Does anyone know the protocol for accepting an offer off the alternate list? Do we get a certain amount of time before we have to decide if we want to go there? Basically, if I get accepted, financial aid will play a big role in whether or not I attend, so can we wait until we get the financial aid offer (and hold a spot at another school) before we accept?

Yeah, a school which costs as much as GW, I'll probably just reapply next cycle and work for the year at the hospital or in research.

Do those accepted from the AL have all the same financial aid available to them as everyone else? Or does being accepted that late in the game make it difficult to apply and get fin aid?

I'm just curious. Is the alternate list the same as the waitlist? Have applicants been WAITLISTED as opposed to selected as an alternate? From reading, various people seem to have used waitlist and alternate list interchangeably, but are we sure that they are the same thing?

yeah, for GW, alternate list = wait list

Hi everyone- just letting you know that I withdrew from the AL after receiving that long email. I hope it goes to a very deserving and anxiously waiting applicant 🙂

Hey Everyone,

Has anyone heard anything new/interesting?

Help me choose - got into GW and Tulane. Both are the same high cost. Leaning towards Tulane because I liked it better. Also, Tulane stats are a bit better. Any reason I should go with GW. Thanks.

nope, i was actually wondering the same thing and about to bump this thread. they appear to have been quite silent recently

go to tulane 😀 , free up a spot for us! haha jk. good luck w/ your decision

I'm kinda new to SND so I'm tots sorry if I ask something that was already said. I'm really not an online poster, but I really wanted to ask a question.

So I read the bits and pieces about GW being on probation and it seems like they are the only school in the US that is on probation. I was wondering if they were the only school that has ever been on probation? What does probation actually mean if I attend?

I dunno, I interviewed in February and got waitlisted here. The school seems nice, but this probation thing seems really weird.

Any thoughts?

This is not the first med school to be on probation in the last few years. A few others that come to mind are SUNY Buffalo and Jefferson if I am not mistaken. And both schools made changes for the better of its students. I think because GW is a big name, they are just getting more attention. But if anyone feels uncomfortable, then you should withdraw and open spots for people who are interested in attending.😛

I just withdrew my GW acceptance. Hope one of you get my spot! Best of luck to everyone!

A very big thank you to all the people that withdrew from GW now rather than waiting until the last possible moment 👍.
For the rest of us... IT'S MAY!!! AHHHHHHHHHH :scared:

Did GW send anyone else here a T-shirt?

does anyone know how many people are still on the waitlist?

a RIDICULOUS number of people are on the wait list...

considering they got 14,000 applicants this year... ~1000 interviews

they barely rejected anyone, i think it's only been word of mouth so far on SDN that someone got a GW rejection post interview, so my guess is that the wait list is something in the 700's range in size

I was just hoping that people either 1. did not want to stay on the waitlist or 2. took a seat at another school. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this significantly decreased the number of people on the waitlist.

Has anyone heard anything from GW lately? Emails and such? Good luck to all!

I got an email from the financial aid office earlier today... It pretty much reminds me that I am on the alternate list and tells me to apply for financial aid if I haven't done so all ready.

I'm assuming that everyone on the alternate list got this email?

yeah i got it

So I was pursuing other school-specific threads here on SDN and saw that some schools have some serious waitlist movement prior to the May 15th deadline. Has anyone heard of any movement/know how GW does it?

It seems like GW might start their calling on May 15th and go down the list, while others schools have already started.

anyone know anything? This wait is agonizing... 🙁

:luck::luck::luck:

I spoke with admissions a few weeks ago and they did not expect movement until May 15th (maybe the following Monday). Maybe you should give them a ring and see if there are any updates.

Didn't you love the part where it said, "Assume you're not getting financial aid from GW unless you hear otherwise?" I knew they didn't give out much, but it was surprising that they were so upfront about it.

I withdrew my acceptance the third week in April guys. So that's one more spot. I really hope of ya'll gets it! GOOD LUCK! Hang in there. 🙂

Awww thanks man. Good luck wherever you chose to go.

Btw... i just realized there are 3 (possibly more) funkymonkies posting on SDN, haha cool!

Withdrew from GW Monday. Got the confirmation Tuesday. Hope you get in. Send GW a letter showing your eagerness. It helps.

This might be a stupid question but how do we go about withdrawing? I'm gunna be going somewhere else so I have to withdraw from GW. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist and if someone can let me know what I should do let me know!

Enroh,

I would suggest putting it in writing via e-mail. Also, follow up with a call to confirm. I suggest this because we are getting very close to May 15th and you want to make sure this goes through to avoid any trouble/deposit loss.

Hey Enroh,

First e-mail them and wait for a confirmation e-mail. Then check your status page to make sure you've been withdrawn. If it hasn't changed CALL.

I withdrew from the AL in December and got a confirmation email. Then got an email a few weeks ago saying I was still on it. I had to withdraw a second time and I called. Since we are so close to the deadline, I wouldn't take any chances.

Just withdrew from GW--hope one of you guys waiting for a spot gets some good news.

Hey everyone,

Is there anyone out there who has accepted a spot at GW and would care to comment on what kind of financial aid package they received (generous, not-so-generous, or specifics if you feel comfortable)?

I know GW is known for not giving out very much institutional aid, but I just wanted to see if thats true for everyone. Without parental consideration, my FAFSA EFC is 0... so I'm holding out on the waitlist just in case GW decides to accept me, but could I expect to get decent financial aid?

Thanks to anyone who replies!😀

It's to my knowledge that unless you have special circumstances that allow you to qualify for scholarships (related to your background, etc), financial aid = LOANS, loans, loans. :scared:

I got institutional aid and they said the amount of aid is likely to be 90% scholarship and 10% a loan. Kind of weird. Either way- I am a normal student with no crazy background circumstances and I got some scholarship. PM me with questions.

do you have very impressive numbers? maybe it's merit based, at any rate, congrats!

Has anyone been accepted off the waitlist yet, or does most of the movement start after the 15th?

And the Ides of May are upon us....good luck to those of us awaiting a phone call.

previous years indicate a phone call

looks like nobody heard today...My guess is they wont call anyone over the weekend, right? So for those lucky few, another weekend of waiting.

soooo anyone heard anything yet?

omg stop updating this thread my heart's like skipping beats thinking someone updated beacuse they got in off the waitlist haha

I was accepted off the alternate list on Thursday morning! I loved GW when I interviewed and was completely elated when the Dean called me right after I got out of bed! Much better way of waking up than a cup of coffee! This is totally a dream come true and I can't wait to move to DC. I wish nothing but the best for everyone else still waiting.
