I have an interview coming up, and I was wondering what the general consensus is? Laid-back? Intense? etc.

I found mine to be fairly laid back. He basically said tell me about yourself, then a few questions that were basically like go into more detail about X thing that you said or Y activity. They apparently are mandated to ask about an ethical dilemma (or talk about one), and so (strangely) he made me come up with one...it was quite a weird experience on that part of it, but not too bad. We ended up just talking about some problem I came up with that I had encountered in medicine. Good luck!

anyone going in tomorrow morning?

Is the turn around time for interview invites (and other status changes) still at about 6 weeks? Or has it been pushed closer to 2 months at this point?

I'm about at my 6th week "under review" and I'm curious if I should expect to get some sort of decision soon.

i'm at 80+ days since completion...hold on tight because it's a long wait!

At the interview, they said that they have two interview periods - September through early/mid December and early/mid January through February/March. They send out interview invitations about a month in advance, so they're probably about finished inviting for the first interview period. I imagine that those who have been complete a while and are still in the running are probably being considered for the second interview period and will likely hear about invitations in December and January. Good luck!

The Admissions Committee meets in December. At this meeting, they will decide the disposition of interviewed applicants (Accept, Decline, Defer), and most likely begin the process of selecting interviewees for the next round.

That is odd. From the 30 day notice it sounded like they were going through applicants on a continual basis. ~sigh~ And interviews seemed to be trickling in based on some of the previous responses. I wish schools were more transparent

Don't misunderstand me - I know the committee meets in December. What I don't know is whether they are reviewing apps for interview on a continual basis. I imagine, however, that invites for this first round are either exhausted completely, or very nearly so.

Oh, and good use of "continual"!

🙂

Well it's good to know they meet in December. Maybe the trickle represents the few interview slots that open up from cancellations. I waited this long, I might as well wait another month or two to hear from them.

i'm going to go to boston for the entire weekend to check out the city. anyone who wants go to exploring, let me know and pm me

good luck all

Is the general consensus that applicants complete after end of August will get an invite (or rejection) during the second review round?

And even if I do get an interview for the second round, the committee won't meet to decide on me until end of March?

I should have requested my committee letter earlier 🙁

interview invite! complete late august. i have an option of early december or early january. is there an advantage of interviewing in early december? i know that admissions sends out acceptances once in december for people interviewed up until december, but how many acceptances are sent out then, and do people who interview in january have the same chance?

Congrats!! I'd say interview earlier ... how will it hurt you and usually it can only help you

Guess it depends on how badly you want this school and/or how confident you that you will get in somewhere... good luck on making your decision. That is definitely a tough choice. Meanwhile, I will continue to hop around hoping BU will eventually take notice of me 🙂

Grats on the interview. I'm in pretty much the same boat. I've been complete since August 24th, and I've dodged all the rejection waves so far. What day were you complete?

Tikka's interview invite should put to rest the "BU rejects people with high stats" myth.

Good luck Tikka!!!

just fyi, hms isn't in cambridge. although i'm sure it would help your chances if you demonstrated your walking-on-water abilities 😛

Does anyone know the stats for # interviewed, # accepted, # matriculated for BU from last year's class or previous classes?

Welp. My head rolled.

Complete 10/28
Rejected 11/18
Undergrad GPA 3.48
PhD GPA 3.65
MCAT 41T

First rejection for me due to my late start. Boston wasn't my first choice but it still stings!

i just had my interview at this school and it blew me away, everyone was so nice and informative, the interview went extremely well, the med students were really helpful

this school just jumped to the top of my list, hopefully ill hear good news in january

From last year's thread, good news starts sprinkling down from Jaunary 7th. Almost 2 months away still LOL

sorry to hear that. i was complete on the 27th of Oct and havent heard anything yet. was this an email, snail mail, or status update online?

I got an email saying I had a status update, and then farther down the email the bad news began... 🙁

I suspect in my case it was lack of ECs (other than research) and potentially my crappy secondary essays. I put important info (how having a PhD prepares me for and relates to a future career in medicine/med research) into the optional essay, and the required essay was basically just some drivel about my background.

Oh well! Best of luck to everyone else. Boston's a great place (city and school).

So, I keep hearing about these "ethical" questions that BU gives during interview, but haven't found any mentioned. What sorts of questions have people been asked?

i got asked 0 ethical questions
my interview was just a discussion of various topics (my childhood, immigration, BU and their various programs and life in general)
no question answer format at all
