Just received an interview for the UP program - scheduled for Feb 8th! Totally unexpected (especially because I was not complete until Dec 7th). Are there still spots open/when does Case interview until?

So living in Cleveland I got to experience flying out on Sunday from CLE. I show up at 6:30a to the airport, there are literally 0 lights on. I walk in and there is about a million people (perhaps, a slight exaggeration) all waiting on line. After sitting there for about 30 minutes, they finally made an announcement. "All power is out, we don't know why. However, we were told it would be up and running by 10a." Little did I know. The road salts got into the generator of an off-site facility and "exploded". This by its self would not have been really bad but while it exploded it caught a wooden pole next to it on fire (which I am assuming burnt down).

Because of this they couldn't re-route power. My 8:30a flight now became a 8:30p flight. I eventually got out (and they are back to normal now), and was able to make my interview on Monday.

I was looking to see how expensive it would have been to go to Columbus or Akron / Canton, however they are 2.5 and 1.5 hours away respectively.

Quite the experience to say the least.

If you were deferred after interview, when do you get re-evaluated?
Do we get the result by end of Jan or do we have to wait until march when most accepted ppl decide whether they will attend or withdraw the acceptance?

I'm in the same boat as you. As far as I know they only START reviewing holds in January. Which, to me, means that it could be a long time before they get to your file or mine, especially if they review holds in chronological order.

This is, however, outright speculation on my part, with a goodly portion of not-getting-my-hopes-up thrown in for good measure. Can anyone with more expertise comment?

with so much snow, is there by chance good mountains around as well for skiing?

Well, there is the ever-popular Mount Cleveland...

At work today, my wife received the second issue of the new Cleveland Clinic Bioethics Newsletter, Bioethics Reflections. It's completely coincidental that my wife got it. But it is indeed well written and thought-provoking yet easy to consume in a short time (it's only 7 pages long). You guys might want to check it out:

When is CCLCM supposed to be doing another round of acceptances?

I'm going to go ahead and jinx it and say that it hasn't snowed yet today, and the sun is out.

Bring it, mother nature!

It burrrrrrrrrrrrns.😱

Re: skiing, there are a couple of places in ohio that offer a hill that is snow-covered, but Pittsburgh and its environs aren't that far away.

any chance one of the med students could answer this for us? im wondering the same thing

I was placed on hold 9/28 and just received an interview invite last night. I haven't even been keeping up with this thread since I kinda filed them away after the hold. How long after an interview do ppl usually get accepted/rejected?

takes typically a couple weeks. 2-3. i interviewed oct 9 and heard oct 21

Anyone know when they will start to look at POST INTERVIEW Holds? I know this isnt about Eggplant, but hopefully someone will show mercy and post something! ;p

Oh boy, we are sooooooo screwed. 🙁

Thanks for posting that link. 👍

Eric Kodish (the chair of the CCF bioethics dept) is a great guy. He is a peds heme/onc specialist who got into bioethics. Also, he is very involved with teaching med students, and I've even gone over to his house for dinner a few times. Anthony Thomas (author of the article on gender selection) is a retired urologist who focuses on ethics now. He was one of my FCM preceptors last year, and he's a really great guy also. (FCM is Case's humanities/social sciences in medicine course.)

The next subcommittee meeting is January 26.

I'm sorry, but I don't think any of the UP students know. 🙁

Congrats on your invite. 😀

Again, I don't think anyone really knows. It's not that they're ignoring your non-eggplant posts.

Hang in there, guys. It's only a couple more weeks now. :luck:

Here's a thought... On my way back from the gym today, saw a car with a license plate that read "CASE". ALSO, a few weeks ago, saw a BodyWorlds exhibit at my school's science library (slices of a man in resin), with a board saying donated by Cleveland Clinic (somewhat random in my neck of the woods too). Is it a sign from the CCLCM admission Gods? I hope so, but probably not...

Morning, everyone. I'm not really a fan of being on the second page, so here we are.

I'd love to answer the questions about re-review of people on hold, but I have no idea. 😳

Hey guys,

I've gotten several PMs asking about sending updates and letters of interest/intent, so I thought I would just write a post so that I don't have to tell everyone the same thing individually!

1) Should you send an update?
Yes, if you have anything significant to tell the adcomm about. Some examples would include your fall semester grades (if they're good!), any papers or posters that have been accepted or published, or any significant new ECs. You can still update the adcomm about posters or manuscripts that have been submitted but not accepted yet, but that will not be nearly as impressive as if they were already accepted. So make sure you update the adcomm again after your paper or poster is accepted.

2) What about sending a letter of interest or letter of intent?
First, the difference between a letter of interest and a letter of intent is that a letter of interest means that you really liked the school, but it implies no commitment. In contrast, a letter of intent means that you are promising that you will withdraw from your other schools and come to CCLCM if you are accepted here. Sending letters of interest is not really helpful, although it won't hurt you to send one either. Sending a letter of intent CAN be helpful, but mainly only if you are waitlisted in the spring. Dean Franco does take a letter of intent into account when she selects people from the waitlist. Again, it won't hurt if you want to send a letter of intent now, but it won't really help at this point, either.

3) Who do you send the update or letter to?
Dean Franco. She will put it in your file and can tell the adcomm about it in future meetings.

4) When will post-interview letters start coming out?
First, it bears repeating that CCLCM does NOT send out any information via Iapply. Those of you who applied to both UP and CCLCM will find out about your UP status from Iapply, but you will get your final decision from CCLCM via a snail mail letter.

For those of you who were accepted to CCLCM last month, the acceptance letters were still not sent out as of yesterday, but they should be going out today or Monday. Just sign the letter when it comes and send it back in order to hold your place in the class. No deposit is required.

For those of you who are still waiting to hear about your post-interview status, around ten more people will get an acceptance in about two weeks (after the next subcommittee meeting on 1/26). You will get a phone call from Dean Franco if you are accepted, followed by a snail mail acceptance letter. Again, sign the form and return it to hold your place in the class.

There will also be some post-interview rejection letters going out within the next week or two. Again, these will be by snail mail.

If you do not get a letter, it means that you are still on post-interview hold, and your file will be up for consideration again at the next subcommittee meeting.

5) Other questions not answered here?
Feel free to post them here, PM me, or call the admissions office. I will tell you though that our admissions office is seriously backlogged right now. So if you could avoid calling them unless it's absolutely necessary, they will be able to spend more time getting everything sent out.

Hope this helps clear some things up, and good luck to everyone who is waiting. :xf:

i'm really confused by all of this information. i heard from a reliable source that there was a subcommitee meeting yesterday on 1/14. do u know about this cclcmer?

i'm not saying anyone on this forum is wrong. i'm just asking if u guys would know anything about this.

Reliable source?!

I don't know much...but CCLCMer?! He's been spot on every time as far as I can tell. 😉

There was an adcomm meeting yesterday, but it was one of the regular biweekly Thursday meetings, not a subcommittee meeting. These Thursday meetings are held throughout the app season. The adcomm uses the Thursday meetings to rank applicants, but no admissions decisions are made at those meetings. Applicants who score well enough at their Thursday meeting review are then considered for a second time at the subcommittee meetings, which are special adcomm meetings held solely to select the applicants who will be admitted. This year's subcommittee meetings have been scheduled for the last Tuesdays in December, January and February. Again, these three Tuesday subcommittee meetings are the ONLY adcomm meetings where acceptees are selected.

i'm interviewing this monday for cclcm (1/18)- was wondering if you knew if i would be considered at the january subcomittee meeting or if i will have to wait till february

It's possible that anyone who interviews up until and including January 25 could be considered at the January 26 subcommittee meeting.

So do you know the date of the final adcom meeting? I interview on jan 29th right after the january meeting, would it be the last tuesday in february?

The last subcommittee meeting was originally scheduled for February 16, but it will probably get moved to the end of February since CCLCM's interview season was extended by a couple of weeks. I'll let you guys know as soon as the date of the third subcommittee is finalized.

Thanks for the info, this is really good stuff. If you don't score high enough at this biweekly meeting to make it to the subcommittee meeting, does that mean an auto rejection or just a deferral to the next subcommittee meeting? Or does it vary?

All I can tell you for sure is that people who score below a certain cutoff at the Thursday meetings will get rejected without going to the subcommittee. This cutoff is not hard and fast from year to year, which is why it takes a while for post-interview rejections to start going out. I'm not sure whether the same cutoff is used to decide who gets considered at the next subcommittee meeting, or if there are two cutoffs (i.e., one for rejections and one for subcommittee consideration) with some people in the middle left on hold for consideration at subsequent meetings. Sorry, I don't think that I really answered your question. 😳

Hey, Myuu, you should have seen my slaloming today. It was par excellence. I've even started working on going backwards, and best of all, no faceplants so far!

so for those of us who are going to have our interviews before the last adcom meeting in february and after the january meeting, it is decided there and then, and there is no post interview hold because thats the last round of acceptances right?

Ah.... back to worrying then. Any idea how much your application affects your score, vs your interviews?

No, there won't be a hold anymore once all the interviews are done, but you could still be waitlisted.

You can't separate it out like that, because there isn't a set amount that each part is weighted. The adcomm considers your entire app holistically.

I don't think you need to worry too much about your application, because if it wasn't strong enough, you wouldn't have gotten an invite to interview, right? But if you're asking whether a bad interview can tank an awesome app, the answer is yes. Both Case programs care a lot about fit, and fit is especially important for CCLCM since the classes are so small and we do so much work in small groups.

Luckily, I was more concerned about my application tanking my interview, hooray!

Awesome! 😀 I have learned to do some sort of whacked out almost-but-not-quite half-scissor... thing. It's the thing I was trying before, only with me not breaking/spraining/???ing anything.👍

Luckily, I was more concerned about my application tanking my interview, hooray!
Well, of course it's always possible that something will come up in the adcomm meeting that didn't come up during the initial screening. But I don't think that would happen as often since both faculty interviewers and the screener have already read your file thoroughly before the whole adcomm reviews you. Anyway, try not to worry about it if you can, because it's out of your hands now. Good luck. :xf:

Next week you will have to show me. You are the bomb. :boom:

(Love that smiley!)

I love that smiley too...it's a very stressed out little smiley.

I also love CCLCMer! (And Myuu too)
Here's a happy smiley for you (I like this one too)::biglove:

I like that one, too. Since you love sleep, of course you get this one: 😴

😀

Who ever knew you had such thread vanity? Unlike you, vc7777, I actually have something useful to say. TWO useful things, as a matter of fact. :meanie:

The first thing is that CCLCM acceptance and post-interview rejection letters have gone out and are being received. Again, if you don't get a letter within the next few days, it means that the adcomm is still considering you (basically like being on post-interview hold).

The second thing is that there is an extra Thursday adcomm review meeting this week (not the normal week they are held). So it looks like everyone who interviews up to and including this Thursday (1/21) will definitely be in time to be considered at the subcommittee meeting on 1/26. I am not sure about the people who interview on Friday 1/22 and Monday 1/25, but I will see what I can find out about that.

Ok, I am out of news for now. Good luck to everyone who is waiting to hear something. :xf:

Blerg, and here I was thinking I'd get a fast response. Godspeed CCLCMer, find out about us 1/22 interviewees.

Has anyone heard decisions from UP after being placed on post-interview hold? Do any current Case students know if they have started to re-review hold applications, or have sent new decisions out to applicants on hold? I know they often start re-reviewing in January.

😕 😱 😕 😱 Letters for both rejections and acceptances?
