I think they tell you that it's definitely for everyone and I appreciated that they let people know instead of being like PBL >> or we lect're and we better during the interview day.
I think you meant that we told you this school definitely WASN'T for everyone. 😀

So seriously, that's true. I do think there are students in my program who would have been happier in a more traditional curriculum with tests and grades, and maybe also a school that provides a syllabus or online lectures where you can go spend every day studying at Starbucks (or at home in your pajamas!). This isn't the kind of program where you can sit in the back of a lecture hall and just veg. Students are expected to attend all seminars as well as PBL sessions, and participate actively. Even though we don't have tests and grades, it's still med school, and it's still a lot of work.

A lot of you guys are going to have multiple schools to choose among, and it's important to be honest with yourself about what is the best learning environment for you. If you don't buy into the CCLCM curriculum, you really won't be happy here.

Do you guys know if CCLCM is still giving out interviews?
I would really like one.
The official word is that there are still a few more to give out. Good luck!

I had one more question- since you have anatomy all year, does the topic in your anatomy class directly relate to what you are learning in your seminars/PBL?
Yes. We actually have anatomy for two years, and the sessions correlate with the organ blocks during second year also.

I'm having trouble finding hosts for UP and CCLCM...no one seems to be replying. Sent emails to 2 or 3 CCLCM and about 5 to UP, and have waited for up to a week for some.

Are students still on break or in the middle of exams? I can't find the academic calendars Or am I asking too soon or expecting a reply too quickly? (Interviewing at the end of the month)

Worst case scenario is hotel right? $60 a night is not bad compared to prices in other cities...but considering that 2 nights in a hotel is the cost of my plane ticket... :\
If you want, PM me your interview dates and gender, and I'll see what I can do.

haha...

The 'give me your dates and gender' sounds funny for some reason...

As for CCLCM, someone I talked to there once told me it is similar to a full-time job. For me, that's really appealing. I could see where that would be a 'non-starter' for many applicants.

Personally, I believe the required classes, PBLs, etc., besides being more in-line with my learning style, is a small price to pay for the opportunities afforded the students.

My $0.01 (cost of living is low in 'The Cleve')

Interview invite today, this officially breaks my "Schools don't send out interviews on thursdays" myth.

I completed application 12/15, which I hope gives some hope to the rest of you late applicants out there.

Interviews dates open all through feb

If you are on waitlist after interview, when do you get re-evaluated?
Do the admission committee get together in Jan and accept some from the waitlist? or do we have to wait until March?

Got a CCLCM interview invite yesterday so at least they are still sending some out. Submitted on 12/15 so I was surprised to still get it. I'm very excited to check out the school and program. I scheduled the interview for 2/22 & 2/23. They only had these days and 2/18 & 2/19 available for back to back interviews so it looks like it's coming down to the wire.

alright, who's the person that likes to make travel plans

i just booked a 6 night trip to Lima, Peru. flight was $270 roundtrip with tax and fees, hotel was another $30 for 6 nights total. (flight to machu picchu is another $200 from lima though)

your turn!

*yawn* Just helped my friend booked a 5 day roundtrip for 2 passengers from California to Maui in first class for $210 total for the both of them. *bows* 😀

I will leave a disclaimer here stating that this was the result of a combination of research, luck, incompetence by the airlines, and upgrades.

I paid 300 for one ticket, economy, from Philly to Cleveland....Why must you hurt me!

If we interviewed mid-december at CCLCM does anyone know when we should expect an admission decision?

No call. I was actually really nervous when I saw the email notifying me of a "status change" since I didn't get a call from Case lol. I interviewed 12/14.🙂

Now to wait for CCLCM to get back to me.....

Good luck to those of you still waiting!

Can you get a rejection without ever being waitlisted after being on hold post interview?

I think you can, but I'm not sure.

You must, must, must help me with booking interview travel. Promise me!

The next subcommittee meeting is scheduled for January 26, so the soonest you would hear about an acceptance would be later that week. Dean Franco will call everyone who gets accepted. There are apparently some post-interview rejections that will be going out soon too. Those will come by snail mail.

Can you get a rejection without ever being waitlisted after being on hold post interview?
Yes. Most people who get rejected post-interview are not waitlisted first.

Congrats on the UP acceptance, and good luck for CCLCM!

Boo snail mail :<

Oh, ominous check iapply page email, I love how thee have acceptance letters in there.

So, out of curiosity, does CCLCM make offers in 3 groups of ~10? My interview is on Jan 25th and feel like I won't be in the meeting on the 26th, I assume they hold a couple spots open?

Also, anyone going to be at CCLCM on the 25th or Case on 26th? Hopefully see some of you there!

Thanks for being so helpful CCLCMer! I wonder if I saw you when I interviewed.

OMG that was an amazing experience!!! I couldn't have been happier.
I've been buried under things this week and just finished my second interview, but now I can emerge and join the party here!

My interview day was so relaxed, comfortable, and I learned tons. The students are SO supportive - it truly impressed me. I love that there's no class ranking. You can see there's a camaraderie between everyone going at the same goal. It felt amazing.

And staying with my student host was AWESOME! It was the most fun I'd had in ages. She really went out of her way for me, lavished me with information and grape juice, showed me a million things, pwned me (just a little!) on the Wii, and even gave me her bed. And she trudged through the neck-high snow with me from the RTA station. lol Thank you so much to those here who helped hook me up with her! 😀

I am hoping and praying that I get a happy letter shortly after Jan 21st-ish. Even though it was my first interview of several, it set a high standard that I doubt the others will come close to touching. My interview at KU yesterday was good, but nothing compared to Case.

I gotta say, coming out of the interview I was convinced that I would drop any other school if I got an acceptance at CCLCM. Both my faculty interviewers and the student interviewer were all quite friendly and enthusiastic about the school and the Clinic in general. I realllllly hope I get a call at the end of January.
EXACTLY how I feel! Although it almost would seem I'd be just grabbing at my first "yes," it'd just be that the best happened to have been first!

:xf:!

congratulations to all of you who have gotten interviewed and those who have also gotten accepted. Could you guys please give interview feedback? Its very helpful but the CCLCM section has very few entries...i interview end of january and need all the help i can get
Will do!

A/S/L?
Or am I both dating and nerding myself by posting that?
Nerding, yes. Dating, no--because then I'd also be dating myself.
It's the "dating myself" part that sounds a bit weird. And lol on the A/S/L - good ol' days with a 56kbps modems and laggy mIRC...tho that dates me older than you both 😛

A n00b Q here, do I send my thank-you letters to the interviewers "c/o admissions office" or how do I find out their actual office/mailbox???

...and wtf do you write in them? Everything sounds a little cheesy. I don't want to rock the boat if they loved me lol

Well, there's no good way to get a rejection, you know? 🙁

So, out of curiosity, does CCLCM make offers in 3 groups of ~10?
Yes.

You might be considered on the 26th, but if not, you'll be considered at the third meeting in February.

Thanks for being so helpful CCLCMer! I wonder if I saw you when I interviewed.
It's possible. If you were willing to tell me when you interviewed, we could try to figure it out. 🙂

If you have their contact info, I'd send it directly so that it won't get lost or misdirected.

Went to Cleveland Institute of Art today, as part of our grand tour of Cleveland...No joke, the first painting I see in the first gallery we go into is by Max Ernst:

The eggplant obviously represents CWRU...I'm not sure what the flounder represents...can anybody help me out?

Thank you so much to those here who helped hook me up with her! *wink wink nudge nudge say no more* 😀

I'm pretty sure that hooking up with your host means an automatic acceptance. 😎

i believe cclcm has two acceptance dates, 16 first time, 16 the other time

and they've already done their first 16

Obviously, it means that flounder and eggplant is a delectable dish, the official food of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. In fact, it makes a party in your mouth. See here.

Depends on who your host is. ;-)

No, it has always been three acceptance dates with ~10 people accepted each time. (There were 12 people accepted last month.) The second date is coming up in a few weeks.

I have an interview for the college program on Monday but this is what happened today. flew from NYC to Cincinati only to find that the flight to Cleveland was canceled due to power outrage/flooding at the Cleveland airport, so no flight could get into Cleveland. The next flight (and the last flight) to Cleveland was full, and there were so many people on Standby. Plus they don't expect the airport to be fixed by tonight. There is no flight tomorrow morning early enough for me to get to my interviews. So I took a flight back to NYC. Ahhhhhhh. Maybe I am not meant to come to Cleveland....take it as a sign....🙁

Yea...I was planning to fly into Cleveland tomorrow afternoon, but now I'm worried, and don't know if I'm even going to be able to fly in!

Thanks CCLCMer!

I'll be there for CCLCM on the 22nd. Hopefully they fix all that airport nonsense and it doesn't snow again!

Myuu, you took your hat off!
What program do you use to mess with animated gifs?

*Completely unrelated to CWRU*

A transformer that supplies power to the airport exploded this morning. Most flights before 6 PM were cancelled. Operations should be back to normal now, but there will be a backlog of passengers that need to be cleared.

oh yea when i called for my interview, the lady asked me if I was interested in attending a minority informational workshop at the end of the interview day or something, and i said ok. has anyone been to it? what exactly is it, and does it affect your decision at all? (I am an international student from Nigeria)

Got the good news Friday Jan 8th via email to check my status page. Interviewed mid-Dec. I'm so excited!! Good luck to everyone else!

Oh, I had Depakote put that hat on for me, but I suspect he uses photoshop.

Thanks! To celebrate I'm watching the "Cleveland" episode of 30 Rock. Who wouldn't want to "flee to the Cleve?"

Sorry, guys. 🙁

If you haven't already, you should call the respective admissions offices and let them know what happened. Hopefully you can reschedule for another day. I don't remember when the UP is interviewing until, but CCLCM has added a couple of extra weeks at the end of February.

I'll be there for CCLCM on the 22nd. Hopefully they fix all that airport nonsense and it doesn't snow again!
As far as I know, everything is fine now.

It's just a chance for you to meet with other minority students (and sometimes faculty) and ask questions about minority life. It doesn't affect your decision at all--it's solely for your benefit. If you're interested in meeting some minority students, you should go.

No more CCLCM acceptances will go out before the end of the month.
