Waitlisted...... Found a lot of things out, but got the official letter today also. Should be interesting.
Anybody know if all these people who are getting the waitlist/alternate list letter, does that mean up until now that it wasn't a waitlist? I actually got rejected a week or two ago, and just wondering "how far" I made it. I thought they said that if you didn't hear anything, that you were on the waiting list, but I might be wrong.
Does anyone know which campuses have the best/worst STEP scores? Are some better than others or are they all pretty similar?
Regional campuses usually have higher scores on NBME finals and on Step 1 in general. There are certain campuses which I think tend to do even better, but this is probably somewhat dependent on the class characteristics.
At my interview, I spoke with them about the subject of Step 1 score variation between campuses. Straight from the horse's mouth, they said that there is very very little variation between sites, but recently the regional sites have on the whole scored slightly better. I believe Muncie had the highest average score last cycle, though I don't remember what it was.
Regardless, I don't really think that Step scores are a very good criterion for the quality of one's campus assignment, when the variation between sites is so small.
Been a while since I have been on the forums. Figured I would check in and see if people were talking about campus assignments.
I got email about a week ago informing me of my assignment to Muncie. It was my third choice after Indy, and South Bend. However, I am thrilled...smaller class size, great regional hospital, and the block scheduling should be nice in the first year. After I submitted the form I wasn't even sure why I wanted to be in Indy other than that my little brother is in the area. To each is own though. Muncie is Muncie, but honestly none of the campuses are in amazing areas...even Indy. That's coming from an Indiana resident. If you are near a college town, you should be able to find entertainment when you have time.
Who knows how they go about assigning students. I thought maybe EDP applicants might get first choice, next to those "prize applicants" they are really trying to recruit to IU, and people with legitimate ties to their chosen area. Although I saw some OOS applicants got their first choice in Indy...so who knows.
If anyone assigned to the Muncie campus wants to talk about housing or needs a roommate, I am in the process of leasing a 3 bedroom at a nice place. Furnished, individual bathrooms, pool, gym, foosball (boo ya!). If you interested, PM me and I can give you the details.
do they start going through the waitlist on May 15th?
+1Is anyone else still just waiting to hear back if they are even waitlisted/rejected/accepted?

I called the admissions office to set up an appointment over a week ago and the soonest slot they had open was 3+ weeks out...apparently most everyone wants an appointment. I assume some of us on the waitlist will be hearing back fairly soon (if not already so), given the 15th has come and passed. Anyone else already making alternate plans?
On the waitlist and working on executing my Plan B as well. I've scheduled an appointment with Dr. Smartt. Hopefully it goes well. 🙂 Anyone here looking to do IU's Masters Program by any chance?
Any waitlist movement yet?
Has anybody received a criminal background check email this week? Does anybody know what receiving one means at this point in time?
Thanks.
I met with the assistant dean a week ago and as of then the class was still over capacity. He says it usually takes a while until the class moves down in size to start pulling from the waitlist.

What do you mean none of the campuses are in amazing areas? Are you referring to the cities or the specific areas surrounding the campuses? I am not being hostile, I know most of the areas pretty well, too, and was just curious as to what you meant by "amazing."
I just meant that the campus areas/cities or really Indiana in general is not the most happening place in the country, nor does it offer a whole lot of excitement. This is just my opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt. I may be a bit biased because although I spent most of my life in Indiana, I have lived other places and I went to school out west. So for me, going to a med school in say Oregon or Montana (wish they had one) would be awesome, while some others would probably like to be near a beach or something. Funny thing is I didn't even apply to any schools out west because I knew I had a great shot of getting into IUSM and that it would be significantly cheaper to go there...and that is a huge deal in the long run.
Please don't get me wrong...I am not straight hating on Indiana all together. One can find fun and entertainment if they want to...and in fact I haven't even explored all of Indiana so my judgment may even be a bit premature. In fact...if your into this sort of thing...I know there are some great state parks, like Turkey Run up North of Terre Haute and some other great ones down near Bloomington.
Too each his own. Regardless I see med school in itself being an fun & exciting time anywhere you are. Just figured I would make my comments a bit more clear.
Accepted off the waitlist 🙂 bloomington campus, but I am ecstatic!!!! Good luck everybody!!!!!!Still no waitlist movement??
