Hey guys I just finished interviewing there. Great school, you will get a lot of top-tier like opportunites and it really is fantastic.

Just wnated to share about the interview for those interviewing later on - it seems that it is jsut another piece of the puzzle because they try to capture everything that can't be caught "on paper". That's why they do it blind - its not about whats on the application its about what's not. It is another piece of the puzzle.

I assume that it comes down to your application/stats and everything at the end, but that is just my guess. Also I don't know how much the student interview is worth but maybe someone can comment on that!

My interview was less than 20 mins but more than 15 but I was doing at least 90% of the talking.

I sent an in the area email and this was the response I got:

"Your application is complete and under review. The review process can take some time.
We will note your visit to the DC area in your application however, each year, many files are reviewed and placed on hold for re-review at a later date. We do interview from September through March.

Thank you for your interest in The George Washington University Medical School."

Anyone else get a different response after an in the area email?

I called them and received the same info over the phone. Does anyone know if GW interviews a lot of people on hold? I would really like a chance at this school.

Hey are there any other 9/30 interviewees who got accepted? I got in and I'm super excited about it, and I'm wondering if any of the people on this board are people who I interviewed with.

I interviewed on 10/23 and I am also hoping for an acceptance. I love GW and it's definitely my top 3 choices. Did your acceptance come by email/or snail mail?

Email first and it said in the email that i'd be getting snail mail, which came about a week later

Hey guys, to send out thank you emails, do we mail the [email protected]?

and what are we supposed to put in the Subject field? attn: (interviewer name) thank you note from AAMC ID 12345678?

do we know how much student interviews are worth?!

Thanks

I have been under review since 8/22 - is anyone else in the same situation? If I don't hear anything by the end of the week I was planning to call or email. Has anyone had any success with either approach?

Thanks!

Did anyone get the snail-mail before the 6 weeks? is it common to get it before 6 weeks? I don't think I can wait that long 😱

also, how early to Med students go into the student run clinic? I imagine you need to be at least in your third or fourth year.

1. I sent a thank you email directly to my interviewer's email address.
2. Unsure about the student interview...I felt I completely bombed mine (first interview of the cycle for me, and I was very nervous..and it showed)...but nonetheless was granted an acceptance...so don't worry too much over it.

Hope this helps!

I've been complete here since 8/26. My online status still says "no decision has been reached..." Has anyone called the admissions office re: interview invites with any success?

Could any current GW students tell me about what sort of housing is available? It seems like it is outrageously expensive to live close to campus, where do most students end up living?

Hola everyone. Is anyone else interviewing on December 2? I'll be getting into DC on November 30 and will be crashing with some friends until December 4. It would be pretty coo to meet up with some of you and check out the city. Feel free to PM me. Take care.

Paz,
Alex

I just sent them an email. They said I'm still under review. And the waiting continues...

Anyone interviewing on Nov. 21??????? Lemme know!!

Well I'm not a current student but I interviewed there and they had a long presentation on housing and I talked to the current students. Basically, Foggy Bottom (where GW is) is ridiculously expensive. Most people either live in Virginia (a short 5-10 minute metro ride away) or deeper in DC in areas like Dupont.

did you have "under review" message before getting no decision message? Did anybody get invite without going thru no decision message? Does GW send post-rejections or is it one of the schools that utilize "silent" rejection until march??

Actually my status is "under review." I don't know why I wrote "no decision" in my previous post.

Hola everyone. I got an invite on Halloween to interview on December 2. I'm so stoked!!!!!!!!!!!!! My status changed yesterday to the following:

"Your application is complete and under review by the committee. Correspondence concerning the status of your application will be emailed to you shortly."

And then I received the email invite in the afternoon the following day. I was complete recently (mid-October I'd say). I wasn't expecting this quick of a turnaround. Best of luck to all and keep your heads up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paz,
Alex

I have the same status "Your application is complete and under review by the committee. Correspondence concerning the status of your application will be emailed to you shortly."

Hopefully I'll also get an interview invite. I will be super excited!! Fingers crossed....

Is anyone interviewing on Dec 11th?

I just got the invite and could not be happier. This is a dream school for me and my first
invite.

BTW: I was on HOLD since aug/early sept

I am completely stoked to be interviewing this coming Friday and have been researching the school all day. Boy this sure put a damper on things though....:

$70k a year!!!! Holy smokes... that price tag makes me wanna cry:scared:

Congratulations mbe36!!! Did your status by any chance indicate they were going to email you shortly? Mine says I'm going to emailed but I'm yet to receive anything. Would really like to go to GW.. Thanks!!

I came home from work and realized I got an invite!!!

December 18th? Anyone?

Big-ups to reapplicants! 👍

Hopefully I actually get in this time around though...

This is my first invite and definitely my top choice.

Let me know if you're gonna be at GWs on the 18th.

Thanks! I was in the middle of engineering process design when my phone buzzed. I checked the new email message and BAM--my first acceptance! Haha I left class to call my mom I was so thrilled. :soexcited:

I interviewed Sept. 30th, so it took them nearly 7 weeks before they notified me.

I really didn't think I was going to get it: they only accept 25% of their interviewees.

congrats man! anyone think i have a shot at this school with my stats? im an international, and GWU is my first choice. i fell in love with DC (its a beautiful city built on a rolling landscape) and the school is wonderful. im a nervous wreck that ive got nill chance. i felt my interviews went ok. my student interview was pretty cool, and my faculty interviewer was very receptive. i dunno, this whole process is emotionally stressful. 😕

They took you off the hold list?!?! Apparently I just got put on the hold list in the last week... did you do anything to sway them to interview you? PM me if you have any good advice... I want to go to GW so bad!

My status has claimed they would be emailing me for over a week now. Getting impatient, I gave them a call today. I was told they would be emailing me soon. Hoping email = interview invite.

for DC based schools like GW, does anyone know if they consider MD/VA residents as instate?

They're private schools, so they have no in-state preference, either in tuition or admissions.

Hey guys I have a question, Does anyone know when the admissions committee meets every month? I need to know how much time I have to send some papers in as an int. applicant.

Uh, I've had that message since July.

Maybe you should give them a call.. I got my invite today.... God is so good... I am happy beyond words. I called them again today (after calling on Friday)... I'm interviewing December 18th. I was complete Sep 16th by the way.

I got accepted last week after interviewing in early October. I am extremely excited, and will almost definitely be attending next fall. I considered not even applying to GW because the total # of applicants last year was so high. Maybe I will see some of you guys next year!

Cheers 🙂

congrats mouse! I hope some of your luck rubs off on me. I just got back from my interview a few days ago & I'd really like an acceptance from GW... the waiting begins

bump to anyone having any idea when the adcomm meets/ how frequently?

For those accepted, did you get a request for update of activities from May 2008-present? Is this a good sign? I just got an e-mail, had a mild seizure from the dread, and am now wondering how much information I should give.

That is a good thing- but not a gurantee.

I got that email last week (interviewed 10/17) and I sent them a couple of paragraphs about what I've been doing since graduation last spring. I just tried to keep the email concise and to the point. I don't think they're looking for too much beyond a summary.

Is this a good thing? I got the same thing last week and sent them a paragraph. I hope it works out for us.

Anyone know when GW starts pulling off the waitlist? Or, what the numbers from previous years are for peoples chances off the waitlist? It's still one of my top choices, and I really want to get in here. I already sent a letter of interest. Thanks!

So whats this deal about the information update email? I graduated in May 2008, so I figure they would want similar info from me (interviewed on 10/7), but have had no such email.

Anyone think I should go ahead and send this in? I'm seven weeks out from my interview and they said they should have a decision in 6-8 weeks. Is it worth it?

Regarding the informational update e-mail from GW: I am a non-traditional applicant who received one of these e-mails, and I really think it is more to fill in gaps in my application timeline. For example, I graduated from college in May 2005, and didn't start my current job until January 2006 (there was a gap in the timeline of my ECs on AMCAS... I was finishing my thesis, working 3 part time jobs and looking for work - nothing AMCAS-worthy). I also am currently finishing my last pre-req (physics) this semester.

The e-mail I received from GW (which surprised me - having already interviewed and having never heard about this sort of request) was very specific:

"Thank you for your continued interest in The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. We would appreciate submission of the items listed below in order to continue the processing of your application.
Please submit the following as soon as possible to [email protected] (unless otherwise noted):

* Information regarding your Professional, Personal, or Academic Experiences from 5/2005 until 1/2006

* You listed (physic course) as In Progress on your secondary application. Once you complete this course, please have an official transcript sent to the address below.

Thank you for your cooperation."

It is fairly clear on my AMCAS what I am doing right now (3 ECs state an end date of June 2009). So - I really think this is more about filling in gaps than it is about requesting current information on all of the most promising people... I am not convinced that this means we've made it to a next cut. In fact - if the info they requested from me is a means of helping them decide on me... I am not so sure that what I had to say was so very fascinating that it will help provide me with any sort of boost in this process.

There you go - my 2 cents, for what it's worth! 🙂
