Hey guys im filling out Tufts financial aid papers and they want a "TUSM ID NUMBER" did they give that to us or do we leave it blank?

I thought you could write your social security number in lieu of it?
 
Complete on 10/30/09, interview invite on 2/5/10 and scheduled for late March. I was surprised (albeit quite pleased) to receive an invitation at this juncture. I hope this is informative for those still waiting.

Thanks that was helpful. Surprised they're in late march dates already. Seems like their season is coming to a close then. I think they only interview through March.

congrats! i was complete 2 days earlier, i hope they didn't skip over me 🙁

The invite came via email. There were several interview dates in late March from which I could choose, March 30th being the latest possible date. My impression is that marks the conclusion of the interview season. I read earlier in the forum that someone learned that interviews will be extended throughout February, so not time to give up yet.
 
Wohoo, got the MD/MPH acceptance snail mail yesterday. It took a bit over a month after MD acceptance to those waiting.
 
Could someone who is a current student at Tufts (or one who knows more than me) answer these questions about the MD/MPH program?

My big fear is that since they squeeze both of the degrees in 4 years, that it might be a bit overwhelming to juggle both medical school courses and public health courses. Is this difficult at all, or doable?

I also heard someone tell me that MPH's are only helpful if you go into primary care. While that is my interest right now and I am very interested in public health, I am worried that if I do end up changing my field that the degree will not be as beneficial for me. Is this true? It's an additional 20K.

I cannot answer for Tufts particular program, but I have met numerous MDs in a range of specialties that promote an MPH... so I would say its worth it. I'm also considering it if I go to Tufts, though really unsure about Tufts at this point...

I'm in an MPH program now and definitely don't think that an MPH is only helpful for primary care. I could probably go on and on about the benefits of studying public health, so PM me if you want more info 🙂

I'm not sure about what the workload would be like if you have to complete both your MD degree and MPH degree in 4 years. At the school where I go the MD/MPH students finish in 5 years, not 4, but I think it might be nice to be able to finish everything in 4 years so that you could graduate with your class. Anyway, I think it would probably be doable, especially if you could take an MPH class or two over the summer in between the 1st and 2nd year. And if Tufts has been doing it this way for a while now, then it must be working out okay.

$20,000 is definitely expensive and the cost is something to think about, but it's less than you would pay at a lot of places if you were getting an MPH degree separately (either before or after medical school). Even though I'm paying what seems to me like a ton of money in order to get my degree, I really feel like it's been worth it and I don't think I'll have any regrets later. Of course, I haven't started repaying my loans yet though! 🙂

First 2 years.

Side note... 2nd year is not really a full year, you're done in Feb or early March.
 
Hey guys.... im kinda nervous! I went to send my reply form and deposit on the Friday the 12th, the lady at the postal office said that Monday was going to be a holiday. So I decided to send my mail thru Express. The postal office said they left a notice on Saturday the 13th, im guessing because nobody was there to sign for it. My deposit and reply form need to be at admissions by Feb 17 @5:00 pm (tom). I called the postal office and they said that only the recipient can request a redelivery. I am trying to call Tufts admissions now and they arent picking up! What should I do? Thanks

Leave a message, send an email and don't freak out. They just wanna know you're actually serious about considering matriculating, which obviously you are haha

I am going through this situation EXACTLY right now. Yea why are they not picking up the phone? I want to send my MD/MPH candidate reply form.

What I would do if I were you, is shoot an email to Thomas Slavin (Director of Admissions). Tell them that you can't get in touch b/c Tufts (maybe the weather?) seems to be closed right now??? I'll try calling a bit later b/c it's lunch time right now. Hopefully they'll be there.

Hopefully the USPS note is enough for them to know we are interested. I hope I don't want to get dropped 🙁
 
I hope the notice will do... but they seem pretty strict about the acceptance expiring after the date. I think im going to go to the post office and send another check and a letter saying I accept the offer, and send it for next day delivery. What do u think?

Haha, yes I'm doing that also. I actually made photocopies of my candidate reply form just in case. Now I'm glad I did it. I am going to do that also. I'm just bummed b/c that's another 18 dollars down the drain.
 
thats exactly what i paid haha!! Is your reply form already written on? Do u think a generic one will be ok? What does it say when u accept the offer? So i may write the same thing
 
My form is a bit different b/c it says I accept the offer to the MD/MPH program. However this is the stuff that you should include

1) I accept the offered position in the traditional MD track program for the TUSM Class of 2014.

2) Include your full name (first, middle, last) and your AAMC ID Number

3) Signature and Date

These are they three main things you need. I think they will get the idea. And resend our 100 dollars. Hope that helps! I'm still confused as to why they aren't picking up....

Hey guys,

My application was certified Nov 7th... Anyone who submitted their secondary around then get an interview recently. I noticed someone who certified Oct 30 get an interview a week or so ago, a little hopeful here...

I was certified Oct 15, still haven't heard anything from Tufts...

how late do they interview? I thought their secondary deadline was late around Jan 15th... maybe they're still going through apps? --> just getting a bit hopeful here...

Hey guy the last interview day is March 30th. There are 4 interview days open, I have no idea how many spots are open for each day. At my interview there were about 30 people I believe, so minimum 4 spots and maximum well lets just say a lot. Also more spots may open up as people withdraw pre-interview. 🙂
 
I almost bricked when I saw the email from Tufts today, but it was just the contact update message.
 
anyone know when they roll out financial aid award letters?
 
eh... im still waiting for an interview invite. i was complete sometime in august, my stats are 3.8 gpa, 35Q mcat, lots of volunteer experiences, 4 years of undergrad research (and presentations at conferences), EMT experience, and shadowing.

is there still a chance?
 
same boat, any more interviews being given out/ are we being silently rejected?
