interview invite! I had almost given up hope because I submitted my secondary in mid-august and had not heard back from them for so long. I sent in a letter of intent and update letter about a week ago; maybe that helped?

The possible dates for me were 21st, Feb 2nd, and Feb 11. I'm on a rush to buy a plane ticket and dartmouth coach tickets before jan 21st.

Don't worry about the Dartmouth coach tix.

And cool, see you there on the 21st.

Does Dartmouth have any strong research focuses? I tried looking on the site, but I'm not too sure. Is it better that I just downplay my research and play up community stuff in the interview?

Check out their view book (http://dms.dartmouth.edu/admissions/pdf/viewbook_2009.pdf). If I remember correctly from looking at that, they do talk about how research is a strong part of the school. If the link doesn't work, its on the top of their Admissions home page.

I bet it wouldn't hurt to ask about it in your interviews as well, I know I have a hard time thinking of good questions to ask that aren't so specific that the MD i'm talking to won't know the answer. I would think that most would know how their school is with research.

My student host said that there is great research going on, but you have to ask for it. The faculty/curriculum doesn't push you (a la Pitt, for example).

Anyway, lots of people like to go home during the summer between Year 1 & 2 (since the school is so far away from "home")...so you're better off looking for solid research opportunities near home.

Just my $0.02

PM me if you want to share a rental car from Manchester airport tomorrow. I arrive about 4:30 pm.

Anyone sent in a post-interview Letter of Interest/Update Letter?

If so, did you use email or snail mail?

Got rejected pre-interview today; it was my second rejection in 24 hours🙁 I'm pretty disappointed--I really liked Dartmouth. Oh well, best of luck to everyone else who's still in the game.

Two rejections in 24 hours? That's brutal.

Same here...

Same here...

Don't take my word for it, but I believe that some decisions have already been made on people who have been complete in the September to October, at least based on what I've read in this thread. I'm in the same boat, I was complete mid-October, and haven't heard anything nor seen any change on my status page.

Good luck to all of you who are still waiting, hopefully you'll hear something good soon! 🙂

It came through an email. I was complete in late September at Dartmouth.

Congrats! It's good to hear they're still considering people from the summer.

Does anyone know when Dartmouth is going to begin sending out waves of acceptances?

I was under the impression that January was when they began to fill a majority of the class. Maybe they have already, who knows.

Interviewed in Septemeber and waiting for a decision.

Thanks!

Ok ok. I know this sounds bad, but they just handed me a pre-interview rejection, and it was the funniest opening to a rejection I've ever read:

"Dear BBender716,

I am writing to share what I believe will be disappointing news. The Admissions Committee of Dartmouth Medical School has considered with care your application for admission. Unfortunately we are unable to offer you a place in our next entering class.

We very much appreciate the time and effort you have spent crafting and compiling your application, and the interest you have shown in DMS. Our small entering class size dictates that we must limit our acceptances to a frustratingly small proportion of those seeking acceptance here. I can assure you that your application was considered with thoroughness and care despite this disappointing outcome.

We do hope that you will find the opportunities you seek for medical school and beyond, and appreciate the chance we have had to learn something about you.

Sincerely,
X"

the rest of it was really kind, but damn, you think it will be disappointing news? It's a pretty good bet, lol

Sorry about the rejection. Did it come via email or snail mail?

Edit: probably stupid question since its highly unlikely that you typed out that letter verbatim, I am going to assume that it was via email.

via email, lol don't be sorry, I'm glad it's happened after having some success instead of right off the bat. Best of luck to everyone here! Hanover is beautiful!

So I received a background check email today from AMCAS and this is the only school that I am waiting to hear from (interviewed in early december)...has anyone else gotten this email before news from Dartmouth this month?

Also, does anyone know if the background check always comes before the acceptance. I was accepted to a school on the background check list in November, but did not get a background check request until now. Just wondering if the check can come after the acceptance.

This is just my experience, but I didn't get a background check until I had an acceptance.

I got the same email (and also laughed at "what I believe..." well duh), and my letters and everything were in early Sept.

Yeah I've been wondering the same; I've been complete since August 24th. No email, no snail mail, no status change...

Congrats on the invite Rockymhs and sorry about the
waitlist redrower!

Email or snail mail? Sorry to hear the news, maybe you'll get in later!

waitlisted today too-via email. anyone have any info on how many people are on the waitlist? they said the number accepted from it ranges from a few to a few dozen but they didn't say how many are on it total.

Uh oh. I got no such email. I wonder if an acceptance or a rejection will be waiting for me at home? I guess I do the only thing I can at this point: wait.

No school today or tomorrow due to the weather, and an intervew invitation from Dartmouth in my inbox... What an amazing day! I'm so excited!!!!

Now to figure out the best way to get there from Dallas... Any suggestions?

you'll probably have to fly. boston logan then greyhound or lebanon hanover municipal and taxi/shuttle/host

I think I'm done for the interview season, but I would totally go to a Dartmouth interview if invited. (hint hint Dartmouth) 🙄

hey guys! does anyone know if dartmouth sends out pre-interview rejections? i am in love with this school, but by now, i have a feeling that it's late to claim an interview spot. eh. got to stay optimistic!

I think you still have a good shot because the interview season at Dartmouth lasts till April, and Dartmouth also hands out pre-interview rejection.

If you sent in your secondary long time ago (like in August), you are likely to be in a competitive position for an interview.

I got an interview invite for Feb just few days ago, and I sent my secondary back in August.

Haha... thanks... I was not planning on driving... lol. I was just worried that plane tickets would be amazingly expensive and I'd have to have 2+ connecting flights/bus/rental car, but I found a flight from Dallas--> Boston --> Lebanon for a great price so it's all booked. I am pretty excited to say the least.

Sunshining, rockymhs is right, if you sent in your app somewhat early/middle of the road and haven't been rejected, you probably have a good chance. I got my complete email August 24th and was invited for an interview on Jan 28th.

Is the beginning of October considered middle? I haven't heard anything yet and would really love an interview here.

Hey LRAccord624, when are you interviewing at Dartmouth?

That's good to know. I've actually been complete since July and have not heard anything. Either I am at the bottom of the pile and they just haven't gotten to me, or I've still got a fighting chance at an interview... hopefully the latter...
