Well, I really meant that you could hear back tomorrow. Oh, it'd be so nice!
Yes, it would be very nice. But I confirmed with Dean Franco that she will definitely NOT make any calls tomorrow. It will be Thursday evening at the earliest.
Does anyone know the importance of interviews at CCLM? I interviewed recently and I know that my student interview did not go well at all.
Interviews are very important, including the student interview. But as we've discussed before on this thread, many people don't have a very good sense of how their interview actually went. A hard interview doesn't necessarily mean the interviewer didn't like you, and an easy one doesn't necessarily mean you did well.
Thanks! Really hoping for some good news!
I'm rooting for you, man.
don't know if this helps at all, but one of my faculty interviewers told me that the way they make decisions is that the adcom (something like 100 people) sit in a room, your picture comes up on a huge screen, and your interviewers stand up and advocate for you. I know the interviewers fill out evaluations after the interview, though, so I'm not sure exactly how it works out- this is just what I was told. How do you know your student interview went so badly?
It's more like two dozen people who vote, not 100. They do display the applicants' pictures to help the adcomms remember them, and the interviewers do fill out evaluations after the interview and then present the applicant to the rest of the adcomm.
yeah mine told me something similar and he added that each member has an electronic wireless device that looks like a "clicker" (for those you have used a clicker in class you'll know what I'm talking about) and they anonymously vote on you using the device following the presentation by the faculty interviewer...sounds pretty high-tech lol
This is all true.
so its only the 2 faculty interviewers who present? i hope so. I don't know it was my second interview and i had my student interview first. I was very nervous. I just got the feeling the student didn't like me from some comments and just didn't seem interested in the interview. oh well i came in knowing the odds of getting in are pretty steep, i could also just be blowing this out of proportion.
No, all three interviewers present for each applicant. If your student interviewer is a student adcomm, they will present your app personally. If your student interviewer is not an adcomm, then one of the student adcomms will present the student interviewer's evaluation.
😱, they could go to war with that many people
Ha, this is CCLCM. We don't need 100 people to go to war when any two or three will argue more than sufficiently!
I guess there should be some sort of pre-screening process before this admission committee meeting because I don't see 100 of people sitting in a room trying to vote 10 out of some 200 students (who've interviewed so far) within 24 hours. This is really intense...intense.
The adcomm meetings every other week are held for exactly this reason. Not all of the interviewees get presented again at the subcommittee meeting.
ok well I don't know FOR SURE if that's how many people are on the adcom. That IS what my interviewer told me, but he could have been- and probably was- exaggerating. It was sort of a lead-in to the next question which was, "What should I tell the committee about you when I stand up in front of them?"
...so take that as you will
There are more than just two dozen people on the adcomm, but they don't all show up for every meeting. About two dozen show up on average. That includes both student and faculty adcomms.
Good luck, everyone! Again, if you don't get in this week, you can still be in the running for January or February.
