so according to the posts here every1 small pooled will receive interviews rite? and i was completed around the second week of sept, will that put me in a bad spot??

According to the e-mail I got, it said they rank the pool based on strength of application and completion date. You probably aren't in that bad of a spot though, look at post #163 on this thread.

Yeah, I was told to wait 8 weeks and that they didn't start reviewing since I was complete so maybe 1 or 2 weeks of hope left. I was told to wait 8 weeks at one school and at the 8th week, I received an invite. So there is still hope!

I am at Marquette, and we just had the Director of Admissions from MCW come in to talk about the application process.

Their very first interviews begin tomorrow. I will paraphrase what he said, and I just want to say that this is from memory and my own personal paraphrasing. All interviews are done every other Friday. Apparently interview invitations are sent out on Thursdays, 2 weeks before the interview date.

The small pool is ranked on the basis of "strength of credentials" and date of completion. Last year, the pool had approximately 1700 students. 600 were given interviews. The interview invitations are sent out to batches of students using the ranking system. They move on down the line. If you are interviewing for a spot in the class, you are told that. If spots are running low, you are told that. Finally, if you are interviewing for an alternate spot, you are told that.

Is that just for IS people? 2 weeks to plan a cross-country flight seems awfully soon.

Nobody questioned him on that and he did not elaborate. I did not press the issue because I live in the area.

I would certainly hope that's not the case.

My status page has been the same since 7/14. No change after the small pool notification so I think that MCW's status page is essentially useless after the application is marked as complete.

Apparently not. August 20th is definitely not 2 weeks before, nor is it a Thursday.

Apparently 10/3 is the first interview though. I said "tomorrow" but I really meant Friday. Sorry, days are running together for me.

No, I have not received the small pool email...I haven't heard anything from them. I think I might email them to see what the status of my application is.

i posted earlier in this thread, but i will say it again. I am pretty sure you are 99.9% correct on this, but just from personal experience (last year) I did not receive the smaller pool email but I received an interview (maybe they forgot to send the email to me or it just got lost in cyberspace😕)

This may be because you were invited before the "small pool" even existed. The first round of small pool notifications didnt come out till Sept. if Im correct. I think that from now on, the small pool must be treaded before an interview invite. (maybe just not back in Aug)

The director of admissions made it clear that they will NOT skip you in front of other applicants because you are in the area during a specific time.

That's dubious - people like steako were complete on 9/2 and have already heard news. And August 1st (your completion date) was over 8 weeks ago.

i agree that their response didn't make any sense, but that is what they sent me. i'll give them the benefit of the doubt and give them 5-6 weeks from when the committee began reviewing applications. in that case, i still should be hearing within a week. we shall see.

FYI, last year I received my interview invite after the small group thing was established. But that was last year, maybe it's different this year.

for those of you with interviews, have you been able to find a low cost way of traveling to Wisconsin? i can take the train there for $50 but can't find a way to get back home - unless i want to spend the night in the chicago train station or pay $400 for a one way flight back to michigan. 🙁

Check Greyhound, I think they have a bus that leaves around midnight headed back towards Michigan. Should only be $50 or $60

So if I am submitting my secondary this week due to a letter writer being out of the country unexpectedly, do I have any chance of getting in? Seems like applying a little late hurts a lot here. I have a 3.7 GPA and 3.8 science GPA, 32 Q MCAT, a masters in physics and WI resident. Could some of my stats maybe get me an interview for a spot in the school instead of the wait list?

just curious- does anyone know if having a parent who graduated from a med school has any bearing on your chances of acceptance at that school? i know it can for undergrad but haven't heard any such evidence for med school. im very interested in MCW and my dad went there. however, my family has since moved to MA.

If I get accepted at UW-Madison before an invite at MCW, I'm just gonna withdraw so another potential interviewee can have my spot.
