We're very protective of our coffee. You could've hurt its feelings!!:meanie:

In breakfast related goings-on, the admissions office treated us to a rather delicious breakfast just for us and not applicants last week. :d SO GOOD.

In our off-topic goings-on, I finally got around to watching the Star Trek reboot yesterday. I was wandering wikipedia, as many are prone to do, when I came upon this interesting tidbit about Kate Mulgrew.

...why didn't I know this?!
Hahaha....awesome...the only thing better than that would have been to use James Earl Jones...

I didn't know it either. We should invite her for the eggplant potluck.

Hi!!! To whoever knows the answer to this =DDDDD

Just a quick question:

From what I've been seeing on this thread- waitlist is different from hold/high hold.
Does this mean that if you were on hold/high hold before, there is still only a small chance of being on the waitlist- or is it kind of an automatic?
So- if I did want to write an LOI should I wait until the waitlist notification comes or should I send it now with the assumption that I will get one?

Sorry if that came out convoluted or if I just started stressing other people out ><
Waitlist is definitely different than being on hold. To reiterate, there are three final decisions that can be made on your app: acceptance, waitlist, or rejection. In contrast, hold is a temporary status. When the adcomm decides to defer making a decision on your app, then you go on hold until a decision gets made. Within the next month, all of you who are on hold and high hold will be receiving a final decision of acceptance, waitlist, or rejection.

I would suggest waiting until you get your decision letter before sending an LOI. The letter won't change whatever your final status is, so if you don't end up getting waitlisted, it won't do you any good whatsoever.

not sure what they plan to do with high hold...my sense of logic clashes with the wording of the high hold letter

logic: they will waitlist 30-50 people but like other schools, they will try to pick a diverse smattering of waitlistees so they can "replace" people who drop out with waitlistees who look similar. they dont do this kind of analysis when putting people on high hold/hold so there is a chance you could be on high hold and not make the waitlist, or on hold and still make the waitlist

letter: "some prior years we would be certain you would have received an offer by the end of the interview period based on your rating. you are within the top group for any openings that become available. we should know by april 15th"--which makes it sound like we will be at the top of the waitlist (though nobody knows how many people are on HH)
Seems reasonable, but again, I don't know how this assembly of the waitlist is going to work. I'll let you guys know if I can get any info that is more specific.

I don't know if I'd want the captain of the ship that got lost in the delta quadrant being the voice of my bus. Granted she made it back faster than expected.
She also managed to infect the Borg queen and collective with a neurotoxin and destroy one of only six transwarp conduits known to be in existence, all while changing history so that Seven of Nine does not die and the crew manages to get home in seven years instead of 23, just in time for the end of the series.

Ironically, I just watched the final double episode online a few days ago. Until about a week ago, I had never watched Voyager at all. The first episode I saw was the one where Q leaves his son on the ship, which led me to ask the obvious question of why Q didn't just send Voyager home in the first place. Short of telling me to watch seven years worth of episodes in hopes of getting an answer to this burning question, does anyone know?

Metro Hospital System.

He is sooo cool.👍

Is asking for some internal consistency really too much? Now I know why I never watched this series in the first place. 🙄

Anyone remember this from Voyager?

Sorry, but I've only seen about half a dozen episodes, not including the one where those things showed up. Are they some kind of alien lungfish?

I forget what the circumstances were, but Janeway and Chakotay devolve into those things and are marooned on the planet until the doctor finds a way to cure them. I think Paris also turns into a fish-lizard... thing.

Just popping in...why is this on the second page? It makes it so much harder to find this thread! 😕

Back to studying. Cs get degrees!

I wasn't able to get answers to all of the questions you guys were asking, but here's what I have.

First, the waitlist is still being drawn up. Not everyone on high hold will necessarily end up on the waitlist. Some people on hold may end up on the waitlist. The number of people on the waitlist is not predetermined. Again, if you end up on the waitlist and CCLCM is your first choice, you should write a letter of intent to Dean Franco.

Second, some of the waitlisted people will be invited to the second look. If that's you, it's a good sign. The waitlist is not ranked, but you're in the top group if you get a second look invite.

Finally, the exact number of people who were accepted last year to fill the current first year class was 47. There are currently 31 acceptances that have been confirmed. More acceptances will be given out as some of the accepted people withdraw.

That's all the info I've got right now.

Thats interesting that they only accept the exact number of the class, usually i thought schools accepted a lot more cos people drop out...its also interesting that the accepted list has been made but not thw waitlist...oh well more waiting and hoping...did they start inviting people to second look already? I am still hoping...i really like this school

Thanks SO much for clearing this all up, it really takes the stress out of not knowing what's going on behind closed doors.

I swear that if I get in I will take over the SDN thread for you after you leave 😀

Thats really funny cos i a promised myself that i would join the admissions commitee of whatever med school im fortunate enough to get accepted as to help poor applicants who r in limbo...great minds think alike?

Well...I admire both of you for your inventivness...but...somebody else promised CCLCMer a matchbox CAR...and they got in...
Association is not Causation, I know...but you know what...they have these awesome trick-tracks for those cars that snap together...they are pretty sweet...plus...they don't hurt nearly as much when you step on them in the middle of the night...

matchbox car? lol thats really funny...and sure i ll get CCLCMer whatever car he wants (thats not real lol) how abt a car bumper sticker?

CCLCMer...I hope you didn't want to sleep tonight! I expect lots and lots of questions will have just been generated by your late-night post! 😳
Look, man, you can keep tightening the screws on me all you want, but you're not going to get anything more out of me!

Most schools do over-accept, including the UP. But since our class is so small, we can't afford to over-accept. There isn't enough room to have nine people in a PBL group. 😉

There is no "accepted list." Those 31 people are the people who received phone calls over the past few months after the three subcommittee meetings and returned their letters to hold their place in the class.

All of the accepted people have been invited to the second look. I assume that they will send invites to some of the waitlisted people after they finish putting together the waitlist.

You got a deal. Otherwise, I'm going to have to train vc7777 to do it, and you can all foresee the kind of disaster THAT would be. 🙄 :meanie:

I think this is what drives a lot of students who decide to join the adcomm or otherwise help with the admissions process. I've been volunteering for admissions the entire time that I've been in medical school. It's also the reason why I hosted applicants, started my blog, and created this account to answer questions and update you guys. I didn't realize how in demand this liaison business would turn out to be. 😛

yeah...come to think of it...if you didn't catch it (back on page 48 or 32...or something?)...I carved an eggplant with the CWRU logo...so...you guy really should be thinking outside the (match)box...
The relevant portion of your eggplant carving can be viewed in my avatar. 🙂

We now have CCLCM bumper stickers as of this year. You know your med school has arrived when you have your very own bumper stickers!

Agreed, and younow you belong in that med school when you also think of bumper stickers as being awesome *hint hint*
oh well, im gonna keep my fingers crossed as usual, pray and hoppe it all works out...
thanks for the awesome info you always give us and keep anything new coming 🙂

🙁
All joking aside...I don't think I could replace you in a million years (you know I'm not saying that to get in... 😛)

I lack a mastery of 'thoughtful articulation' in my posts that you seem to wield with such ease...yeah...not sure I'd cut the mustard...plus I use way too many ellipses when exhausted...damn period button should have worn out a long time ago...

So does anyone know anything about the UP waitlist? I know we won't find out who of us hold people get on it until the end of this month but info like whether it is ranked/unranked, how many people are on the waitlist, how many waitlisters typically get accepted each year etc. would be really helpful. Thanks!

Will do. I was just telling someone who PMed me to ask when the final decision letters would be sent out that I will post once the office confirms that they've been sent. They will have to finish drawing up the waitlist fairly quickly, because otherwise there won't be enough time to invite some of the waitlisted people to the second look.

🙁

Don't worry. I will be a tough taskmaster, but the end result is that your posts will be extremely thoughtful and articulate by this time next year. Probably even better than mine. 😀

Quick question for those of you who applied to both CCLCM and Case -- is it possible to apply for the MSTP program at one and the MD program at the other, simultaneously?

pretty sure you can apply for both CCLCM and MSTP. MSTP is exclusively through UP, from what I understand.

by the way, question for Myu or any other UPer:

am i missing out on any swag by missing the UP second look? cause i want swag.

/had a couple drinks

I haven't even gotten my acceptance packet, much less had the opportunity to return this letter to hold my spot...ugh it's getting mailed to my permanent address first before it'll get forwarded to me. Does one exist? I got an email from the office inviting me to 2nd look. I'll fill it out this weekend since it's Exam Time here. (The thing keeping me going is that in 3 months, I may never have exams again! [except Step I and the like])

We had a really sweet bag last year.👍 I can pass your inquiry on to the relevant parties, though. :d

Back to anxiously waiting for an email instead of for a phone call!

Top of the page! Take that, vc7777. :meanie:

The MSTP is its own program. When you apply to Case, you have the option of applying to any or all of the three programs: UP, CCLCM, and MSTP. If you apply to two programs or all three of them, you'll have separate interviews for each program.

Haha, you just got the call a few days ago. That's definitely not enough time for the letter to have gotten to you, assuming the office has even sent them out yet! Don't worry. You're not going to lose your place in the class. 🙂

Just as a head's up, next week is Match Week. Applicants find out on Monday whether they matched, and they find out where they matched on Thursday. I'll post the new CCLCM match list once we get it.

Wow, that's interesting. At most schools I've looked at, an application to the MSTP implies an application to the 4-year MD program as well -- so if you are rejected from the MSTP, you can still be put into consideration for the 4-year program. It sounds like CWRU does things differently.

I'm guessing that most people who apply to the MSTP probably apply to the UP as well. I don't know how the UP handles it if you apply to the MSTP and don't get an invite. You should check the MSTP website and see what they say.

Not everything is about you guys, you know. 😛 😉

Match Week is when the graduating medical students who are applying for residency find out if they matched and which residency program they matched to. A lot of people on SDN like to see the match lists to know where graduates of the med school have gone, so that's why I said I would post it for whoever is interested. I'll have it for you guys on Thursday night or Friday.

cclcmer, are you a senior? what are you hoping to match into??
Yes, I'm a senior, but I haven't applied yet. Since our program is five years long instead of the normal four, I'll be applying this summer and graduating in May 2011, not 2010. As I've joked to several people, I am enjoying the fourth year of med school so much that I'm going to do it twice. 😀

As we approach the all-time reply record for the School Specific forum (currently held by the now-closed Univ. of Arizona thread at 2994) AND The 3000th Post, I thought I would should lay down some ground rules:

1) No padding - don't double or triple post to get us there.

2) No deleting posts (we don't want a repeat of the 50th page-iversary shenanigans :meanie:)

3) All other methods are fair game! (alliances, SDNLive, etc...)

Good luck! Let's keep it clean. May the best post-er win!

post #2999:
post #3000:
Thou Hast Broken One of VC's 3 Commandments!

Ah, but I never agreed to be bound by his commandments. 😀

Edit: He IS going to make a fuss about it though, isn't he?
[DELAYED FUSSING]
Top of the page! Take that, vc7777. :meanie:
Meh....you don't play by the rules...'Twernt Nuthin....🙄
[/DELAYED FUSSING]
I will see you at the big 4000th post for a rematch...only if you agree to fair play!

lol my bad...so what do u call 5th years? super seniors?
No, I'll still just be a senior. It gets kind of confusing, because there's a lot of overlap among third, fourth, and fifth years since everyone's on different schedules. I did my third year rotations during third year, which is why I'm at a fourth year clinical level as well as being a fourth year based on time spent in med school. But my classmates who did research last year are on their third year rotations now, so they still call themselves third years for the purpose of rotations, even though they're actually fourth years. They won't be clinical fourth years until our fifth year. Some of the current fifth years are going to graduate with my class, so I guess they'll technically be sixth years next year, but we're all still seniors....you see what I mean about the confusion. 😛

I think they should just be called MS-5 kinda sounds like MI-5 😎
Yes, that's pretty much what we do. Although it makes things confusing when we're at other institutions. I'll still call myself an MS4 when I go on my away rotations even though I'll officially be an MS5 at that point. It's easier than explaining what an MS5 is every time.

I will see you at the big 4000th post for a rematch...only if you agree to fair play!
All I can say is, may the best poster win. And if not the best poster, then the most devious poster. 😀

Oh, I see how you are!

Well....I don't think the rules are out of the question? You really won't abide by them, will you? I think it would be rather enjoyable to have the posted sit there, at 3998 posts, waiting...for anybody to post ANYTHING...just to get that 4000th post...it would be THAT much sweeter if you did agree to the rules, and still won, don't you think? 😛

Oh, I see how you are!
😀

Well....I don't think the rules are out of the question?
You are perfectly welcome to follow them if you want.

You really won't abide by them, will you?
How many times do I have to say no and flout your rules before you finally believe that I flatly refuse to follow them?

No. I'm just enjoying the idea of seeing my eggplant sitting there next to that number 4000, and you know, I don't really care how it gets there. :meanie:

EDIT: My bad...wasn't trying to come off as a jerk! I have been told by one of my mentor/physicians that it is better to go unmatched in some cases, and that it isn't necessarily a negative thing. I retract the statement.

CCLCMer, will you be telling us if anybody is in The Scramble this year? 😀
It's very unlikely. But having to scramble is not funny, vc7777.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this term, scrambling means that a person who applied for residencies didn't match anywhere. An unmatched applicant is informed of their status on Monday of Match Week. (For this year, that will be tomorrow.) On Tuesday of Match Week, a list of unfilled residency programs is released, and the unmatched applicants can contact these programs in order to obtain a residency. The residency may not be in the specialty the person applied to, or it may not be in a location they like.

The vast majority of American medical grads from all medical schools do match to a residency, and only a relatively small number of people end up having to scramble. None of the CCLCM students who entered the match last year had to scramble. In other words, all of them successfully matched to a residency in their desired specialty.

I think if one person doesn't match the rest of the class should help him/her scramble...I hear there's ridiculous amounts of errands that need to be done for the scramble. Cheers for small class sizes? 😀
