAS status changed to waitlist actually. I sent them an email that I am taking the final prereq the spring semester. I don't see why they would hold back if I need one more class, which I'm already registered for

Hey everyone! I have an interview scheduled for MWU coming up and need some advice! Specifically for current students or those who have already attended an interview. I have been accepted into one of my top choices and I’m debating if I should attend this interview. The COA for both schools is the same. I currently live in down town Chicago so I wouldn’t mind staying at all. But what makes MWU stand out from other schools? I know I 100% want to be involved with research in dental school as well as in my career. I just haven’t heard much about MWUs research reputation, so any insight on this would be great! I wouldn’t want to attend a school that doesn’t focus a lot on research. I wouldn’t want to attend the interview if I know I ultimately wouldn’t be happy there if I were to be accepted, when it can go to someone else who would! Thanks!!!

The dean sat with us at the panel he told us directly this is not a school for research, but they do have research opportunities available. He said they want you to get up and be ready to practice after your 4 years. I thought it was weird because my app is very heavy on research and felt like i didn't fit in when i interviewed. The dean just straight up said this without anyone asking a question about it.

Has anyone sent in a letter of interest and was successful in receiving an interview invite?

Got the acceptance call today, interviewed Tuesday. Received invitation to interview email last Thursday, exactly a week ago. When I signed up to interview there were still multiple dates available. At my interview they said they interview around 500 people and you have about a 70% chance of acceptance after you interview. Good luck to all those still waiting to hear back!

Has anyone gotten rejected from here? They have been silence since I submitted my application.
