hey all,
I was complete mid-october and interviewed in the last week of november. I was genuinely impressed by the school, students, and location. My tour guides were great and my interviewer was incredibly friendly. I could definitely see how some interviewees might have had shorter interviews though. Since my interview, my status had remained as "Interview Scheduled"... until today. It has changed to:

"Final Decision Pending - All final decisions will be sent on March 3rd."
Hopefully this means something good... i'm so damn nervous.

I just interviewed last week and got the same status change. But we may not have to wait until March. The first batch of acceptances should go out in a week or two. This wave will be followed by batches in January and February as well. That's what they said at the interview at least. :luck:

got that same message minus the interview 🙁

That's funny, after my interview my status almost immediately changed to "Final Decision Pending - All final decisions will be sent on March 3rd."

I wonder if it changes to this once the interviewer submits their info about you... maybe there was some sort of deadline that just passed for them to do this and my guy was just on the ball. For all those whose status changed to this today, how long ago was your interview?

I also got the final decision pending message pre-interview. seems like a rejection to me

Aww after 4 months of being under review, I got the final decision pending message today. Shucks.

Good luck to the rest of you! I hope you nail that interview, greenlight!!!

awww, sorry to hear that jgberken.

i interviewed this week and my status changed.

just called NYU again (im wayy too inpatient) :
me: I interviewed in oct and was wondering if any decisions would be made in december?
lady: yes, some decisions will be sent in decemeber
me: so i guess that would be around next week?
lady: yes, they will (probably - dont remember if she actually said probably or maybe or some other word like that) go out early next week.

New to the network! Offered a NYU interview (1/8/09) and was kinda nervous that it was only 30 minutes. Nice to see people agree that NYU doesn't put much weight on the interview.
Happy Holidays!

That's just their impression. I would say that the interview is rather important for borderline students, while it holds less weight for others. NYU really cares about the numbers, so if you're weak then you really need to stand out at the interview in order for them to overlook the below average numbers.

I've heard several times that NYU cares a lot about numbers. What is the source for this? I'm not being contrary I'm really just curious. My numbers are my strong suit and NYU is one of the 2 schools I've heard nothing from pos or neg 😕

My status switched to FDP this week too jgbergen. there process seems particularly opaque to me, but maybe that's just my bias.

ive never really heard that nyu cares alot about numbers, although i do know that they screen post secondary with cutoffs at mcat 30 and gpa 3.5...though i think overall this yr their big theme is accepting a diverse group of students.

Also, if they use the interview that much, I know I'm screwed because the woman didn't ask me a single question. She just talked about how much she liked the school. My thought is that if the interview is so all important, then there would be stricter guidelines on what to talk about. Maybe not though.

Luck of the draw I guess. They cannot admit every person with a 12-12-12 on their MCAT.

They are less diverse than their neighbors Sinai, Columbia, and Cornell. Anyway I have a source and based on our conversations it seems that numbers are important. However, it sounds like extracurricular and persona (as judged by the interviewer) are just as important.

*That or he found one of my stats to be particularly weak.

Has anyone heard from NYU in December regarding acceptances? I believe admissions had said that they would start sending out some acceptances this month presumably late Dec. From other postings about past years, they were sent out starting the 18th.....

doesn't seem like it. Considering the holidays are upon us, I'm guessing that late Dec batch might become an early Jan batch

I'm still hoping this is accurate ...in theory there are a few work days left this year. :xf:

this was on friday that i called.. so i am guessing tuesday of next week.. that corresponds to about the same time last year.

that stinks a bit i suppose. isnt their msar a 35 and 3.8 and their matriculating a 33 and 3.8?

on their website, the mean mcat is 32, and i think the mean gpa is around 3.7 but im not sure. maybe theyll start sending acceptances out tomorrow...

also, does anyone think it worthwhile to send nyu a loi? i wasnt so sure about it, but if it would tip the scale a bit in my favor, i would definitely do it. has anyone who has written one received a response??

i was going to but decided to wait until the first batch of decisions went out.. if i dont hear from them this week i will definitely be sending an LOI

You and the poster above you mentioned a LOI. Does that mean letter of 'intent' or letter of 'interest' ?

those MCAT numbers can't be true... I had an interview in Nov of this year with 10 9 9 MCAT.

def not true. I know several people, including myself, who interviewed with numbers below that.

i would write soething closer to an LOInterest i think

Congrats! Any email or status page change to go along with it?

Kinda sucks they'd use snail mail when most people are away from their school/current residence.

Agreed, but i interviewed in november, so I probably wouldnt have heard yet anyway (I don't think?). Congrats to the above poster!!

got an email with the good news! 🙂 It says my letter was mailed today. Good luck to everyone waiting :luck:

Me too! Best email ever. Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah/Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all get good news soon too.

congrats to those accepted!! when did you guys interview??

those MCAT numbers can't be true... I had an interview in Nov of this year with 10 9 9 MCAT.

I hate to bring it up, but are you URM? Then again, there are also other factors involved since those MCAT numbers are averages of the school, meaning there WILL be ppl accepted with MCATs lower than that school's avg.

were the emails all sent at the same time? can you post the time?

NYU INTERVIEW!!!!!!!! I had SERIOUSLY begun to give up hope.... this is my FIRST out of state interview (i'm a TX applicant) and only my second AMCAS school interview, so if you're still waiting, don't give up!

(submitted 9/22, complete 10/2)

Interview at NYU below average stats 31 mcat and 3.8 gpa. Anyone know the chances of getting in once at the interview stage. I know my scores are low, but can that be overlooked with a strong interview? Thanks!

just got the email as well (after the snail mail)..email was sent at 2:39 pm

I GOT IN!!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I GOT IN!!!!! i just paid my marticulation deposit ")
