It seems to me that they are trying to time the reception of the snail-mail acceptances with their release of the rejection/waitlist emails. I would think that acceptees who live in Durham will receive their acceptances tomorrow, so if they're timing it according to that, I would expect everything else to go out tomorrow. If they're timing it for more distant places, then it should go out Saturday (probably when they will get to California). My guess is that everything will be released tomorrow, though, since they probably place more importance on their undergraduates receiving news. Also, didn't someone say that they would also send out emails inviting acceptees to second-look? So that, effectively, everyone finds out at the same time (and fear of losing your letter in the mail is unwarranted)?
yes, i'm serious
how did you find out? did they tell u during the interviews?
Well, it's this really cool formula.
31.5% interview
14.8% EC's
25.4% GPA
30.3% MCAT
As you can see, the interview is very important.
Interview is scored on a 0-10 scale for
Personality
Compassion
Confidence
Personal Appearance
Quality of Responses
Degree of Preparation
General Impression
This is then scaled to 100 points (multiplied by 10/7)
EC's are 5 groups of activities that are scored out of 10
Leadership
Research
Medical Exposure
Volunteering
Other (music, sports etc)
This score is doubled to be out of 100
GPA is scaled from 4.0 to a 100 point scale (multiplied by 25)
MCAT +writing score is out of 50 by making the letter grade a score out of 5. This is multiplied by 2 to get a score out of 100
Then the percentages above are applied and they find a cutoff line using excel or some other mathematical software.
The wait is usually due to the fact that EC's and interviews are difficult to score.
You were totally selling it until those percentages added to 102%, not 100%. Sad. Besides, the GPA counts 5% MORE than the MCAT in the real formula.
If we're gonna be on here, we might as well be entertained, right? What else is Youtube for if not killing time.

31.5% haha followed by that monster post... this tread is getting heated.. that mixed with the fact that a few of us are on here at 3am says we really need to just hear already!
can that be true? no one on SDN has received any emails...?
glitch in the system perhaps?

I just called the Office of Admissions. They said that all letters of acceptance were mailed yesterday by standard USPS. All notifications of denials and waitlists were emailed earlier today.
I asked her to confirm that if I have not yet received an email does that mean I should be expecting an letter in the mail. She said yes.
SO, if you don't have anything in your inbox, look forward to checking your mail in the next couple of days...
Yeah...I'd concur with the latter.
Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if there is a delay from when Duke sends the emails to when its recipients get them consider that the interview invites often came during very weird times (mine was early morning on a Saturday).
hahaha "in other news, duke med this year decided to accept everyone"

Could somebody call and confirm this? LET? Shemarty?
its the truth. call them yourself 🙂 this is to stressful to screw around with
Haha, I would've but I'm at a meeting.
What year were you at Stanford? I saw your post on the Stanford thread.
I didn't believe it either, but it's true. I just called and said "I'm trying to find out when and how we would be notified about acceptances" and a very friendly woman replied "Acceptances have been mailed out. Rejections and waitlists have been emailed out." I said "HAVE BEEN??" and she said "yes, have been sent."well for the sake of everyone's sanity on this forum, i wish someone who people know would get brave and call. they were actually very nice about it! though i suppose thinking this is a joke would probably be less stressful, since you wouldn't be sure decisions have been made and sent.
in any case, good luck everyone!
