Holiday inn express is cheap and pretty close. I was told not to go outside though after dark. I walked to SLU, but it took quite a while and it was cold. You might want to stay at one of the more expensive places down town which actually has a shuttle service since it could save you money in the end if you decide not to walk everywhere.

I'm trying to withdraw from SLU but I can't figure out how. I sent an email about a week ago asking to withdraw but I never got a response... anyone know how?

I think on the SLU online status check (same website to submit secondary or schedule interviews), there's a button for if you want to withdraw. Have you tried that?

I got an interview invite today from SLU--but its in Seattle!

Anyone else out there do an off-campus interview? Whats it like? Obviously you can't see the campus, step in on classes or talk to students... Seattle is closer for me and cheaper, but should I consider going to MO for this?

Comments?

I'm reposting this because it got the last spot on the previous page and I'm afraid nobody saw it.

I think that totally depends. Do you have other acceptances? Is location going to play a pivotal role in choosing a medical school?

If SLU is your only interview and likely only acceptance just save the money and go to Seattle. But if you are already accepted at a school that is on par with SLU and location will play the deciding factor then definitely pay a little bit extra and head out to St. Louis, especially if you've never been there.

I have a couple of acceptances already, and I'm interested in SLU because I have heard alot of good things about the school. (I had a family member graduate from there.) However, I'm considering turning down the interview because the costs (private) may be too high for me when I weigh it against my other options. Anyone know if SLU has any good FA opportunities? I'm looking for merit/need based breaks on tuition. Its a shame but otherwise I think I'll pass on the interview.

They only provide need based scholarships... If you provide your parents financial information you can qualify for up to 10 thousand a year in need based, if you supply only yours then you can qualify for up to 5 thousand...

So it all depends on your need, but even if you were very needy the most you could get is 10 thousand I believe. I think this is what I remember them saying in the financial aid meeting.

Good luck with the decision! (If you want you can PM me and I can try and compare SLU to some of the other schools you are accepted to.)

I have an interview scheduled for SLU on Tuesday February 24. I will be flying in on Monday the 23rd. I want to stay one night in a hotel that has: a reasonable price, a free shuttle to the school, and a free shuttle to the airport. So far I have found nothing. I am under 25, so renting a car to drive to a cheap hotel is not an affordable option. Can anyone please recommend a hotel that meets the above criteria?

If you find a hotel close to a metrolink station, it's only a few dollars round trip and the "Grand Station" close to SLU has a free shuttle that picks up students every 15-20 minutes and takes them over to the med campus. The metrolink also goes all the way to Lambert airport so I'd say for travel, you could get off with paying less than $10 easily. I'm going to school here in St. Louis so I can't give you much advice about a hotel choice but maybe your research into hotels will give you blocks/distance from the metrolink. Hope that helps some!

Has anyone with an early January interview heard a decision yet?

Interview invite!!! Although I'm not sure if I am interested in light of the two acceptances I have and an upcoming interview, the ego boost feels good nonetheless! Plus I dont have to travel all the way to St. Louis from the west coast for this interview.

Interview scheduled March 6th at Newport Beach, CA!😎

haha yeah me too! i'm glad its in newport beach, i'm attending UCI so its just right next door 🙂

Sweet are you interviewing on March 6th too? I know they offered 3 different interview days in Cali. And speaking of UCI, ill be there this weekend for my interview on Monday!

Is UCI's med school campus on the undergrad campus?

oO haha i signed up for the 5th cause i dont have classes on that day.. oh and in terms of the school of medicine, our campus is kinda circular.. so all the undergraduate buildings are in the center of the circle while the grad school buildings (including the med school) surround it on the outside...there's a separate parking lot for the med school so it's pretty easy to navigate and find.. good luck with ur interviews!

For those of you with interview invites....when did you complete your secondary application??? I've been complete for a while now and haven't heard anything from SLU???

Just got my interview invite today! 🙂 I was complete in October.

I dont believe the medical school is on the undergraduate, its located at the UCI medical center in orange, about a 20min 15-20 min drive down the 55 fwy. I do believe that you interview on the UCI undergraduate campus.

Congrats! October, huh? That's about the same time I was complete. I thought they had forgot about me. Well, hopefully I get an invite soon too!

This is what usually confuses people. Unlike most medical schools where the teaching hospital/medical center is on the same campus as its medical school, the UC Irvine medical school and UCI Medical center are at two separate locations. The medical school is located on the graduate campus which is adjacent to the undergraduate campus.

Hey, rightfooted, I have an interview the same day and I am 25 and will have a car... I too am looking for a hotel of reasonable price, and if somehow we end up at the same hotel, we could just carpool. I don't know, just a thought if you're really in a bind. I actually haven't started looking at hotels or flights yet because I was really hoping to be accepted somewhere before then, in which case I may cancel my interview to save the money.

Anyway, let me know what you think, if you'd like to consider that. 🙂

aww, I am totally feeling the love in this thread - and I love it!

Has anyone with an early January interview heard a decision yet?

Not so far! I interviewed on the 13th - I'll hit the 4 week mark next Tues and I've already started obsessively checking my e-mail. Did you go the week before?

No, I had mine on Jan 12. Did they tell you guys to expect 4-5 weeks for a decision?

I have been complete as of late November, no news yet. I'm an international applicant though (Canada). I'm guessing my late submission stalled this whole process.

I'm a Canadian applicant too. My application was complete on Nov 11 and I got an invite on Dec. 2 and interviewed on Jan. 12. However, I've heard they are still giving out invites so hopefully you get some good news!

Yes, that's what they said... I'm really hoping I don't have to obsessively check my e-mail for 16 weeks... eek!

Should we place bets on when we find out? Im guessing Feb 26 ...

So what day are they on right now? The last people to hear I mean... I interviewed on the 13th so I'm curious also!

The last acceptance I see posted is ngkats on 1/8 from a 12/2 interview.

OK, I'm joining the SDN bandwagon. Up until this point, I've been a parasite, reading but not participating 🙂

I interviewed on 1/15 and no news yet. My interviewer said 8-10 weeks so I'm going to wait until the end of March to ask for an update. Good luck, all!

I interviewed on the 13th of January and the Dean told us during his short talk that we should hear in 4-5 weeks...

Thanks for hopping on. Nice name.

8-10, wow, funny that the interviewer and Dean should give different schedules ...

It was a regional interview in SF so I never actually heard the Dean's talk.

Anybody heard back after an interview recently?

JD, youre a physio right? What did you think of SLU? My g/f is heading over there in a few weeks and if she gets accepted to another school this week, she is thinking about canceling the interview... how was St. Louis? the facilities? students? in comparison to your impression of GUSOM...

just got my rejection email. good luck to those of you left waiting to hear back from slu still!

I'm sorry rjpark!!! If you dont mind me asking, when did you interview?

I'm sorry too ... I don't think she did interview, from looking at MDApps ...

I am a physio! Are you a MNTS writer?

Anyway... I enjoyed SLU... My least favorite part of the trip was the city of St. Louis. I just thought it was kind of gross, but I am fairly convinced that my wife and I could find a nice suburb to live in if we move there. The facilities aren't amazing, but they are a little bit better than Georgetown's. The "feel" at the school is very similar to Georgetown.

Overall I liked it a lot and am looking forward to hearing back soon hopefully. What other school is your girlfriend deciding between? Perhaps I could give a better opinion if I knew which school she was hoping to get accepted to this week.

Overall it is a good school. Good research opportunities, amazing new children's hospital, and faculty that seem to really care about teaching.

no, i didn't interview. i was complete in july and waited all this time just for a rejection 🙁 thanks though.

She should hear back from Creighton soon, probably tomorrow. I am guessing it will be a wait list, which makes this a moot point, but the input you gave is good. The people I know who went there last year to interview said pretty much the same thing. St. Louis is cheap I hear, but maybe because it's "gross".

Yes, I am a MNTS writer and former physio myself. Good luck with all the other interviews this spring!

So, just to continue beating the dead horse. :beat:

I interviewed at the end of January and he definitely said 3-4 weeks lol. Does anyone really know what we should expect?

Its hard because it doesn't seem like anyone on SDN has gotten accepted recently for us to try and figure it out. I interviewed in the first half of January and haven't heard back yet. It has been over 5 weeks for me... So I'd say if they are going in order you have a little while left. I'll definitely post once I hear something!!

Anybody else heard from beginning of January?

Jan. 12 interview here. Was told 4-5 weeks and it has been over 5 weeks now. Anyone wanna call and find out what the deal is?

I interviewed on the 13th and just found out this morning via e-mail that I have been alternate listed...

Interesting, but I look forward to seeing it play out! So 5 weeks and 3 days to hear back post interview... Good luck!!
