what do you guys think my chances are if i submit my secondary?

3.45 gpa and science gpa
34Q mcat

lots of medically related experiences
lots of leadership experiences
a hospital research project
a neuroscience thesis project
2 research assistant positions in industry
currently an Emergency Department volunteer
currently conducting HepC research at Tulane Medical School
currently enrolled in a one-year masters program at Tulane.

your mcat is solid, but as you probably know your gpa is slightly low, which might make it a little bit of an uphill battle. however, don't be deterred, even when just considering your stats alone, I think you still have a chance and it looks like you have some good ECs too. So if your LORs and essays are equally as strong, I say definitely give it a shot! good luck, man!

i'll do it then!

I agree with OMSTR. Your stats are already great. I'm just the opposite. Solid 4.0 GPA with a lower tier MCAT (30Q). So I have less chance than you by MCAT alone. (And the fact that my college is outside America, my chances are EVEN lower).

Oh and I volunteer at my hospital's emergency department, too! Glad to see someone who volunteers in the ER. (But with the H1N1 in Taiwan... students aren't allowed there anymore and I have to undergo full time volunteer training for 3 months before I'm allowed there.) I have little research experience though, except for a biostatistics thing, which I forgot to write. I also volunteer at Tzu-Chi, not sure if anyone's heard of it, but it's a great place.

Good luck with yours. I'll say you have a much greater chance than me. If only I didn't get that 9 on my verbal reasoning... Bleh...

Anyone know when Dartmouth interviews until? Or when they give out invites until?

hey so I applied last night!
called in today and the lady in admissions was really nice
i have to say it was the nicest phonecall i have ever made to an admissions office. im below the 10th percentile of the GPA they accept! but i hope they still like me :$

btw, they accept a lot of internationals! i wouldn't be worried if i were you about the international status. i'm an international as well.

Do they review applicants in the order of complete-ness? Or otherwise?

Invite!!!!!!!!!
I am so happy.
Complete 9/20.
interview dates in early december.
Stats slightly above dartmouth averages.

Also got an invite today! I was complete way earlier on 7/30. So don't lose hope everyone if you were complete early.

Thanks for giving me hope! And I love the Buster Bluth picture.

good to know! I was complete in early august but my 2nd mcat scores didn't come out until early october - looks like a few more weeks of waiting....

is it p/f the first two years?

From what I remember Dartmouth just switch to pass/fail starting this year.

I submitted in July and was complete around then and JUST heard back for an interview! there is hope, after all.

you guys know if its a good idea to apply to dartmouth for early decision? (next cycle).

No, there's no complete email from Dartmouth. I completed the secondary and send my money 9/20.

Don't apply early, it doesn't make sense, rather apply everywhere in July if you can. If you are a competitive applicant and you applied to rollong school, youc an get a decision on oct 15, thats only 2 weeks after early decision is released.

has dartmouth rejected anyone yet? i was complete way back in mid july and was just curious since i never heard anything from them since...

I feel like they are one of those schools that might have already "Rejected" apps, but won't let anyone know until March...

I remember they sent out a pre-interview rejection to someone on this forum a few weeks ago.

For those of us still waiting - there is hope! I was complete in mid-July and I JUST got an interview invite!

congrats! i submitted everything in july and got an invite this week as well, so there's definitely still hope🙂

In what way did these interviews come? Email? Phone call?

Email. You have to call to schedule but they give you a choice of some dates. Mine were early-mid December and all Tuesdays.

They interview tues and thurs. If I remember correctly it was every thurs and every other tues.

Congrats you two!!! This makes me feel better about their silence towards me 🙂

Hey yeah! Congrats to both of ya! I'm wishing the best for both of ya!

My status is like... "Your DMS secondary application has been received and is in process." Is that the same as "under review"?

Oh and hi MedHearter! So glad to see a fellow international! Em... do they offer phone interviews? Because I live in Taiwan, and I have to fly all the way over there for an interview. International flights are expensive these days. =/

Hey guys, I'm coming from the West Coast and not too familiar with transportation around New England. So there is a Greyhound from Boston-Manchester to campus? Is that the best way to get to campus? Are there Greyhounds to campus from any other Boston/New England airports?

The best way is to fly to Boston-Logan and take the Dartmouth Coach. http://www.dartmouthcoach.com/

Hey going along with the the poster two posts ago, I am also unfamiliar with the New England area. I have an interview in New York City the day before my Dartmouth interview. What is the best way to get to the school after my interview as fast and cheap as possible.

Dartmouth Coach from the Yale club in NYC to the Hanover Inn on campus.

this is a sweet bus, btw. wifi and big seats. but call ahead and make a reservation, they fill up fast, especially when undergrads are heading home or back to Dartmouth (say for thanksgiving or christmas)

Awesome. I got an invite. I'm just confused as to how to get to dartmouth? Should I fly into boston? Are there any shuttles? Whats the easiest way?

Does anyone know if they offer overnight hosts?

This might sound like a really stupid question but here goes.

I have an interview at Case the day before my interview in mid December at Dartmouth and I'm flying into Boston Logan or Manchester around 10pm-ish, so I am going to miss the last Dartmouth Coach bus, so that leaves me I guess with one option which is to rent a car and drive. What kind of car should I rent? Is driving with a compact or economy okay or do I have to rent like an SUV? I'm from CA so I'm not used to driving on winter roads but the Office of Admissions told me that the roads are normally well kept.

My parents are saying that I should get an SUV but I'm thinking that I'm by myself and it cost a lot more - is a compact/economy okay or should I go with the SUV?

dude you'll be fine with a compact. unless there is a blizzard the roads up are fine. Just drive more slowly than in CA (ie actually go 65, not 80). I mean, if you literally crap out money then sure, go for an SUV, but a compact will be fine - I lived in Hanover for 4 years and did fine in my little nissan.

Has Dartmouth sent out any pre-interview rejections?

Ha. I was wrong and right, all at the same time. Just got a rejection e-mail from them (pre-interview). Was actually debating withdrawing as I realized I really need to be in a city. Guess they beat me to the punch.

Best wishes to everyone else waiting to hear a good word from Dartmouth!!

I'm sorry you were rejected. If you don't mind me asking, when were you complete?

Idk the exact date, but I was complete as early as possible (i.e. primary submitted day 1 and turned the secondary around in like 48hrs). No skin off my nose though

[Random] I also interviewed at Case right before DMS. [/Random]

Fly into Manchester, not Boston. Driving in snow is bad but driving in Boston is WAY worse. Plus, Manchester is only about an hour from Hanover and it's interstate highway pretty much the entire way. In early-mid December chances are that it will be cold but there won't be too much (there probably won't be any) snow. The roads will be well plowed and salted if there is snow. So, I'd be fine with a compact car.

I'm from Oregon and went to college in California (so no snow driving experience) and it's been fine living in NH with a '99 Honda Accord, so you definitely don't need an SUV. If it is snowing, drive slowly and leave PLENTY of stopping distance.

If it's WAY below freezing (around 0 F), be aware that the roads may have black ice on them and you could momentarily lose traction (unlikely, but possible). If this happens, it won't matter if you're in a SUV (SUVs help with traction in snow, not ice): take your foot off of the gas and DON'T slam on the brakes. If you start to skid, steer in the direction of the skid. Honestly, though, this is my fourth winter and I've never had to deal with this.

So, to conclude my rambling post: My opinion is that you should fly into Manchester and rent a small car. If it's snowing (or there's snow on the ground) or really cold, leave plenty of room between you and the other cars. Since you'll be driving at night, watch out for moose on the road (not kidding). You'll be fine.

especially about the moose. seriously.

oh and if you do fly into manchester, you could also check out the greyhound bus out of there - they have weirder schedules than the dartmouth coach

Hey for the greyhound bus, does it come out of the airport? - like where do we board if we do greyhound?
