anyone have any luck with an in the area e-mail? i just sent one recently...:xf:

I tried this and they sent me a pretty short message back saying we do not entertain interview requests and that interviews are by invitation only for qualified applicants. I had made it very clear in my letter I was not requesting an interview and only saying I would be in the area for another interview and if I am still being considered....

Anyways, I was a little put off by the response and was rejected a few days later :lame:.

Congratulations!

Damn... guess that means a hold for me.

Hm, so does this mean that they just leave you on hold without an update, or should everyone be expecting an update of some kind? Looks like I'm in the same boat as you!

They'll email you and let you know that you're on hold if you are. They were pretty good about that. I was on hold for four months and they let me knew each month that I was on hold until I got accepted.

keyzersoze and starfish, congratulations! Did you get your acceptance emails this week?

yikes. they didn't get back to me at all. is it so much to ask that admissions offices be communicative?! i mean, i did pay them roughly $100, the least they could do is respond to e-mails...sheesh.

:bang:

Does anyone know when the committee usually meets in a month?

I think they met last week, they already sent out acceptances, but I don't think anyone has gotten holds or rejections yet since that meeting.
We will probably have to wait till after the last interviews on May 11 before they meet again.

Your file is complete and has been sent out for a primary screening. Once your file has been screened, you will either be placed in the pool of applicants who may be invited to interview with CMS; or you will be declined an interview. You will be notified via email and/or mail. Interview season is from September-May.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
CMS Admissions

the waiting continues...:diebanana:

Just out of curiosity, did anyone receive a letter from RF about their podiatric medical school?

They didn't accept me into their medical school, but they said hey I'm fully qualified for podiatrics and I should consider applying. 😛

just out of curiosity, did any of you who were accepted recently receive an e-mail from your interviewer?

I was just wondering which of the forms International students have to fill out since we do not qualify for aid. Does anyone have an idea?

yeah, I received that email too and my decision to med school is still pending. I was wondering if the email meant that I will be rejected soon.

I can't wait anymore days. Can we please have our decisions soon?

Nah, it doesn't mean you're rejected. I got the same email and I have an acceptance. Good luck to you!

okay, interesting. it was a nice "personal" touch...

I was accepted in Feb, and I didn't get one of those. But the dean did write a "personal" note on my acceptance letter in purple marker ("Hi, ____, it was nice to meet you when you visited. I hope you'll join us at CMS"). I assume he did this for everyone else, too.

i interviewed back in january, and i sent a thank you e-mail to my interviewers, and i got an e-mail back from one of them, he was super nice and said im sure wherever you end up you'll be happy and he added if i get into rfums i should come have dinner with him and his wife...a couple months later i was accepted so im guessing getting an e-mail back is prob a good sign that your interview went well, but i don't really know, my interviewer might have been just a really nice guy

I got one too, though it said "Welcome to CMS <firstname>, we hope you'll join us." And then the word "personally" was underlined in the letter with the same purple marker.

Interviewed 3/31, got the expected hold email today.

Did any of the people who got in from hold send letters of intent/update or anything like that? I feel like my chances might be lower because it's late, but I'd like to do everything in my power to make them as high as possible.

Although I interview in November, I was only recently accepted in March. I was put on a four month hold. During that time, I sent them a letter of intent and then when my fall semester grades were posted, I sent them a transcript with an update letter. It's never too late to try. Good luck!

Thank you. Just wanted to make sure they accepted such letters.

Congrats on your acceptance, by the way!

i was on hold for a month. so i sent in my newest transcripts and a letter of interest/update. this was about 6 weeks ago, but it should still work.

I e-mailed about my application and they said they were interviewing until the second week of May...I thought they would be done by now....

I got the podiatry e-mail too! I figured that wasn't a good sign 😀

Good luck to everyone else.

Hey all. I just checked my email and was accepted. WooHoo!!! I guess the bad part about that for me is my wife already accepted a really great job, so I will be giving up my spot at RFU to matriculate in sunny Arizona. I am still super excited to be going to medical school and wish everyone waiting for an acceptance good luck.
:luck::luck::luck: to all

Accepted too!!
I guess they're meeting more often toward the end
good luck to everyone waiting!!

Congrats both of you!

Neither of you got a hold email this month, did you?

no, didn't get a hold
but since they're meeting every other week now, I hope you hear soon!

No hold for me either. The acceptance email is the first correspondence I recieved from the school since my interview.

Got the acceptance email today too.
Interviewed on Feb 10th and was put on hold on March 16. Got another hold email on March 30th and now I've been accepted. My first!!!😍

congratulations on getting accepted!!!!!!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

so i'm a little confused on the whole financial aid process...what's the difference between a grad plus loan and stafford loan? also i was looking at the financial aid application they e-mailed me and there seemed to be no place to put the name of the lender that you choose. sorry, i've never had to take out loans and feel overwhelmed by the process, if anyone can help that would be great.

hey SDNers--just wanted to give some hope out there, i withdrew from RFU today. hope the spot goes out to one of you guys! don't give up, i'm hoping for a waitlist too!

i also took a housing spot, so hope someone who needs housing gets that too! good luck!

Grad Plus loans are what you take out after you've maxed out your limit for the Stafford loans, which is about $40K. While Stafford loans have a 6.8% interest rate, Grad Plus loans have an 8.6% interest rate. Also, while the first $8,000 or so of your Stafford loans is subsidized (meaning that interest doesn't accrue while you're in school), the Grad Plus loans (like the unsubsidized portion of your Stafford loans) do accrue interest during school, which is added to the loan balance. Therefore, you are highly likely to graduate from medical school owing substantially more on your loans than you originally borrowed.

Here is a link to an AAMC website that provides basic facts about student loans and other financial aid topics: http://www.aamc.org/programs/first/students/factsheets.htm

I've been procrastinating forever on doing this OpenNet stuff to apply for Stafford and Grad PLUS loans. Maybe someone who has already done it can lend a hand..

1st: In the profile information under grade level it only allows 3rd year, 4th year, graduate 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year. I thought I was 1st year (non graduate), does it matter?

2nd: As far as choosing a lender - every lender on the lender list they sent us has the same terms. Did anyone find any difference between the lenders?

Ok, that's all for now. Thanks for your help!

Ditto to everything legendary said. I withdrew from RFU just last week and gave up a housing spot. Good luck to everyone out there :luck:
