OOS by the way. But my entire extended family lives in/around Buffalo.

What field of interest (what kind of doctor) did you enter for Buffalo's secondary app?
Does it matter what you put?

dont remember for sure, but i thought it said that 'field of interest' had no bearing on your app?

Just feeling nostalgic about SDN, so I decided to pop back in and look at the UB thread. I'm a current student, so if anyone has any questions, just PM me. Also, for some helpful stats, they announced at our white coat ceremony that the avg MCAT was a 31/32, the avg GPA was a 3.7/sci 3.6 (or something around there), and nearly everyone did some sort of research. Class size is 140ish, lots of OOS-ers (probably 1/3). Best advice is chill out for the interview. It's INCREDIBLY relaxed and the faculty are the nicest that I've spoken with anywhere. Good luck.

howd the interview go for you you 9/2 ppl? I had to reschedule to next wednesday, but I was wondering how the day was organized. I have a flight at 5:45 that day...

Okay, ****ing up this secondary has really told me that this process is making me lose my mind lol.

On the one question where it says "do you realize that a felony might take away your licence"...I didn't even notice it and left it on "No" and submitted.

I was able to access the secondary a second time and pick "Yes" and submit a second time. Does anyone know if that just updates their file or how that works. It didn't say anything about me already submitting. Also the status check doesn't pull up anything. says amcas id not found. But I JUST submitted so maybe that's why..

buffalo is the school...med students on the adcom? thanks

My status page is incomplete so I called-and they gave me an MSTP invite on the phone!

MadMnkey:What was the interview like? Also, how do I get up there from NYC?

Does this mean you interviewed on the 16th? I was there on the 16th...

It was an enjoyable day!

Interview on Wednesday. Getting really excited.

sweet! it will be such a chill experience. I am totally in love with this school. only problem i saw was the actual city didn't have too much to do. but the faculty is really awesome and VERY teaching oriented. if you want to know the question to really be prepared for, it's this: "why buffalo?" I got asked that question twice, once by each interviewer

:luck:

Two things:

I'm interviewing next week (I had to put off the interview they assigned me because I had a conflict with my new job... they are totally okay with doing that, but of course you should interview as early as possible anyway).

Does anyone know a good hotel or one that might be able to ferry me there? Anyone already interviewed this year or last and had a good hotel experience? Also, how hard is it to drive around Buffalo. I'm from Boston, and I can't stand driving in Boston or NYC.

Second, I applied last year with a 32 with no interview invite, so the 28+ comment is just plain wrong. Luck always enters into it.

I stayed with my friend, but the other students interviewing said that the hotel that UB recommends in the packet they send you is great. And driving around Buffalo is nothing compared to Boston or NYC. Allow for extra time in the morning though for typical rush hour traffic.

They actually gave a list of like 6 hotels, so I wasn't sure which to choose.

Thank you kindly though!

so I am starting to freak out that something is wrong with my applications, i have 34 and 3.7gpa (both Science and cumulative) but only 1 interview invite, I was thinking of adding buffalo tom, but do u all think its too late to add it?

Don't freak out yet. I was complete at most schools by July, and got an interview at my state school almost right away, but then didn't hear ANYTHING positive for 2 months, but then I just got 2 more interviews. You will be fine. 👍 GL

Interviewed on Wednesday. I was really impressed, its a great place.

Depends on your EC's and the schools you applied to.

can someone familiar with the area please tell me the best/cheapest way to get from the BUF airport to the school? thanks🙂

Depends on where you are staying and if they have a shuttle or not... it's pretty easy to navigate around here so if you rent a car it wouldn't be bad and I think the rates are decent here...I live here so PM me if you need help with anything else!!😎

You could try taking the metro http://www.nfta.com/metro/trip_planner.asp Pretty much once you get to Main St you can take the train/subway to south campus. There you can take the UB Stampede to North Campus or take the Blue line to Downtown.

thanks for the help guys! I'm not old enough to rent a car. So I'm looking at the metro option and staying with a student host or staying at a hotel with a shuttle service. I heard some of the hotels have very convenient shuttles, but I just want to figure out if getting to the school/host is feasible by myself.

Complete 5 days ago and Interview Invite today. Anyone have any advice on the student host option at UB?

It's way to early to worry, especially if you have an interview invite. You could definitely add Buffalo now, and their secondary is pretty quick so it's not a bad idea.

Anyone going to be there tomorrow morning?

interview invite for 10/21!! complte 9/1.
PS; got my invite last week !

agreed! no action is driving me up a wall! i've had those two words since july 🙁

Yup, no action since July 3rd LoL

for those of you interested in a hotel, you could take a cab or the nfta (the public bus) from the airport. the closest hotel to south campus (where the medical school is) is boulevard inn & suites. it's a little motel right across the street from where the medical school is, and it would be a 5 minute walk. can't comment on pricing though, but shouldn't cost too much at this time of year.

Interview invite today for 11/2. Previously no action since 8/6.

👍👍👍 Agreeeeed. I'm a UB masters student right now...and I'd like to at least know either way what is going to happen, I have a house to possibly sell 🙄. These forums can make you crazy when you see people get turned around so quickly when they are comparable to you. But with your stats, I'm sure you'll get an interview! Off topic but I got a pre-interview hold for Upstate today as well (I expected that though).

Anyways- Good luck to you!:luck:

Wow, I've only heard great things.
What impressed you the most? How was the interviewer?

Im interviewing on 10/14 🙂

Can someone point me to info on their currriculum.... i am having difficulty finding info on their webpage.

What makes the school so amazing?
Ditto.

I'm going up on Nov 18th. I contacted a student host +1 week ago but no word. Is it rude to re-contact them?

Interview invite! complete early August. Scheduled for November 4th.
OOS/38

Thanks KG! Good luck to you as well. You have lots of clinical experience!

Hopefully I hear something from them soon... the Upstate hold isn't too reassuring as it proves being instate and having competitive stats apparently isn't enough.

Thanks! Dean Rosso is extremely nice, you should try contacting him- I know several people who have done that.:luck:

is there anyone interviewing here next week that has not received an interview itinerary by mail as promised in the interview invitation?

If anyone is interested in the current curriculum, here's the link. http://www.smbs.buffalo.edu/ome/ome_curriculum_ic.htm

Also, if you're interested in research and the future of the medical school, you can read up on UB2020 on the website. In particular, the university will be building a new vascular center and a new translational research center which will open in 2011 or so.
