Yep, do you know typically how long after complete do we get news of invite/hold/rejection etc.? I seem to get the impression that it's fairly random.

Not sure man. I never called to inquire about my status after I turned my app in. Heck after I turned my app in I sort of forgot about Sinai because I thought it was such a reach for me, so you could imagine my surprise.

9-4 is a bit misleading.
if you go to morning lectures and afternoon lab, you'll be here 9-4 tuesdays or thursdays depending on the gross lab schedule
M and F are mostly morning classes only.
W tends to be some morning class and afternoon clinic

after anatomy, your schedule gets lighter. 🙂

I am in the middle of anatomy right now so my answer might be biased. Our anatomy is awesome though. We also have take home exams (that are not open book, it's honor code based).

Our student host program is student run as well.

yeah, seems a bit random... i was complete pretty early here and didn't get an invite when they first started sending them; i think i got it a week or two later. don't try to understand this process-- you are destined for failure if you do

Is LGA the closest airport to Mount Sinai?

Eh...LGA might technically be closest, but JFK and Newark aren't too far either. Newark is in Jersey, but you can easily take the train straight into midtown for a few bucks (maybe a 15min ride that picks you up at the airport). I believe there is also a cheap shuttle from JFK into midtown as well. Explore all three options to get the cheapest price.

Finished secondary today. Late by SDN standards, but I hope that my passion for the school shines through. They have absolutely everything that I want and are by and large my #1 choice.

So how much is taxi fare from JFK to Manhattan? Anyone in NYC area know?

Is LGA the closest airport to Mount Sinai?

LGA is closest, and even though JFK is nicer and bigger, the public transportation from LGA is WAAAAAAY better if you're going to manhattan or the bronx-- you can take the M60 bus to the 4/5/6 trains or the A/C/B/D or the 1/2/3. and it's $2.25 instead of $45.

How long does it take for public transport from Upper E side (Mt Sinai) to LGA? My flight out of there is at 4 and I'm afraid I'm cutting it way too close...

i'd say an hour-ish.

While I'm happy for you, I'm also jealous 🙂

why would you take a taxi for 45?

i'd go to jfk. then take the air train and subway. it will take around 1 hour and costs only 7.25

la guardia is definitely a shorter trip (i just used google maps transit directions and mta tripplanner and both confirmed this) and you can get there for only $2.25.

It is literally impossible for me to check my status here.

They wouldn't tell me via email and I have Comparative Chordate Anatomy from 1-4 on every MW.

Awesome.

This wasn't true from my experience. I just did this on wednesday. I transferred from the M60 to the 5 train, and the bus driver told me that his transfer passes won't get you on a subway train. I had to pay $2.25 for the M60 and $2.25 for the subway.

Can't you just slip out for about 5 minutes to make a call? I do that all the time in class.😀

well if you had used a MetroCard instead of exact change+transfer it would have worked... i do it all the time. sigh... details, details ruin everything

Oooo nice. I should have thought of that. I have a metro card with one ride left, so maybe I can use that if I get a Sinai invite!

go to LGA, 25 dollar ride get you to MSSM, no hassel.

Just want to mention 125th street might not be super safe at night, that's where M60 goes.

Is LGA the closest airport to Mount Sinai?

Yes, LGA --> M60 bus to 125th St/Lexington --> 6 train to 96th/Lexington. ~ 1hr

or, JFK --> Airtrain to Jamaica --> E Train to 51st Street/Lexington --> 6 train to 96th/Lexington. ~1.5 hrs

LGA will def. be faster, but keep in mind if you get lost trying to transfer from the M60 to the 6 train, you'll be in the middle of Harlem. Or, you could just get rid of all of the headache and shell out ~$25 for a cab from LGA, $50 from JFK.

Oops, never mind. 1.5 hours.

How long would this take?

Just edited it for you. It'll take a while, esp. with 2 transfers (its a long walk from the E to the 6 train at 51st street), and the airtrain costs an extra $5.

Agreed. It's not bad during the day at all though.

Question, I read this on Wikipedia, what does it mean?

Although it is chartered by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) to grant academic degrees, MSSM is not accredited by any of the six regional accrediting organizations recognized by the United States Department of Education [12]. Accreditation is important because it determines MSSM's eligibility for participation in federal (Title IV) and state financial aid programs. Accreditation is also important for the acceptance and transfer of credit from MSSM academic degree programs. Accreditation is a prerequisite for entry into many graduate academic degree programs from other institutions. Many employers in the U.S. (and elsewhere) will not accept an academic degree from an educational institution not accredited by one of the six regional accrediting organizations.
Because CUNY and NYU are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Higher Education, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, MSSM has been able to be accredited through those institutions. In exchange, MSSM has agreed to have CUNY and NYU names affixed to the name of MSSM and its academic degrees. Thus, CUNY granted MSSM's degrees from 1968-1999 and NYU since. However, in 2007, the boards of trustees of the Mount Sinai Medical Center approved the dissolution of the academic affiliation between MSSM and NYU and resolved to establish MSSM as an independent degree-granting institution without a university affiliation.[13] In 2008, MSSM applied to be granted accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.[14] MSSM will continue to be accredited through NYU until the Middle States Commission on Higher Education's review process, which began in 2008, is completed. The separation from NYU also require MSSM to petition NYSED for a charter amendment to recognize the MSSM's independent status and to change the name to "Mount Sinai School of Medicine." All academic degrees will be registered with NYSED.[15]
Despite its academic affiliations with CUNY and NYU, MSSM owns its facilities, administration, student body, faculty, admission offices and admission policies, tuition fees, and endowment. MSSM also raises its own funds.

I think it's just basically saying MSSM is not affiliated with NYU, even though NYU name is attached to MSSM in the diploma at the end.

has anyone who were complete on or after late August heard back from Sinai? Has they started rejecting ppl yet?

Just got an invite. I was verified complete when I called them on 8/19, but I was probably complete the week before. The date they gave me was 10/15, but I'm going to reschedule.

SO. INCREDIBLY. EXCITED.

Congrats Steeler!

So I sent Mount Sinai an in-the-area email, and they sent me back an interview invite a few days later. Unfortunately, the interview is not for when I'm actually in the area, lol. I guess I'll try calling them, but I maybe the problem is that my other interview is in 2 weeks, which is too early for them.

I was super lucky. I was able to move my interview right behind my other one in NYC. They only had one spot open that day. This will be so much better for plane tickets and school.

Congrats! I just sent them an in the area email, so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be as lucky!

heh! im glad to be able to join this thread. rescheduled mine for nov 9th tho...
i thought the lady on the phone who helped me reschedule had a really sweet voice!

good job mssm!

hopefully this is a sign of good things to come...

I sent them an in-the-area e-mail (though I use 'area' very loosely, seeing as how the 'area' is the east coast), and they sent me an e-mail back saying she put a note in my file for the committee's consideration. I hope I can get an invite...

Hey guys, I am an MS1 at Sinai. If you need anything or have any questions, let me know. I would be happy to help.

Hey! So do you know the earliest date they will let you know if you are accepted or not post-interview? Thanks!

why do i get the sense that the admissions office at Sinai is a little bit behind the times?

i called today to check my status, btw i love that we have to call, and they told me there was some issue with my letters and that they had to be "hand printed." i get an image of some clerk writing out my letters with a quill. anyway, anyone else hear this from them?
