Got an interview invite yesterday for CCLCM, was complete about 9/11. Really excited, CCLCM sounded like a great opportunity and was one of my top choices. Now I just need to schedule a date and hope Ohio isn't too cold for me.

Congrats on the invite. I see you're from CA, so you have my full sympathy about the climate. OH is definitely too cold for me. :meanie:

Yeah, do it! We need our very own Case cricket. Hey, maybe vc7777 and his daughter will carve Case's symbol into a cricket!

Some of you might want to check out this article about the Cleveland Clinic in Newsweek.

Besides the fact that it's about this hospital, it's still worth reading anyway. The authors do a great job of explaining how even at CCF, one of the most efficient hospitals in the country, there is still only so much that can be done to cut costs due to the current system of billing multiple insurance companies and other payers. The bit about how we have 1400 billing clerks for 2000 doctors just blows me away. :uhno:

Fantastic article - interesting from a general medicine perspective, not necessarily CCLM

Any one have pre-interview rejection? I know, I have long shot but still haven't hear anything. I was completed first week of Oct. Are they sending rejection at the end?

Can someone pls tell me how the merit scholarships application work once you have been invited to apply for it? Thanks a lot.

I think that may be construed as cruelty to a "lesser" species, so I will do the best I can with my virtual tools instead...:meanie:

Anyone around who's been through the process want to comment on this?

Yeah, I thought so too. It gave me a lot to think about. It's funny, because I started out opposed to any kind of health care reform at the beginning. I'm still not a big fan of the current plans on the table, but I'm more cognizant of the need for some kind of reform now. This article is one of the things I've read that helps highlight some of the issues about why health care reform is important, and what kind of reform we should be thinking about.

Here's another one you might enjoy by Atul Gawande.

Are you asking about CCLCM or UP? I know that CCLCM has been sending out some pre-interview rejections. There were already some people who posted about getting them. I'm not sure what the UP has been doing. Myuu or iceman77_7, do either of you know?

Oh, and carving all those rays of light into a poor, innocent, defenseless eggplant CAN'T be construed as cruelty to a lesser species?

I would hope that the cricket would be dead before it got carved, but you're right. We shouldn't take anything for granted. Therefore, let the virtual branding begin. 😛

I was invited to apply for it, but I don't remember very much about the process. Not only was it quite a while ago, but I have also had to forget a lot of things recently to make room for cramming boards minutiae.

Hey, Myuu, you're a mod! Coolio to youlio. 👍

They have been sending out pre-interview rejections, to the best of my (admittedly limited) knowledge.

Doesn't the UP have an adcomm meeting on Monday? It's going to be a big admissions week for Case!

Yeah I got rejected from UP on the same day I got invited to interview at CCLCM.
That happens sometimes. Some of my classmates were accepted to CCLCM and rejected pre-interview by the UP, and it happens in reverse too (where people get accepted to the UP and rejected pre-interview by CCLCM). The two programs definitely don't always interview or accept the same people.

There was someone else posting on this thread who also said they were invited to CCLCM and rejected by the UP. I can't remember who now.

Let the record show you two have been discussing this without my chiming in...When giant crickets invade from outerspace, I want no part in your discussions of torturing their cousins...Besides...can't someone at Case just genetically engineer a bunch of designer crickets?

An yes, the eggplant carving was so cruel....yet so funny...yet sooooo delicious...

Interviewees from my interview day (12/4) are getting reviewed today! I don't know how I'll survive the next couple days! For that matter, I'd hate to have to deal with more waiting: it's all too easy to imagine myself in suspended animation on the wait list.

Currently sending good vibes to Cleveland...

(The triple post!)

Wow, not just a double post, a TRIPLE post! That's... special!

Sorry folks, I'm new to this whole "posting" thing. 🙄

so it true that the first batch of CCLCM acceptances may be coming out tomorrow or wednesday??

So does after Dec 15th mean I'd be up for consideration if I'm interviewing on Friday....? That would be pretty fantastic....

I just called and they said "sometime after Dec. 15."

So it may not be Wednesday.

And they told me acceptances will go out via regular mail..

thanks for calling and letting us know homoochan! at least i won't be staring at my phone the whole day tomorrow...

Good luck, CCLCMers! I hope you get to join the Case/CCLCM family if you haven't already 😛

You're the engineer, and you have to do a thesis while you're at Case anyway. You do it. Four months should be MORE than enough time for a pro like you to engineer a branded cricket. :meanie:

Nice job. 👍

No. The first subcommittee meeting is tomorrow. They will select around ten people to get the first acceptances. The accepted students will be called by Dean Franco, probably Thursday night because Wednesday is her clinic day.

Wednesday
No, almost certainly NOT Wednesday.

only acceptances come out right? no rejections and waitlists?
Right--only the ten or so accepted people will get a phone call this week. No waitlist gets made until March, so no one will be put on the waitlist for quite a long while. Some post-interview rejections may be sent out over the next month or so, but that will be snail-mail only, and probably not this week. In past years, they have given out the acceptances first.

They will, but Dean Franco will call everyone first. Accepted people will get BOTH a phone call from Dean Franco AND a letter in the mail.

If you're talking about CCLCM, you'd be up for consideration at the January subcommittee meeting.

Good luck, everyone. Remember, if you don't get in this time (and most people won't), you can still be accepted in January or February. Oh, and Cleveland's area code is 216, so answer your phone if you see it!

Hey all,
I'm interviewing at Case tomorrow (visited CCLCM today). I was wondering if the day is set to end at 4PM for everyone or if some people will be done earlier? I ask because I have a flight at 5:35PM and if I'm trying to determine whether or not I'll need a taxi...so far I'm thinking it's very likely lol.

Everyone should finish by 3:30, some finish as early as 2:30. All depends on your personal interview schedule.

I had my interview yesterday. First off, I would like to say, the place is nothing short of amazing. 4+ hospitals for 1 med school? An amazing dean staff? and HUGE support network? What is not to like?

Secondly, I was done at 4pm.

I had a 5:35 flight. It's do-able. But call to check when your day is done. It takes a while (35-40 min) to ride the train to the airport. I arrived with like 20-15 min to spare at the gate. Pretty sure my day was done at around 3:30-4

Does anyone know the importance of interviews at CCLM? I interviewed recently and I know that my student interview did not go well at all.

don't know if this helps at all, but one of my faculty interviewers told me that the way they make decisions is that the adcom (something like 100 people) sit in a room, your picture comes up on a huge screen, and your interviewers stand up and advocate for you. I know the interviewers fill out evaluations after the interview, though, so I'm not sure exactly how it works out- this is just what I was told. How do you know your student interview went so badly?

yeah mine told me something similar and he added that each member has an electronic wireless device that looks like a "clicker" (for those you have used a clicker in class you'll know what I'm talking about) and they anonymously vote on you using the device following the presentation by the faculty interviewer...sounds pretty high-tech lol

so its only the 2 faculty interviewers who present? i hope so. I don't know it was my second interview and i had my student interview first. I was very nervous. I just got the feeling the student didn't like me from some comments and just didn't seem interested in the interview. oh well i came in knowing the odds of getting in are pretty steep, i could also just be blowing this out of proportion.

😱, they could go to war with that many people

I guess there should be some sort of pre-screening process before this admission committee meeting because I don't see 100 of people sitting in a room trying to vote 10 out of some 200 students (who've interviewed so far) within 24 hours. This is really intense...intense. :boom:

ok well I don't know FOR SURE if that's how many people are on the adcom. That IS what my interviewer told me, but he could have been- and probably was- exaggerating. It was sort of a lead-in to the next question which was, "What should I tell the committee about you when I stand up in front of them?"

...so take that as you will

Well, I really meant that you could hear back tomorrow. Oh, it'd be so nice!
Yes, it would be very nice. But I confirmed with Dean Franco that she will definitely NOT make any calls tomorrow. It will be Thursday evening at the earliest.

Interviews are very important, including the student interview. But as we've discussed before on this thread, many people don't have a very good sense of how their interview actually went. A hard interview doesn't necessarily mean the interviewer didn't like you, and an easy one doesn't necessarily mean you did well.

Thanks! Really hoping for some good news! :luck:
I'm rooting for you, man. :luck:

It's more like two dozen people who vote, not 100. They do display the applicants' pictures to help the adcomms remember them, and the interviewers do fill out evaluations after the interview and then present the applicant to the rest of the adcomm.

This is all true.

No, all three interviewers present for each applicant. If your student interviewer is a student adcomm, they will present your app personally. If your student interviewer is not an adcomm, then one of the student adcomms will present the student interviewer's evaluation.

😱, they could go to war with that many people
Ha, this is CCLCM. We don't need 100 people to go to war when any two or three will argue more than sufficiently!

The adcomm meetings every other week are held for exactly this reason. Not all of the interviewees get presented again at the subcommittee meeting.

ok well I don't know FOR SURE if that's how many people are on the adcom. That IS what my interviewer told me, but he could have been- and probably was- exaggerating. It was sort of a lead-in to the next question which was, "What should I tell the committee about you when I stand up in front of them?"

There are more than just two dozen people on the adcomm, but they don't all show up for every meeting. About two dozen show up on average. That includes both student and faculty adcomms.

Good luck, everyone! Again, if you don't get in this week, you can still be in the running for January or February.

That does sound intense.

For today's UP interviewees:

If after meeting Dr. Haynie and disembarking from the elevator(s), you were faced by a dazed, all-green-scrubbed MS1 who said "...good morning," you have seen me. Sorry I wasn't more awake.😳

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand the med school linebacker skit is up on ze youtubes! This one has been done by every other med school in the country, but, of course, I 😍 our version.

He puts some pretty good hits on people!

Good stuff.

Do many people on hold get interview invitations? Also, because I'm on hold, would it be appropriate to send an update letter?
