@Talbo,

You and I have very similar stats so I'm sure you'll be fine. I was complete early Sept. and got my invite a week ago. So be patient. I'm also Canadian so it just goes to show that there will likely be more seats for you guys too.

Yeah, NYU is my first choice for american schools!

I just got the "Final Decision Pending" status page pre-interview.

With the exception of QTlyss, it generally does not look to be a good sign.

i've been complete since 8/8... and my status still says under review, does that mean i am owned? i would really like to go to nyu =(

Your chances are better than those who have the "Final Decision pending" message. Be glad for the time being!

Does anyone have the US NEWS stats for NYU?

Hey guys there is still hope, received an invite today and I am int (cdn)
Complete sept 12th

for those interested in US news the acceptance post interview is slightly less than 50%.

How are acceptances done? How long do we hear back after the interview? approximately? or are all decisions mailed out in march?

Whats wrong with the final decision pending message? I have that. IS that only bad if you have not interviewed? I dont get it.

Basically if you have that message and you haven't interviewed, that probably means they decided to reject you.

From QTLyss on previous post: "hey guys my status said final decision pending too... and I got an invite today =) have faith! don't rush to conclusions. SDN makes us neurotic just be patient."

Please don't jump to conclusions. We're already neurotic as is in regards to the cryptic "final decision pending" message. lol

Hey Guys,

So I just called the admissions office and asked about the "Final Decision Pending" status. The lady on the phone told me that it DOES NOT mean you were rejected. It means your application was sent to the admissions committee for evaluation. If a decision is made to offer you an interview, you should hear back from NYU within (and I quote) "a couple weeks to a month" after first seeing the "final decision pending" status. Otherwise, you can assume a rejection and will be notified on March 3rd.

Hope that helps!

I've had "final decision pending" for at least a month now, so I'm assuming rejection for myself.

Hey so I have the option of choosing a date at the very beginning of december or somewhere close to the middle.

If I choose the beginning of december, will I hear back before christmas? I was thinking of going early at the expense of my exams solely for the possibility of hearing good news early. I am just wondering if offers are sent out fast (like Case, Mt. Sinai) or do they take their sweet time.

I think acceptances are notified on March 1st.

I think acceptances are notified on March 1st.

Everyone will be notified BY March 1st. They will start accepting people in December-ish. So it is a benefit to interview earlier than later.

That time frame would be awfully quick though. I would interview there as early as possible, but don't expect to get a response before X-mas. They told us to expect something possibly in January, and I just interviewed 11/17. I expect something late winter/early spring. If you are interested, I posted interview feedback for this school.

Just got an interview offer today! My status had been changed to "final decision pending" and I was complete over 3 months ago....so never fear! there is hope!

Well I stand corrected. I take back what I said earlier on this page. Cmon, NYU, send me an invite please! 😍

Thank you for getting this interview so everyone can stop feeling sorry for themselves. Also, congrats!

Congrats to all interviewees. It seems that 50% of us with really be accepted. That's awesome - but my question is: out of all of those people who are accepted, is there really that many people who would go elsewhere? Is there something wrong with NYU intrinsically? From what I heard, it's a DAMN good school. Please explain this to my feeble mind.

@Bradstein, love the Fallout reference with your avatar... playing F3 right now. Heh... heh... and not studying.

Awesome, thanks! I've been wondering when someone on here would get it. I'll have to PM you more on this subject...

I think someone at NYU said that the number of accepted will be significantly less than 50% this year (& might have been for 2008). They said that it was that high because of switching over to non-rolling & ppl having made decisions already. I think now they are going to be putting more ppl on the waitlist and feeding off of that, so its more likely much less than 50% interviewed will be accepted

I think so too, I don't know what you mean by significantly less.
They put more people on the waitlist last year and fed off that, they can't send more offers than the number of seats so the only thing that CAN change is the number of people on the waitlist, so I don't get what you mean by the last part.

They were non-rolling last year and non-rolling this year. If they start selecting people by around January then things might be better but not entirely. Most people that get into NYU may have gotten into 'better' schools (Mt. Sinai, vandy, case) at that point and may just decline.

we need to see if someone has 2007-2008 MSAR and look up the numbers for NYU
and does anyone know what the average mcat and gpa really is? the site says 32 but MSAR says 11.2 x 3.

if i understood correctly they are putting more people on waitlist and accepting less people out right. That would prob result in people not really interested in NYU to drop off the list & increase their chances of offering a seat to someone that is actually interested in NYU, but it's all hypothetical. The % acceptance doesn't include people put on the waitlist, only people accepted off of it.

Ohhhh you are right. People ahead of you on the waitlist that drop out are not included. So then according to that, the actual chances will still be really high, but just high on paper, is that not correct?

QTLyss, did they tell you the school's average stats?

i hope so! schools are so obsessive about their selectivity numbers. The more selective they are, the more competitive they look so yeah. I think being in NYC near so many schools is hurting them.

No, they didn't tell me their average stats. I might have it in my folder or something but I'm too lazy to find it right now.

I think finding data from the USnews 2 years ago or from MSAR might help out a whole lot. We'll have to see how things pan out.

Data from three years ago:

911 interviewed
467 accepted
160 enrolled

Shows that not much has changed..weird.

I've been "complete and under review" since 8/25 but I got my interview invite today!!!!!

But does anyone know how generous they are with scheduling interviews outside the range they gave you?? This is awful timing in that I've already sheduled a flight to get to NY on 11/24 and fly back on 11/26 because I had another interview set for NYMC on 11/25. It would be *perfect* if I could schedule this one for 11/26, but at this point, I'm not so sure since that's coming up pretty soon. The dates they gave me were Dec 1 to Dec 15. Any ideas??

congrats! justapremed
does anyone know how often adcom meet? and if so when?
thnx much 🙂

I'm a first year at NYU med. I haven't been on SDN since I started med school. I have a test on Monday, but I was kindda bored with biochem so I decided to check what's going on here. If you have any questions, let me know. I read poeople asking about their average GPA & mcat. I beleive the average MCAT for our entering class was 32, and the average GPA was aound about 3.8 (I think it might have been 3.77). If you have any questions let me know, I would be more than glad to answer questions. I've been really happy with NYU. I wish you guys the best of luck.

justapremed, why dont you just gve them a call? they seemed really nice.

Basically if you have that message and you haven't interviewed, that probably means they decided to reject you.

It's people like you that give SDN a bad name. My advisor who happens to be on the national board of med schools says people on SDN will try to create negative energy to stress others out. I really don't believe that Final Decision Pending message means you have been rejected. I think you're getting a little carried away, don't you think? 😀

I'm not trying to "create" anything. Someone earlier posted that they had contacted NYU and the person on the other end said that if you have that message and you don't receive an interview invite in a couple weeks to one month, you can assume a rejection. That's why a lot of people who have that message are anxious because they're hoping to receive an interview before that window closes. Hell, I'm one of those people.

And someone specifically asked why people thought having that message was a bad thing, so I was honest about what the general sentiment is. Obviously, nothing's for certain until you receive that letter in the mail but I was just going on what I'd heard, not trying to "stress people out."

again, I would take that message with a grain of salt. It took some ppl about 2-3 months since marked complete with "application under review" status to receive an interview invite, so I'm not giving up hope yet for those with a "final decision pending".

Also, I don't think anyone from admissions said that it was a rejection. Someone ASSUMED it was after calling the admissions office and not listening carefully.

Someone ELSE called the admissions office and gave us a message with less commentary, in which they said essentially said "it doesn't mean anything."

EDIT:

Per the rejection thread - someone called and found out that the final decision pending thing means they are deciding wether or not to give you an interview. So there you have it.

So I have to ask, if other schools (such as UVM) can take months to decide whether to interview or not, why would NYU be any different? Is it stated somewhere that they decide to interview ASAP? It's either within a month of completion or never? Come on, people.

EDIT 2: Found the original post in the rejection thread:

I just called, they said that the "final decision pending" means that they are reviewing the file and deciding whether or not to give us an interview, so no worries, it doesn't mean they are making a final decision about our acceptance, just about our interview status.

I agree that FDP can't be seen as a rejection set in stone, as evidenced by the interviews received by a few posters here.

Still, the whole thing is very strange--that some people sit as "under review" for months and others get FDP--while both classes apparently receive invites (although the former seem to get a lot more of them then the latter).

I'm assuming that like many schools, they don't always fully (and/or accurately) update the online status system.

Has anyone sent an in the area letter to NYU and gotten a reply? So far I've sent four of them - two schools gave me interviews, one said "we'll add this info to your file" and NYU said...nothing.😕

I'm going to be in the area again and don't know whether or not to send them a second email or call or what. Realistically I probably can't afford to return unless I interview during my second planned in the area time (or I would pony up for it if I get one other specific interview).

Edit: FWIW I was complete 7/29 and my status page still says "Application Complete - Under Review". Seriously, what does this review process entail?

if its any consolation, i was just administravely withdrawn from nyu for loafing on scheduling an interview😎 so, lol, theres another spot for someone...your welcome:laugh:

Yes, I emailed them on a Saturday saying I would be in the area, and they sent me an interview invitation that Monday. The other schools said I was still under review and one said nothing. You can always try and email NYU again, but if they are still reviewing your application, there's probably little you can do. I'm thinking about doing the same thing myself to the school that said nothing since I will be in the area again in a month, but I'm not really expecting anything. Good luck :luck:

Funny question but just in case...what email address did you send that in the area email to? I haven't heard anything since I sent one of those letters and I was just hoping maybe I sent it to the wrong address or something? Wishful thinking. 🙄

I know how it feels. I actually emailed Mt. Sinai many times telling them I'll be in NYC. No response. Gave them a call, apparently I'm still under review. I politely asked them if it was possible to accelerate the process to accommodate my travel schedule via email(twice) and phone. It's getting pretty close to the interview at NYU and it would awesome to hit two birds with one stone.

How many people have here have received an invite after "Final Decision Pending" appeared and how long did it take?

Ok, thanks secretgarden. I used a different email address so maybe it got lost.
