So i have done many searches on this site and on the internet and I just wanted some feedback from RFU students or anyone that has any knowledge on the subject. I have an interview coming up and I just wanted to know some key things that makes RFU stand out from other Chicago medical schools. I have already been accepted to Midwestern University, and was pretty set on going there, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to check out RFU and consider it as well.

Are there any specific things that RFU offers that led people to chose it over other schools? My main goal was to stay in the Chicago area, so that is an obvious plus. I also could not find their 2009 match list on their site or on SDN (it isn't in the 2009 match list thread). Does anyone have that information? Pretty much everything I am finding about RFU brings up its probation status or its low ranking.....I need something positive to hear about this school! Thanks for your help guys 🙂

This is a great opportunity for you to go to (shameless plug even though I had nothing to do with its creation) THE NEW INTERVIEW FEEDBACK! (click up top). The way it's arranged will allow you to find out instantly what about 200 people thought were the "pros" of RFU as well as the cons, and how they generally felt about the area.

Alternatively, do an SDN search in the pre-allo forums (only, else you'll get a lot of useless information) for "RFU" or something similar, and view the threads that say stuff like "RFU versus <insert school here>". These threads will give you infoirmation on why you may want to choose RFU over <insert school here>.

So if you legitimately struggled with finding information on RFU then do the above and you'll be fine. On the other hand, if you are sitting here expecting someone to spoonfeed you information that can be found elsewhere that is extremely lazy. (I will give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume the first 🙂 so best of luck!)

Match results are in the booklet they'll give you--page 6 to 9. If you really want it before you go to your interview, PM me and I'll scan and email it to you. It doesn't exactly mean a whole lot though.

Because if you go there, you get an MD degree. That's good enough for me...

I wasn't trying to be lazy at all and I have searched many of the School X vs. RFU threads but most say "RFU has great match lists, well regarded in the area, good community feel" etc etc. I am looking for some specific answers such as....what is the testing schedule like? For example, at Midwestern, they have tests twice a week at 7:30 am and have class 8-5 everyday. I wanted to know what RFU's testing and class schedules are like. Also, are rotations ONLY in downtown Chicago and NOT in suburbs near and far? Is the school pretty competitive or are students laid back?

Thanks to anyone that can help me out with those specific questions!

from my sources (friends there/stuff from interview), they have tests every Monday morning, and I think second semester they switch to generally every other Monday. I don't remember class schedules, but I think they mostly have afternoons free? They list their major teaching hospitals as ones in Oak Lawn (southern), Advocate Lutheran (northish), Cook County, Mount Sinai (west of downtown), VA (right by school)...they list a bunch more too, but those are the ones that list locations as well. I'm too lazy to look up where the other ones are, but I think they're mostly clustered in actual Chicago, vs. Chicagoland

Here are links to our M1 schedules for each term. 1 2 3

As you can see, we generally have lecture from 9-12. Several afternoons/week are taken up by labs and small group activities. Attendance is mandatory for some labs and small group stuff, but not for lectures, almost all of which are recorded and posted online. Exams are every week for the first semester and every 2 weeks after that. There are no big cumulative exam weeks.

Rotations are all over the Chicagoland area. The packet which you'll get at the interview includes a little map showing all the clinical sites.

I am currently a freshman Biomedical Engineering (BME) major. My university currently has a engineering --> MD/PhD program with Rosland Franklin University. The deadline for the program app is durring my sophomore year. I have some questions about the program before finalizing my Medical Program chioces. The program that I am considering to apply for is the MD/PhD program in medicine (track I & II). If anyone is in the program or has experience at CMS, I would apreciate the information.

*note* I have checked online and the website does not offer updated information about specifics, I have also emailed admissions office at RFU-CMS, but no responses yet.

1. How many weeks is the phase I, of the program? Is that the equivalent of first two years of academic medical classes?

2. would it be a better idea to apply track II , are both tracks I and II the same amount of time?

3. How many total years to graduate with a Medical degree? how many years to graduate with both a Medical degree and Ph.D.?

4. What type of grading system is used? a pass/fail or letter grades?

5. Is the Medical school curriculum more lecture based, problem solving based, or both?

6. In terms of research, does the university partner with Hospitals or other Universities?

Thank you,
Soney Med
