Rejected 8/14. Complete 7/24
40 MCAT and 3.99 GPA
already have 4 invites from schools ranked higher than BU ... only applied because of Boston (still would have been nice to get an interview though, not gonna lie!)
glad to see i'm in good company at least

Even if the Dean of Admissions were an absolute jackass, how does that necessarily mean that it's "better to go somewhere else"?
That was a bit of hyperbole. If you interview there you'll probably understand what I mean, though. I've met with him and he lies like there is no tomorrow. For example, he'll go on about how BU gets over 10,000 applications and over 100 applicants vie for each spot at BU. That's not true. The 10,000 refers to the number of people who designate BU on their Amcas application. Nowhere near that many actually fill out and pay the secondary application fee in order to be complete and actually have their application considered for admission. There are some very bright people that go to BU, but there are also a significant number of dullards. BU has one of the strongest AA policies I've seen, hidden under the guise of 'diversity'. You'll hear that word a lot as well.

just got my rejection letter
complete 7/24, gpa 3.6 mcat 33P

It's good to know I'm in good company with this rejection

Partly true, but note that many applicants do not complete at other schools as well. Last year, I think the number of completed applications was still around 8,000, which is like a stunning 75%. Even if BU got 6,000 completed applications, that would still put them pretty far up, among the highest numbers.

I didn't know it increased that much. I last number I saw, which was 2-3 years ago showed something around 5500. It's actually surprising that it went up that much since, from what I have been told, they only started using a secondary application a few years ago. Previously, you added BU on your Amcas, then they ask for a bunch of money even though they would only use the Amcas info to determine if you were invited for an interview. The few private schools which do this will obviously get more applicants since it requires no more work to apply, just $$.

I agree that other schools have a smaller number of completed applications. However, I have never come across a school that intentionally brags using misleading numbers the way BU does. Other admissions directors have specifically said, 'We receive X Amcas applications, Y are completed and considered for Z interviews'.

Yeah thats the fun part. Their secondary still is basically nothing. Optional essays lol. Hence, it is really easy for ppl to complete their app.

Fair enough, but getting one of the most applicants is among BU's claims. Getting twice as many as the local schools puts them in a bit of a different light imo.

I was trying to find the answer to this question, when I got tired at the 5th page... lol. But I only have pretty much one lab for each of the sciences. 2 for Bio, 1 for Chem, Orgo, and Phys, and they're all on quarter. Would it be pointless to send in this secondary since they request 1 year of labs from each? I'm kind of an average student and I'm a little below their acceptance averages, so I'd rather not send in a secondary if it's goign to be bounced.

rejected. and i know someone on the adcom. le sigh.

SS: 7/10, C: 7/21, R: 8/17

peace out, BU thread!

I just got rejected this morning.

This is surprising, considering I interviewed there 2 years ago in early october and was placed on the waitlist. My application has significantly improved since then as well, including a higher MCAT score, graduate school grades, and foreign medical experience.

Just goes to show how random the process is (and illogical).

In any light, I am far from surprised...

has anyone been recently marked complete?

I'm really curious to see who these guys are willing to interview. It seems like some stellar applicants are being shut out.

they're just rejecting anyone who posts on SDN - That is the only kind of trend I can see!

It is far from "random," nor is it "illogical," but it is definitely inscrutable. Just because SDNers can't see the logic does not mean there is none.

Don't be such a debbie downer, slowbutsteady, we are all just trying to make each other feel better....these people who are getting rejected have really high scores, I doubt they would have done that well on the MCAT if they did not know how to reason properly!

Just let everyone vent!

OK, fair enough. But believing a process to be completely random is not very comforting, IMHO.

Vent away.

Rejected today. A little worried w/ two rejections and no interview invites... but I'm sure it will work itself out.

Sigh, I feel you...at least I still have 24 more schools to hear from.

to those of you being rejected in the last few days or today... when were you complete? =)

anyone else getting an error message when they try to check their status?

Trust me, it will work itself out. You can get a little nervous in about 6 weeks. No reason to get actually worried until December.

fellow citizen of bummer city. rejected this morning, was complete on 7/28. one of my favorites too 🙁

rejected this morning as well. complete 7/24. that makes 3 rejections 🙁

34R/3.8+ish, beheaded.

News came this morning.

Oh well. Peace out and good luck to you all still in the running!

It's BU 😉 They want an Olympic gold-medalist in every seat.

awesome, i still have a chance. everyone laughed at my biathlon competitions, but who's laughing now?! C'mon BU, you know you want a skiing/shooting medical practitioner in your school.

An american has never won gold in that event. They also have to want a skiing/shooting foreigner to let you in.

Holy cow, you can shoot while you ski? That's actually really tight.

Well with all the 3.9/42T rejections I figure a skiing/shooting foreigner with a 3.2/27M is the golden ticket. No?

you don't actually ski while you shoot. you ski, then stop and shoot targets, rinse and repeat. it's harder than it sounds though, because the skiing gets your heart pumping, then you have to steady your breathing and cardio to shoot the targets.

Probably. I wish I knew the key that unlocked the BU admissions process. It seems like there's one or two things they look for, and if they're not there, they axe the person regardless of any accomplishments.

I have question about the biology lab requirements. Is the year of biology lab they are looking for the labs that you are supposed to take with Intro to Biology? Or can it be the labs you took with Genetics/MCB? Sorry if its a stupid question, but I might be out of the race before I even entered. Really like this school too, thought checked all the requirements before I submitted primaries.
Hey sorry to bother you guys again, but can someone please answer my question?
