Peaceful march to the guillotine I presume?

God, why did I even apply to this school....I feel like they just want to wreck you, your friends' confidence, etc..
 
i tried to do a search on this q, but 22 pages is quite a long thread!

does anyone know if there's a *max* to how many lors we can send in, assuming we at least meet the required 3?
 
as the "complete" days get closer and closer to my complete date (8/19) i feel like i'm slowly walking the plank...
 
This is crazy! Everyone has been rejected so far. Anyone else holding on to a fantasy of being the first SDNer to shout "Interview!!"?
 
oh when will the guillotine come, I was complete 8/10....
 
I don't get it?! People with ridiculous stats are getting rejected. Either people are lying (which makes no sense) or BU thinks just because they're in the same city as Harvard that they ARE Harvard...

On one of the pages 3.86 and a 34 got Rejected without even an interview... WTF?

Better stats than that have been rejected. No one has gotten an interview.

I think BU recognizes that a lot of people apply to it as some sort of "back up school"....i.e. people with ridiculous stats who probably will end up going someplace else. When you only have a certain number of interview spots...they take the approach of only selecting students for interview who would probably be most likely to consider going to BU if accepted. Makes sense from some standpoints...as this initial screen is probably based entirely off of GPA and MCAT score rather than the rest of your application.

I think the problem with this approach is that you miss out on a lot of great applicants who might really contribute to the medical school if they end up enrolling. Just my guess.

I think that we can assume that this process is no longer strictly stat-based. Adcoms are realizing that there are many capable, motivated students who don't have the best grades/scores. The adcom (hopefully) know what they are looking for - someone who probably seems like a good fit for the school.

No one should take rejections too personally. I know this seems counterintuitive because it is our lives on paper. But thats why we apply to so many schools, right? We can't get into all of them, no matter how fantastic we look on paper.

..rejected today. C around 08/01, hold 08/14, R 09/01...
I don't think it's a "safety" thing..I would've definitely attended if I got in..my numbers are pretty crappy. But I thought I had really good ECs..I think Boston is just looking for something VERY specific, and so far no one on SDN has it. either that, or they've got a built-in sdn radar, and autoreject sdners..-_-

So does anyone know what "type" of students BU is looking for?
 
Any MSTP applicants hear anything yet? I've been complete well over a month with no communication.

Lol. :laugh: Who really knows what they want. There is a reason why adcoms are not more transparent. If they told us what they were looking for, everyone would over manipulate their application for each school. Clone applications don't say anything unique.

I'm very zen about this process. I was honest in secondaries and figure I will end up where I best match, even if this school isn't top 10, 20, or 50.
 
I think we are all missing the point. Sure there's stats to consider, but BU realizes that they have much more to consider in all the applicants it has. And since it has the most or 2nd most applicants out of all the other universities, it definitely has it's choices. So they're probably considering more of who is a better fit based on their background and motivations.
 
This thread is depressing. BU is weird. I have no idea what they're looking for but they must be big on rejecting people with high scores/GPA, because I haven't been rejected yet KNOCK ON WOOD. I was complete 7/29...

Edit: Just checked my status page...Invite as well. Woot! I'll be there October 14th. My gmail is down, so I assume there's an email there.

My email is down right now, damn gmail, so I can't really check it. But I got an email to my phone that said that my status has been updated and it says in the email that it is an interview invite.

I will post more details once gmail is back up.
 
you can go to igoogle.com and check your emails from there. it's not as interactive as the REAL gmail but it works 🙂
 
Interview Invite!! I am very excited. The dates they gave me are not until mid october, however. BU is sure moving slowly.

Submitted secondary around July 11th, complete shortly after that (my recs were in late June). Stats: 3.7 cGPA, 3.8 sGPA, MCAT 36T.

LOL i love how after months of seeing tons of rejections, the very first invite post is so completely calm and subtle, nice job neuromcdoctor. And congratulations to those with invites so far.

So who's gonna be the first newb to post, "I didn't get invited yet, does that mean I'm rejected?!?! 😱"

wow pharaoh88 i thought they were rejecting people with great stats. this school makes no sense!

Does anyone know how to check if a med school has downloaded the committee rec letter from amcas? If so, is there anyway to stop them from downloading it while i get replacement letters? i smell sabotage in the air.

I am so confused now. I was complete on 7/27, and I still haven't heard anything. I guess no news is good news?
 
My first rejection, still 22 more chances! I hate this process 🙂

it means you made it through the first round. if you hadn't you would have already been rejected. still got round #2 to get through.

Are you sure about that complete date? BU said they were inviting by complete date in the 30 day email i received... Based on the complete dates of the other invites, I think its unlikely theyd skip a whole month's worth of people 🙂

What do you mean by round number two?...I was complete August 6th but have not heard anything.
 
FYI, if anyone is looking for a hotel for the interview...I just called the Hamptom Inn across the street from the interview location. If you mention that you're going for an interview at BMC, they'll give you a suite for $130 (it's usually $210)...which is a pretty good deal to be able to wake up in the morning and stroll into your interview.

There's a post a while back that someone made (maybe it was me) about the Director of Admissions explaining the process. Basically they screen out applicants more quickly based off of GPA and MCAT and other factors, then if you pass that round they look at your application more thoroughly to decide yes or no on an interview. I'd imagine a lot of these rejections come from people who's numbers are either too low (or too high) in the initial screen...thus if you don't get a quick rejection, it's likely they're reviewing your app more intensely in deciding to give you an interview or not.
