Getting lost is half the fun! I walked from NYU SOM to the UN building, then cut over towards times square and just started walking up Broadway. I turned around when the walkers thinned out.

but that's how you know you're in a real neighborhood instead of a touristy one! don't turn around then! 😀

👍 If you end up moving here, you're going to appreciate neighborhoods like that.

hey guys is mt sinai receptive to in the area emails?

I sent them an in the area email quite a while ago and received an interview invite about 2-3 hours later.

I'm already hating this month long wait for a decision, this is my dream school 🙂 By the way, this is more of a general question, but are most people just sending email thank you notes or cards too, or both? I think I remember one of the people involved in admissions said they prefer emails.

Emails. They just said to send emails, much easier.

Yeah, this is definitely my dream school too. They said sometimes around mid-November until decision, right?

They said 2nd-3rd week of November for acceptance or waitlist (via email). Rejections go out via snail mail and likely will not come until 3rd-4th week. I think the first acceptances last year went out around 11/13.

Thanks. It's gonna be a long wait.

I'll be in New York relatively soon, and I wanted to send Mount Sinai an 'in the area' e-mail. I'm just not sure what to write. Do I specifically mention possibly interviewing while I am there, or is it more like, 'just wanted to let you know that I will be in New York on so and so dates.'
?

I don't think it really matters. For Mt Sinai, I just told them that I was going to be in NYC from xx/xx-xx/xx and it worked. Though when I talked to the Cornell admissions office on the phone, they specifically said to mention if I was going to be there for interviews. You can use something like this (I found it in another thread here, I think it was from SASpurs):

Due to my continued desire to interview for a position in the class of 2014, I wanted to inform you that I will be in xx between October xx-xx and would be available to interview during that time. I realize interviews are only granted to a select few qualified applicants, but if it appears that I am likely to be offered an interview, I would sincerely appreciate it if you could schedule me around that time.

Don't expect much of a response, though. I sent an e-mail and just got a response that they'd put a note in my file. It works for some people, but not for others, and I doubt it gives much sway one way or the other.

I just interviewed here. I was impressed with the facilities, the dorms, and the location. They have a huge emphasis on service and do a lot of research. From the drift of the promoter's conversation, it also seems like they're very competitive with Columbia and sort of view them as their main rival. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong about that. You have two 30 minute interviewers, and both of my interviewers were really cool. The only thing that I didn't like is that one of my interviewers asked me what my top medical school choice was and also asked me a lot about my Columbia interview.

By the way, I sent them an in-the-area email.

Mount Sinai never sent me a "complete" email. I called in October and found out I was complete on 9/21.

I also recently sent an "in the area" email and got no response to that either. Of all the NYC schools the only one to respond was Cornell and that was just to say that they had not reviewed my file yet.

Has anyone else had that experience because I'm starting to think Mt Sinai has my email wrong or something.

sinai doesn't send complete emails. they were very clear about that in the email you got when submitting the secondary. you have (had) to call on mondays or wednesdays between 2 and 4 for status checks.

and, not all schools are responsive to "in the area" emails... simple as that.

I've never gotten complete email or any correspondence until that interview invite. So I wouldn't worry, just wait and see what happens.

Invite!

Anyone know how accommodating they are with rescheduling the date they offered in the email?

Admissions here is very flexible with rescheduling. They usually prefer phone calls so they can work out a new date with you over the phone.

Called today - application complete🙂

Anyone post-interview planning on sending a letter of interest before hearing a decision?

I was considering it. I loved this place. But I'm not sure, I don't want to seem desperate or anything.

Update: I did get a response to my in the area email (which I sent 10/10).

This will be marked in your file. If you are called for an interview, please call the office and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Also, it seems like people who were complete around early to mid September are getting invites so my fingers are crossed for news in the next 2 weeks.

Interview granted today for Nov 12th! Never got a confirmation that I was completed, submitted late july

congrats! but one thing: mount. sinai. does. not. send. complete. emails. i swear, if one more person comments on how they never got notification of being complete, i'm gonna... well, do nothing. but i'll laugh on the inside.

in other news, i was at sinai yesterday and i fell in love. waiting 'til mid-november sucks already...

hi all, two questions.
does anyone know how many people mount sinai interviews/accepts? and for those of you that have interviewed, what does the schedule for the day look like?
thanks!

no idea how many they interview. but they told us at the interview that "most of us" should get acceptances or waitlists, so i'm assuming they WL a bunch of peeps.

schedule: 8-9:30 orientation with the totally awesome dean of admissions; 9:30-11:30 interviews (2 30 min interviews somewhere in that slot, the rest of the time chilling with current students); 11:30-12 financial aid; 12-2 lunch and tours

806 interviewed, 379 accepted. (in 2007 at least)

The accepted number includes people accepted off of WL though, so fewer will be accepted outright.

Uff they did not respond very kindly to my In the Area email...

Interview invite just now! I was beginning to think Manhattan had something against me.

I was complete at the end of August, and there's a quick turnaround in my interview date (it's in November).

Good luck to everyone waiting!

Any Interview advice for this school? Heading there tomorrow (and not too many things on the feedback website from this year)

The Feedback has lots of good info, IMO.

But anyways, just be yourself and approach it like any other interview. It's a great school.

I had to push my interview out from mid Nov to late Jan. Will I basically be interviewing for the waitlist?

I know someone that received an interview invite early February, scheduled it for a few days later, and was accepted the week after with a bunch of merit aid, so she certainly wasn't 'interviewing for the waitlist'. This whole process is very strange and, in my opinion, impossible to decipher! Really hoping to hear back soon, Sinai's hands-down my top choice.

You didn't get an invite yet, right bluedevil?

Haha i was complete like late july and havent heard a peep from Mt. Sinai yet...which sucks big time! What's the deal Mt. Sinai, what don't they like about me 🙁

Nah, I haven't received an invite. I was complete late August so I wasn't as early as a lot of the kids so far with invites, but at the same time a friend of mine was complete early September and he's interviewing there in a week or two. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

Couple more weeks before us interviewed people hear any news. This wait is killing me.

I'm thinking that we'll hear on Tues Nov 10th. Someone in last year's thread mentioned that the adcom meets on Tues and Weds starting in the 2nd week of Nov. The first people last year heard on 11/11/08 (Tuesday). I'm keeping my hopes up for only 13 more days of waiting 🙂

They said adcom meets every Tuesday, I remember that from the interview day. Hope we hear back on 11/10, that'd be awesome (depending on my outcome, of course ).

i called in today and talked to the people there. they said the admissions committee meets this coming tuesday (first meeting). people who interviewed early will hear next week, and everybody who interviewed by this week will hear the second week of november at the latest if they got in or were waitlisted

Good luck all, we should know by first week of November then.:scared:
