University of North Texas (UNTHSC/TCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My portal has said, "Your application is under review" for 2 months now!

Us out-of-state people are supposed to find out on the 15th if we are accepted or not. I'm SO NERVOUS! I really love this school. :xf: Monday can't come soon enough!

You've got fans rooting for ya! 🙂

Hi, I received a voicemail from Caroline that only said "please call me back"; by the time I had the chance to, she was out of the office.

I figured that she was calling to tell me there was something wrong with my application, which was only submitted September 23rd (very last minute).

However, after reading these forums, is it possible that I am being invited for an interview?

The reason why I am so shocked is that I applied so late and my stats are below average (GPA 3.44, sGPA 3.24, MCAT 25Q, retook 9/11, scores pending).

I'm so anxious about calling her back tomorrow morning, can I expect good news or maybe this is all just a mix up?

Thanks.
You should call first time, you never know, it might be the best news of your life (like it was for me) besides, what do you have to lose? worst case escenario you will be asked to send them something else (like a trascript or something) but best case they will invite you for an interview... let us know

It's probably an interview!! My GPA is identical to yours but I had a higher MCAT. They really do look at the whole application so don't sell yourself short!

Sure. I am instate, actually I am in Fort Worth (which I hear helps), non-URM.

I graduated May 2011 with a degree in History and have been taking upper division science courses part time and working as an ER scribe part time since then.

GPA 3.4
sGPA 3.2
non science 3.7

1st MCAT 5/19/12, scored 8P/10V/7B/Q
retook 9/11/12, scores not yet released

I finished everything on TMDSAS at around the end of June, but I had LOR problems and did not submit it until the end of September.

Considering my numbers, I think I was invited for an interview because I only applied to DO schools and expressed strong interest in osteopathy and TCOM.

I had no research but good volunteering, and I guess they liked my essays.

Good luck to everyone, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would even get an interview invite
Awesome! Thanks a bunch and good luck! Tear that tihs up!

What is the appropriate process for submitting a letter of intent?

MY application status still indicates that my application has been received and that my application is complete. How long does it usually take after submitting the secondary and being complete that the status changes to under review?

I never went under review and have already interviewed.

Did your status change at all? I was under the impression that it said "invited for interview" or something like that.

My status changed from application complete to interview invite to application under review to application reviewed.

My status changed from application complete to interview invite to application under review to application reviewed.

Mine went from complete to "you have been invited for an interview" really fast, like two days. Then after my interview it changed to "your application is under review" and it has been stuck there for over a month! It's making me sick with anxiety!

Since I'm out-of-state, my release date is this coming Monday the 15th. AHHHHHHHH!!! :scared:

Our stats are very similar. My GPA is a little higher but same MCAT, good LOR, 1000s of clinical hours (also an ER scribe), and I was complete in August... But no invite. Why do you hate me, TCOM??

It's okay, we will have to wait. Until then just relax and don't let this stress you out. You'll get plenty of that once you get accepted 😀

:boom:Oh Texas........... Make me wait months for a decision.... lol

I believe that the interviewers do not know you're GPA or MCAT scores, so just remain confident and rock the interview!

Dang what a bummer! I'm sorry you didn't get the score you wanted!

The interview is a partially closed file meaning that they don't see your grades, MCAT scores, or your LORs. They only have your essays and your chronology of events. It wont affect your interview at all however, the admissions committee will sit down and look at your entire application and make a decision with the recommendations of your interviewers. They will see your new MCAT score then I'm sure...

Just rock that interview and don't give them any reason to say no! 👍

There have been people that have gotten into TCOM with lower MCAT scores. So don't count yourself out.

I know someone who was accepted with a 24 last cycle. Don't worry, you got an interview! That's awesome and more than I can say lol

it is funny how life works; I expected to not have any interviews but score in the upper 20s in order to prepare myself to apply next year, but then I wind up actually getting an interview and a lower score.

my first and lowest AAMC was 24, and I literally scored everything between 24-29 (a 29 3 times)...

I was hoping that I would do well enough to never see the MCAT again, I guess now all I can do is just focus on this interview and hope the stars aligne, and maybe I won't have to face the MCAT again after all...

Relax man. I have a decent MCAT and weil likely not get an interview. The mcat is only a piece of the puzzle. They like you enough to interview you. I'm sure you weil do fine buddy. Good luck.

Sent via my crappy phone.

exact same thing here, i dont want to hear any complaints about only having to wait until Monday though. The rest of us in state folks have to wait for november at the earliest

🙁 Sorry, point taken.

Am I allowed to share my excitement/devastation if I get news on Monday at least?? 😳

Got an interview earlier this week.
have 20mcat, 3.1 gpa, DO letter and 5 years of hospital experience in OR, lab, ER.
Any tips from post interviewees

Do your best to look your best for the interviewers, try to rock their world... just my two cents

By the way, my status changed today from "you have been invited for an interview" to "your application is under review" exactly one week after my interview, but I know I will not know anything until at least Nov. 15- Feb. 1st.

Now the wait begins...

Just relax - they want you there as much as you want to be there. Don't bother bringing anything with you as you'll get an info packet and the names of your interviewers when you first get there. Take advantage of the MS2/interviewee Q&A during lunch and the orientation lecture as there is likely to be a lot of useful information - specifically pertaining to the state of healthcare in Texas, OMM, and TCOM. For me, it was almost a study refresher before going into the interview. I was able to confidently articulate key aspects of OMM, for instance, in much the way the MS2 did. I'm sure we all brush up on this before attending the Interview but I found it useful nevertheless. My interviewers were a PhD and two MD's (3 total). They have everything except your GPA and MCAT. As everyone here has stated, they are very conversational. Expect all the usual questions from the forums. One of my interviewers asked me my MCAT score and so I told him. Another threw an ethical question at me. Otherwise everything was very casual. Anyway just do your best - its all you can do. Otherwise its up to the Adcom to pull you from the crowd afterwards (60-70% interviewees were accepted last year depending on IS or OS) Be happy you're there and have a drink after - no need to worry.

Hey you all,

A quick look at previous posts is making me think that "jsc149" is posting in the wrong forum. I have higher than average stats, clinical experience, and I have yet to see my TCOM status change....

If you read the pre-osteo forum, 20 MCAT/3.1GPA gives you virtually no chance of an invite at any DO school let alone TCOM. Also, it is hard to ignore the drastic differences in the stats posted above..... What is going on?

Man, I feel like an ars!

good catch! yeah stats have been going up. a combo like that wouldn't pass muster anywhere. not credible.

edit: the unt gsbs website says "to qualify for consideration for medical school admission at TCOM... a GPA of 3.5 in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences' Medical Sciences program; Competitive MCAT score"

That's tough man, keep at it though. I'm sure as you keep doing well in your grad program, your chances will skyrocket.

24 MCAT, instate, interviewed on August 7th

🙁 Aw man I'm sorry to hear about that. I hope you have better luck in the rest of your app cycle!

Did your online portal ever change from saying "your application is under review?"

Good luck on your next interview! I'm sorry about your rejection letter 🙁

Anybody other than JaBoomDay and myself waiting for some news tomorrow??

My portal still says I'm under review. :scared:
Does it have to change to "has been reviewed?" Do we find out by email?

This school has turned me into that typical neurotic pre-med. lol.

Good luck Atlas! Hopefully we'll be classmates next year 😀
