2020-2021 Johns Hopkins

A question for those who have interviewed, what does the schedule of the day look like? Does it start with the noon-1 PM orientation and then the 2 1-hour interviews? Is that it or do we have something else before noon? Also, do the interviews take the whole hour?

Someone can correct me if I'm not remembering right, but you schedule your interviews, so I had mine after the noon orientation and nothing before noon (some people had their interviews before noon, or one before and one after)
One of my interviews lasted the whole hour and the other was about 45 minutes, including time of me asking questions. I got the vibe that it depended on the person interviewing, like my one interviewer cut it under an hour to give me a longer break between interviews.
So long answer but it's all pretty well organized so it'll make sense as it's happening!

Update: I called the admissions office...
...and got no response. They are closed during the pandemic, with the message saying to email the admissions office.

The thing is, that email address is indicated to have a 48 hour turnaround time for responses, and the only interview slot I can make is in 48 hours 🙃

You should email Ms. Valerie Mazza, she is in charge of the entire interview day and should respond fairly quickly.

They opened new dates, so problem solved. Thu/Fri through 2/26 are available for scheduling and it sounds like that will be the last date for interviews. Best of luck, everyone!

I know this will probably just add to everyone's anxiety but I was looking at last year's thread and if they follow they same timeline then it should be...tomorrow.

It could definitely be different this year though.

My guess was also for tomorrow or Thursday (I think Dec decisions came out on a Thursday?). Watch us both be wrong and they come out next Monday hahaha. But regardless... somebody hold me 😭

Yeah I just went back to look at December's decisions, as well as last year's Jan and Dec decisions. One was a Thursday, the other a Wednesday, and the last one a Friday. Soooo

Also in 2018-2019 cycle, both Dec and Jan decisions were Thursdays. My guess is also either tomorrow or Thursday *shudders*

I emailed admissions to ask about IIs and they responded this: “Thank you for writing. We are still extending interview offers and will continue to interview through February. Your application is under review by the admissions committee.”

Lol this is nice since my phone is usually muted and I miss a lot of calls.
But I do kinda like how some other schools will call if accepted or email if WL or R, because you know what news to expect - but at the same time, again, I think this would mitigate the intense emotional reaction that one would normally have when receiving an acceptance over the phone...idk.

Anyone remember what time the decisions were released? Unfortunately sdn doesn't show the time of previous posts only the date ;(

If you hover over the date it shows the time too. It was 3-4 PM Eastern

After 30 seconds of deep breaths and refusing to open my eyes to read the email I just realized I got accepted. Please excuse me while I go scream internally at work.

Does anyone know how long their waitlist is? Or the chance of being accepted off of the waitlist?

I feel you! The same happened to me, I thought my interviews went great. They definitely take into account more than just the interview. The interview is just a part of the evaluation when making the final decision. They look back at your entire application including your research, essays, ECs, etc. Don't worry It's their loss! That's how I'm coping with it

Accepted!!! Interviewed in Dec.
Looked are previous years threads and it seems they do not offer any merit based aid. Do others have the same read.....want to make sure I didn't miss anything.

It seems like that might be true unfortunately. I've heard that Hopkins is not great on Financial Aid (perhaps a current student can chime in here?). Although the video they sent us during the interview says that 54% of admitted students get a scholarship (different from general financial aid which could also include loans) sooo who knows!

looks like they’re sending Rs in order. Now just patiently waiting for them to reject my Nov app.
