why do i get the sense that the admissions office at Sinai is a little bit behind the times?

i called today to check my status, btw i love that we have to call, and they told me there was some issue with my letters and that they had to be "hand printed." i get an image of some clerk writing out my letters with a quill. anyway, anyone else hear this from them?

. They're probably busy with all the apps. Give it some time.

after hand printing. Submitted 8/26. complete 9/30.

Anyone get an email about the PORTAL Program? I just got it this morning.

Ya I got it this morn too. It says it's due 10 days before the interview. But my interview is on the 12th, so this thing is due tomorrow for me? uhhhhh

I can't find more info on the program anywhere.

Then I'm already late.

Yeah, I got mine this morning and my interview is in less than a week. I really like the sound of this program, but can't seem to find a word about it on the website. Maybe I'll just submit it, explain that this was the first thing I heard about it, and let them worry about it being "late".

I guess they have two interviews then, one for the medical school interview and the other for this? I wonder if I should apply, I don't have any clinical research background.

Neither do I, but my research is related to medicine, so I'm going to apply anyway.

what the hell is PORTAL? I am a student and I don't even know.

Oh yeah, we got to do laproscopic surgery on cadaver today, way cool.

I think it's a new 5 year MD/Masters in Clinical Research program they just started.

Do you think it's too late to apply here now?

i sent in a hasty application today explaining that the link to the app was sent to me after the deadline they want. i don't think i'm going to get an interview this fast though, so it was probably a wasted effort.

i think that poster meant is it too late to apply to mt. sinai as a whole...

and my answer would be if you have the money, go for it.

Interview invite for 10/22

sorry its early

Rescheduled my Monday invite for 10/15 to 11/6 this morning. Very friendly, I believe she was the same person who answered my (frequent) calls to check for completion.

I was complete around mid-July as well.

sent in most of my app mid july but basically only got the last letter (english professor) in i think in early september

I called 2 weeks ago and they told me the same thing about needing to print it out from the AMCAS website. I still have not gotten the complete email from them. So yeah I do believe they are writing it out with a quill LOL.

So, I called today and my file is complete. The quill must not take too long.

Anyone know the date they expect to get back since they're not rolling? Is it a specific day in March?

Thanks

I thought they were rolling. They said 11/15 is the date they will let us know about acceptaces. At least according to their website.

Finally got a chance to call today to ask about app status. I'm complete, but no interview yet. I really hope I get one here!

Anybody interviewing have a clue as to what's going on with this PORTAL program? The program sounds good and I sent in an application... but I'm interviewing for the MD school REAL soon and haven't heard anything back. Do you think it's fair to call in and ask what's going on, so I can hopefully see somebody on the same day as my MD interview while I'm still in NYC?

They talked about it at my interview. It seems they are still working how exactly it is going to work, so I would guess you wouldn't find out if you were accepted until later in the season. Definitely don't worry about it for your interview🙂.

Is there a good website that gives info about this PORTAL program?

This is the jewel of New York medical schools. I was so impressed. I mean, everything about it is just amazing.
The interview day is simply outrageous. They literally treat you like VIP, you feel so special, the amount of attention they give to you. Especially the med students. I felt like a rock star. Be sure to stay with a host.
My top choice school for sure.👍

haha, we gave you attention because we are trying to recoup our secondary fee, one coffee a day.

also we love you.

Is it too soon to send a letter of interest to Mount Sinai? Anyone know how receptive they are to demonstrated interest?

I <3333 sinai and desperately want an interview from here! Out of all 14 schools I applied to, this was the one I really wanted and felt like I would be a perfect fit for.

*sigh* I want an interview.

Keep up hope. They just started interviewing.

But like I said, they sure do treat their students and interviewees with respect and professonalism. The students especially were so happy and cheerful. Definitely laid-back and very little competitive atmoshpere. And the location itself is one of the best things about the school. You basically get everything that Upper East Side and Spanish Harlem have to offer, they really emphasized the diversity of patient cases when I was here.
The student residence hall is amazing, the view is gorgeous from the top floors, and you get your own bedroom. Suite-style.👍

And the anatomy labs are all the way up in the Annenberg (which is an ungodly tall building) so you get an entire view of Manhattan, it was beautiful. You get this incredibly beautiful scene over the city as you do dissections and stuff.

The hospital is also huge and looks super clean and great. I really liked that they gave us a tour of the hospital itself, including a walk-through the emergency room. Other med schools only give tours of the med school buildings. No wonder it's ranked top 20 in the nation, definitely deserves the ranking.

Good luck, people who are still waiting for interviews and those who interviewed. :luck:

I don't even want to dream about getting an interview from here. It does sound so amazing thought. If it;s one school I will sink myself into 300k debt for, it would be this one.

I don't think that much. MSSM is one of the more affordable schools, low tuition.

BlueElmo, did you spend any extra time there just to explore NYC? I'm interviewing at Columbia in a few weeks, and I'm thinking of staying an extra day to check out the city...though I don't know how easy it is to explore if it's my first time there or how much fun it would be by myself.

Nah, I had to fly home. But sure, you could check out the city, I guess. Just don't get lost.

Getting lost is half the fun! I walked from NYU SOM to the UN building, then cut over towards times square and just started walking up Broadway. I turned around when the walkers thinned out.
