Has calling the admissions office helped with pre-interview status for anyone? Or should I just keeeeep waiting?

Congrats to those with acceptances!

Thanks everyone. 🙂

And Happy Thanksgiving. Gobble gobble.
Congrats on Hopkins! I'm hoping for some good news from them in December. Hopefully we will be making a similar (very difficult) decision in May 😀

I got the call today - what an awesome pre-Thanksgiving treat! I was in a coffee shop with my boyfriend when I got the call...and I got a little teary. Congrats to anybody else who heard today, and happy Thanksgiving to all!

Hey, I think you were at my Hopkins interview! I was the girl in the pink suit...congrats! Maybe I'll see you at revisit weekend...

I thought that was you. I was in the purple shirt and light brownish-grey suit. The girl who wouldn't shut up about LSU. 🙂 Congrats to you too. 👍

The curriculum is not that stressful, really. People just like to complain, especially when you get a big group of these people in the same room.

Ever since anatomy ended, I've been going out more than I did in undergrad (usually like ~3x/week), including on weekends with monday tests. Why? P/F. Yes they cut lots of the fluff from many of our courses out and are teaching it faster than in past years, but at the end of the day it is P/F and there are some people here who just haven't learned to chill out.

But there are many of us here who have and are enjoying the new curriculum. I only have one criticism & that's likely to change for us once the new Genes to Society segment starts up in December, so even that won't be an issue. The curriculum is so dynamic that any curricular concerns now may likely be resolved next week or next month. And for you guys, it will be much better, too.

At the end of the day the curriculum will be tailored to maintain Hopkins' reputation for producing quality interns & residents, it's just a matter of working out the kinks. And most of that will be done before you get here.

But it's kind of funny that Penn & Columbia are trying to pull the curriculum card now. Someone tell them to cut their nails, it hurts when they bite and scratch 😛

Ugh when's my rejection letter going to arrive.

I'll be in DC in January, I guess this warrants an 'in the area' email. Hopefully that will get them to reply with some sort of decision maybe.

does anyone know the best way to check your pre-interview status here? I cannot find anything on the website. Thanks for your help.

As far as I know, there is no way to check your status online..hopkins does all status updates via email. The order in which things works is this:

application received (email) ->
application complete (email) ->
interview invite (email)/rejection (??) ->
acceptance (phone call)/waitlist (snail mail)/ rejection (snail mail)

If you have received the "application complete" email then your file is being reviewed, but its hard to say how long it will take. Some people have gotten interview invites almost immediately, while others have had to wait 2-6 weeks. Essentially, if you have not gotten a rejection, then you're being reviewed/on hold and still have a chance at an interview invite.

Good luck! 🙂 :luck:

Received the phone call today. 😀😀😀😀

accepted!!!!!!! Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!

Received the phone call today. 😀😀😀😀

Don't mean to knock you at all if you were accepted since it's clearly deserving of congratulations...but i'm a little skeptical since based on the other post quoted above, you claimed you were accepted at the end of october. If it's not real, it's not incredibly kind to those of us who are waiting on decisions...

Anyway, congrats to those who have been accepted!

Hm, I thought I remembered seeing that name earlier in the thread...

Definitely not trying to cause any trouble if this is indeed legit, but looking through DRMRL's previous posts I found this thread, which makes me wonder if he/she even applied to Hopkins (they didn't list it here).

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=668472

Again, congratulations if you were indeed accepted, but just thought I'd put this out there for others to take a look at and make their own judgment.

Johns Hopkins Medical School is in a terrible place in Baltimore. Don't say people should put that as number one. If you like research, you should go there. If you do not, then you shouldn't.
looks like we have ourselves a troll. This is from his previous posts. This post is laughable coming from a DO thread but faking acceptances should = ban

Complete for 3 months already, and I really wonder what is going on. Is this particularly unusual? How long have you all been waiting?

over 4 months... 🙁

I'm really tempted to contact them at this point - how receptive are they to phone calls?

I know people have called post-interview to check on their status and have gotten indirect answers, and I believe someone on this thread a while ago called because he mailed his application but never got the "complete" email...in other words, I think calling is OK, but I'm not sure how much info they'll give you.

It's my understanding that everyone who is "complete" is considered under-review/on hold until they are invited for an interview or rejected.

If you do call, let us know what they say though. 🙂 Best of luck! :luck:

Since I am interviewing at Gtown on 1/11/2010, I sent JHU an "in the area" email about 6 days ago.

Is there any chance JHU will invite me for 1/12 or 1/13? (Is JHU at all receptive to in the area emails, do they even interview on those 2 days, are those days already full?)

I want to book my return flight for 1/11 before the price goes up but I also wanted to give Hopkins a chance to consider inviting me before buying a non-refundable tix.

They only interview on Thursdays and Fridays. So no. Sorry.

Did any of you who got accepted and sent the matriculation agreement letter hear anything from admissions office back? I sent it in a while ago, but didn't receive confirmation or anything.

yes, they sent me another snail mail confirming they received my matriculation agreement

Yes, I sent in my confirmation agreement on 11/06 and I received a letter a few weeks later (it was dated 11/19) that acknowledged the receipt of my matriculation agreement. So it takes a couple of weeks for them to get back to you but if it's been over 2-3 weeks, giving the office a call wouldn't hurt.

I just want to state that I got an interview invitation TODAY. This was sort of a reach school for me, so I am freaking out a little.

Anyway, if you're waiting, keep doing it. It's not over yet.

hi so i just got an interview invite and was wondering if anyone had any advice for the interview day? is it laid back or more formal? is there anything in particular i should take care to bring up? closed or open?

i'm so excited, but nervous at the same time!

AHH! I got the call last night around 7pm!!! 😀 😀

I was at a coffee house event and could barely hear what she was saying except.."Hi...from Johns Hopkins...update your application status....congratulations...offer seat...."

I feel so incredibly lucky and want to thank everyone who offered support and advice. 😍

...still can't believe I'm going to be a doctor... 🙂 😱 🙂

Best of luck to everyone else! :luck:

While I can't compare the interview to any others, I can tell you that I thought it was very easy-going and conversational. You have two interviews, one is with a 4th year student, closed file, the other is with a faculty member, open file. Both seemed just to want to get to know me and find out more details of things I mentioned on my application. (Check out the interview feedback page for some more specific tips).

Good luck and enjoy it! Hopkins was amazing! 🙂 🙂

Congratulations!!! What a great first acceptance!

Obligatory question: When was your interview date? I was told my decision would come in Dec for an early Nov interview.

Yayyyyy! Congrats!! I'm still right there with you with those incredulous and thankful feelings...don't think they'll ever go away. Perhaps I'll see you next year! 🙂

Thank you! I'm unbelievably excited 😀

Haha sorry, forgot to include all that info in my post:

complete: 10/26
interview invite: 10/28
interview: 11/12

Good luck and congrats on your successes so far🙂 :luck:

Congrats everyone!

I have no delusions of getting accepted here, since I haven't heard from them since 10/13 saying my application was complete and have pretty mediocre stats.

How have rejections been going out?

Congrats jfanny!!!! I got the magic call last night as well and I too was in the middle of something that involved other people lol. They were trying to figure out what my reaction was all about. It still feels like a dream!! I'm so psyched!

Best of luck to all still waiting:luck:

Yay!! Thank you and congratulations to you as well 🙂

Looks like you'll have more of a decision to make, but hopefully I'll see you at the second look (and maybe next year) 🙂

To MBHockey:

Don't lose hope yet! As far as I can tell, no news is good news. Once you're complete, you're either being reviewed or on hold. If you haven't received a rejection then you still have a chance at getting an interview. Hang in there and best of luck! :luck:

JFanny88, Don't you think its a little weird that Hopkins invites you 2 days after you were complete and then accepts you while BU rejects you pre-interview. There is no logic to the process.

Anyways, I would just like to say even if I get rejected from JHU its their loss because I am qualified. I'm not going to whine about the little imperfections in my application because I don't believe its the reason. I am sure that there will be a few people at JHU with a 30 on the MCAT and people with a 40 who get rejected pre-interview.

Congrats!!! I remember you from our interview and I'm very excited for you!!! I didn't get a call so I guess those are bad news. I really loved Hopkins. Oh well.

yea, I definitely agree that this process is difficult to understand at times...my best guess is that since BU gets many more applications, they screen more based on stats, and my sub-par MCAT performance hurt me there. I just feel fortunate Hopkins gave the opportunity to interview and then offered me a seat...I couldn't be happier now.

:luck: I wish you the best of luck, and I wouldn't give up on Hopkins yet...if you haven't been rejected, then you still have a shot at an interview, and its definitely worth waiting for. 🙂

Thank you very much, I remember you as well 🙂. Don't give up hope just yet though..I don't know if they call everyone on the same day, so there's still a chance that they may call you early next week. Its also possible that your interviewer hasn't been available so your file hasn't been reviewed yet..I think that's what happened to ksmi and a couple other people who didn't find out until a week or two after others who interviewed on the same day or before them. If you're anxious your best bet would be to give the admissions office a call and see if you've been reviewed yet.

Good luck the rest of the way and congratulations on all your accomplishments thus far! 🙂

anyone know when they are reviewing 11/13 interviewees?

^^ I second this. Anyone from early Nov interviews hear anything (besides the two acceptances)?

And the cricket goes: chirp, chirp 🙂
