That's funny, because I called him today and he told me the same thing. Except that decisions would be made by the end of this month..

Patience, patience, patience. Hopefully, by this time next year, we'll all be happily situated in med school and laughing at our current neuroticness..

I'm unclear on what you mean. Did Ed tell you that they have not finished reviewing Dec/Jan interviewees?

It seems like everyone is getting a slightly different story, so who knows what the exact truth is. All I know is he had my file open when he told me that Dec/Jan interviewees who got accepted have all been notified. Maybe he's only telling that to people who are waitlisted/rejected.

I'm done having my hopes up. Hopefully I am laughing next year at my current neuroticness...from Keck!

Does anyone know if admission committees know what schools we've been accepted to so far?

Just curious, but what was the latest interview date to hear back with an acceptance? 😕 I remember one from early February, but that was a while ago.

I think that a school can only see where else you have been accepted after they accept you up until May 15th. After May 15th I think that they can see with or without accepting you.

Whoops, didn't mean to be unclear. He told me that they had finished accepting everybody who was interviewed in December/January but they were working on the WL/rejections until the end of the month (not next week).. I wonder if they ever get sick of picking up their phones, haha. 😉

Word, I think it's better to be surprised later than disappointed. 😱 > 🙁, yeah?

I called the Office of Admissions for the first time this morning after, like everyone else here, getting impatient over the lack of information.

I had a very brief talk with Ed, who said all decisions have been made for Dec and Jan interview acceptances (which I realize is not new news), but that a decision regarding mine had not been made (I had the first Feb interview day). He said they hope to have made decisions for the remaining interviewees (those of us who interviewed Feb or later) by May 15. I did not get any further insight into the review process (whether chronological or not) or reasons for the continued delays.

I really enjoyed my interview and visit of UC Davis, but am beginning to wonder how an administrative problem such as this extremely poor admissions process goes unsolved, year after year (from what I've both heard and witnessed). This is partly me venting my frustration, but what other problems exist if this one continually fails to be resolved? How successful can their revisit be if no one interviewed in either Feb or Mar is invited?

Oh well. Take care.

Hey, I also interviewed early Feb and I thought about putting a call in today, but I will wait. I guess their second look will be only Dec, Jan with maybe a few Feb people. Thanks for the info.

I still find it hard to believe that not a single one of us on this board from the December 10th group got any love. I know there were at least 5 of us there on that day (davydude7, brainlover, scottyt, regley, sm007thie). One would think that at least one of us would have gotten in. Maybe our whole interview group got deleted or something? This delay sucks ... 4 months is longer than most mail-in rebates take to process!

Hellooooo Davis, even though you decided I wasn't worth an acceptance just yet, I'm still waiting to hear something! I'm a human too, and I want a response!

i hear you!

Everyone waiting: don't give up! I just got the call from Ed around 2:10pm EST! I was in class...could not get to my phone, and was in the back and middle of the classroom so could not rush out...then the professor kept going on and on lol. But, I'm in! I interviewed Dec 17th and had gone through many of the scenarios in my head regarding how they were making their decisions as everyone else and was trying to move on. I really wish the process was less stressful...I almost want to work in the admissions office to help them out!

:luck: good luck! :luck:

Thanks for the info. Its good to know that there are still people from December being accepted. I am still not going to hold my breath however.

Congratulations! Your post has us completely befuddled. Haha

oh it's all good. I never took calculus and wasn't about to scramble to take that class before school started!
(it is required prior to matriculation isn't it?)

DrMatt, did you interview? As far as I have heard it seems like you're the first to get that e-mail. I'm waiting to find out if I'm rejected or waitlisted.

Hi everyone,

I've posted before about my situation regarding UCD's prerequisites. Unfortunately I have only two quarters of English on my transcript, while Davis requires a minimum of three. I have taken courses that were writing intensive but not from the english department. Considering Davis is one of my top choices and my interview with them went really well, to say I am disappointed about my situation would be an understatement. Does anyone know of someone who has been in a similiar situation at other schools (other UC's maybe) and was able to successfully petition/eventually matriculate. After my interview at Albert Einstein they told me they would accept my senior thesis as my third quarter of english, I just dont know if Davis will be as lenient. Thanks for any input.

Thanks fizzle and no problem davydude. Reading my previous post, I realize I sounded quite breathless. 😳

Who knows what the process is there; it doesn't seem very organized and yet it remains frustratingly so. I know it's easy for me (at this point) to say breathe and wait. We all got to this point, and we're all definitely qualified. 🙂

nope, never interviewed.
Here is a copy of the rejection email text:

Dear Applicant:
Thank you for applying to the UC Davis School of Medicine.

After careful consideration, we are unable to offer you a position for the class entering in July 2009. We received applications from a highly competitive pool of nearly 5,000 students like yourself. Wiith only 105 seats available, the Admissions Committee faced an extremely difficult task.

Best wishes for your future endeavors.

congrats! Its awesome you got in, even after it was almost certain all dec/jan interviewers were doomed. Hope there are more surprises for the reset of you:xf:

I almost lost count of the weeks, but today marks 18! That is 126 days. For our canine friends, that is almost 2.5 dog years. Maybe my app was eaten by their dogs? Who knows. At any rate, I guess they don't want any of the December 10th interviewees at the revisit day. How nice of them.

I told myself I wouldn't check my medical school e-mail account or student doctor at work and yet here I am, checking. When will the anxiety end?? Please give us Dec 10ers some love!!!😳

I am going to go with May 14th. maybe we should start a pool! 😀

Actually, according to this, dogs age at 10.5 dog years per human year for the first 2 years. That would make our wait equal to (126/365.25)*10.5= 3.62 dog years.

Since my interview date at UC Davis, I've:
• interviewed at and heard back from 4 other medical schools
• seen a change of president
• opened and closed the 08/09 ski season
• filed and received refunds on both my federal and state taxes

Anyone else have something interesting to share from the last 4+ months?

I like this game! 😛 I've:

  • paid $2000 to reserve a seat at a DO school
  • interviewed and heard back from an East Coast school
  • finished several research projects
  • seen news coverage on an actual pirate attack
  • celebrated 5+ major holidays (Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's, St. Patty's and Easter... not to mention Hannukah, Passover, and other holidays I unfortunately do not know much about)
... for starters...

Hilarious! haha. ScottyT, you probably just want closure, but with your awesome acceptances, would you actually attend UC Davis?

I would like to play the game but I didn't interview in December, so it hasn't been that long.

On another note, does anyone know how fill the class is? I wish Davis would accept me so I can check out a second look =/.

UC Davis is still a strong contender for personal reasons. I would actually consider it even though I have a bunch of other acceptances. I try not to think about it too much though as it's easier to focus on what I have in hand rather than speculate on the unknown.

As far as class size, someone posted earlier that they have accepted more than the class is large. You shouldn't be concerned by that though because they have to accept quite a few students to fill the class and have a lot of waitlist movement (from what I've gathered from the previous year's threads).

The silence has ended. I am officially the first person waitlisted at UC Davis this year circa 5 minutes ago. This comes as a surprise to me as I thought my interview went even better than the ones at the schools I've been accepted to. Oh well, best of luck to everyone else who has not heard.

You've been accepted to some really great schools. I know it's hard to focus on the positive, but think of all the people who haven't gotten an acceptance yet and are starting the dreadful reapplication process. Yikes!

Thanks for sharing your information. Maybe the anxiety will end for me too. Good luck with wait list movement!

FYI: Interviewed early January and waitlisted today.

Class of 2013 at USC Keck or U Miami, or...?

Hey there ScottyT... congratulations for getting on the waitlist. Getting this far into the application process is in fact a real achievement. What day did you interview? and did they let you know via email or phone call?

December 10th, 2008. e-mail notification and my status page did not change at all.

Oh wow. I wonder if rejections come through snail mail or are being sent in a separate email batch later on. That might be why I still haven't received anything yet... 🙁

Anyway, condolences on your waitlist (depending on your perspective), but you've got great acceptances at other UCs, so I don't know how sorry I should feel for you 😛

haha, I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me. I was simply reporting the facts and sharing my situation. I did notice that the e-mail was sent directly from Ed to me rather than being part of a distribution list or a BCC. He may be going down the list and sending them individually. If this is the case it would take quite a while to get the word out to everyone.

In any case, the process for UC Davis has been far from predictable so you shouldn't read into it too much

:luck:

Regardless, the fact that you're on the waitlist means that you've still got a decent chance (since Davis does reject quite a few interviewees and has decent waitlist movement).

As for me, I'm going to check SDN before I check my email inbox, because knowing that rejections are going out will soften the blow by allowing me to mentally prepare to find that thin email. Eh...

Congrats on the waitlist Scott! I hope that I am (at least) as lucky as you. I am sure you are going to be placed extremely well on the waitlist.

I'm also playing the waitlist game... it's pretty long!
Anyhow, I interviewed 2/4/09 and I got an email today from Ed stating that I would be placed on the waiting list.

I hope to get in somewhere! Now 4 wait lists, and 0 acceptances. 🙁

wow...should i worry that i'm not on the waitlist? gosh i'm so tired of checking SDN everyday and being disappointed by my email inbox. Now i'm rethinking my interview and wondering if i did something wrong. Just a question for those accepted already, did you all have an update that you sent to davis after the interview? I didnt have anything significant to update so i said " no update but I would still like to go to UC davis" (much more polished of course). thanks

My first post here. I just got a email regarding being placed in the waitlist too. Such a long wait since I was interviewed in Dec. 🙁

I don't know...if all acceptances have gone out for early interviewers, and all waitlists came out today, then it's not very fun anticipating the third option 🙁

I'm with you, not feeling to excited:scared:

We don't know that all the waitlist notices came out yesterday. We may be ok still.

Hey shwaycool, I didn't send an update email.

I didn't get a waitlist email either... and didn't want to wait for the rejection email so I called them yesterday.

According the them I am "Still in Review" no decision has been made at date.... so there is a forth option.

And YES rejections will be coming via email they said, not snail mail.

That's exactly what I am worried about... I hope they aren't saving the rejections for today. 🙁

CONGRATS ScottyT! Many people get in that are on waitlists so I am sure you'll be going there next (or this, really) year if you want to. I am hoping so very much for, like Davydude said, at least a waitlist. I keep worrying about parts of my interview where I could have had stronger responses even though I know there is nothing that I can do...

I truly hope that there is some form of news from Davis today... and of course I hope it's good news... :scared:

Received an email for the wait list yesterday. Kinda figures since I interviewed in December and didn't hear back from them till now. Does anybody know what are the chances of coming off the wait list?
