Thanks futurdoc. It is just frustrating with that suspense.

Dear m3dhop3ful:

The Committee on Admissions is pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an alternate for the first year class of the program leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree entering in August 2009. A final decision has yet to be made regarding an acceptance.

You should be very proud as you recognize that your selection as an alternate has been made from a large group of very talented applicants. Moreover, many alternates are ultimately offered acceptance to this program.

Um, should I really be as happy as they are making it out to be? isn't this just a waitlist?

got that message too
by the looks of it people from previous years dont have much luck once on the alternate list

apparently 70% of the class was filled via alt list 2 years ago, but last year only 5 people.

Do they reject anyone post interview?

Anyone know if the interviewers get to see our AMCAS right after the interview? I recently had mine and noticed that both my interviewers were required to fill out a summary sheet at the end of our talk, which would be subsequently forwarded to the committee. In that case, it would be a truly "blind" interview.

Yeah, they definitely do. In 6-8 weeks (or possibly longer, so it seems), you'll get an accept/reject/deny email.

The wait to hear back post-interview is excruciating!!!!! Interviewed Nov. 21st...seems like ages ago 👎

I interviewed that same day. We probably have a few more weeks to wait, seeing as how a few October people still haven't received their final results. 🙁

anyone hear for an interview recently?

Looks Like I'm an alternate. I hope I get off the wait list. Does anyone know what percentage of students are accepted off the wait list at GW? 😳

Don't give up hope buddy, there is still many months left.

Hmm... i wonder why i haven't heard any news yet... ? The anxiety/worry is giving me an ulcer, haha. yikes.

recently I got this status message on my account:

Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no final decision has been made and the Admissions Committee has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date. If we require any further documentation or if your status changes, we will contact you immediately. We do sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. Thank you for your patience.

Can anyone shed light on this? Is this a nice way of saying rejection?

As of 35 minutes ago, I've been accepted into George Washington University's Class of 2013!

Good luck to the rest of you!

did anyone manage to get off their hold and get an interview? If so, did you send them anything, an update/loi?

It's been 8+ weeks for me and i still haven't heard back from GW. Ugh... i feel an ulcer forming in the dark and bottomless pit that is my stomach.

Good luck man! Our school lists look pretty similar, wonder if we'll cross paths sometime haha. Working at Children's Natl Med Center should at least give you some leverage, they were in the top 10 pediatrics hospital in the US last year. This is such a crazy process...

Yeah I was work in the Trauma & Burn Service and we went through hell trying to get ready for the ACS review to verify our Level 1 trauma status.

I've been complete since July and am still on hold.....this sucks. 🙁

By this time last year they had rejected me...maybe there's hope this time around? Has anybody had any luck in getting them to accept update letters?

Thank you.

i called about update letters. i was told by the admissions staff that while there is no guarantee that they will read it, i should send one along anyway. so i did. cant hurt to send it.

For those of you feeling despondent about no interviews, I just got an interview invite today for 2/5. They recived my application 1/5.

No I'm not joking, I'm one of those idiots that ends up doing everything at the last minute. So they are still reviewing and inviting. I think they interview till April?

Wow, that's incredible Ogenki! Congrats.

If you would not mind sharing, what are your critical statistics (GPA, MCAT) and where are you from?

Thank you for your time, and good luck.

I'm from California. I'd rather not go into specifics in case Administrators actually read this but I have an awesome MCAT and pretty good GPA from a nationally known university in California.

I hope I'm a good candidate even though the rest of my app might not be so hot but I'm also worried GWU might glance at the scores and think I'm one of those people who think they're 'overqualified' and using GW as a backup. My biggest hope is that I got the interview right away because my enthusiasm and interest in going to GWU showed through in the essay question. GWU's my first choice, I love the medical school.

If they read my app, it means they read late submitters. It also means that they shouldn't have many apps left to review, so pre-interview holds should be getting more invites soon. So procrastinators like me and people waiting for invites shouldn't worry so much that they've been rejected already.

I only said something because I think i was developing an ulcer this week now that I'm done applying and started reading this board, which has alot of negativity. For example, posts claiming people shouldn't bother applying to medical school after October at the latest, July if they don't want to interview for waitlists, and other disingenous pied-piper attempts. (Yes I know it can hurt your chances due to rolling admissions, especially for some schools that fill out their classes quickly. I also know this isn't the only interview invite I got today. And why the hell would people withdraw because GW kept you on hold until now unless they didn't want to go to the school in the first place.)

congrats on your interview. if GW is your first choice i would suggest writing an LOIntent after your inteview. look it up on this forum

I received the information request a little over three weeks before I was accepted.

Thank you, BambiMD. I am just about 3-4 weeks away from decision time, as well. I will kepp an eye out.

your argument is only sound for ppl with very high #s like yourself. schools leave interview spots open for later in the year for those late applicants with crazy scores. if you had average #s, you want not be receiving all these invites. you have high #s, though, so good luck!

Good point. I applied later last cycle and did not have this type of response.

No problem. Good luck!
Thanks:xf:

I never received any kind of info. request let alone correspondance after my interview mbe36 and I was accepted. So don't read too much into it if you haven't received one. However, I did submit a letter of interest stating why I liked the school and why I would be a good fit. I would recommend writing a letter if you haven't already done so

any recent gwu interview invites? esp. off the infamous "hold" status?

i'm getting very antsy.... any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the info and congrats, TrojanMD!

I interviewed on Dec 18th, and I also hope to join the party.

I had a good feeling after my physician interview, so hopefully I'll find out soon enough. If people who interviewed on 11/21 just found out, that means it's going to be approximately 8 weeks before I find out.

It's been barely four weeks for me, and I'm itching to find out if I got in.

Haha at you are not alone.

Thanks!! Did you not hear back yet????
They asked for more info about my post-grad activities so I'm still waiting for a decision... but hopefully soon! Congrats again I know you really liked GW.

I got asked to send in a graduate letter of good standing from my school's registrar's office a couple weeks ago, I talked to a lady on the phone at GW and she said that it doesn't effect the adcom's decision or when they meet to review my application, it will just keep an acceptance pending (the letter of good standing) if I were to get accepted. Anyone else get asked for one of these?
