I think there was an excom meeting on Wednesday, because I interviewed on Tuesday and got a phone call with my acceptance on Wednesday night! It was soooo exciting!

Any news from the UWSOM front?

Has anyone been accepted from the competitive pool?

Good luck to everyone out there!

Congrats Tavis!! I was in your interview group and I still haven't heard anything back, so I'm not sure there was actually an EXCOM meeting on Wednesday...I think you were just that awesome 🙂

Oh, I'm Shannon BTW, I was the only asian girl of the bunch.

can i just say the anxiety about this school is killing me...i'm literally dying. ok, sorry for the melodrama.

interviewed the week of 11/23 and i am desperate to know.

I just got my interview invitation today! Complete on 11/4/09.
I'm interviewing on Dec 29th. Very excited 🙂

Well at least, if nothing else, we're all developing the patience necessary to be successful physicians:laugh:

i'm hoping e-mails aren't only for interview offers and rejections come by snail mail thus the delay.

Hey does anyone know how serious they are about applicants sending in grade updates after finishing a semester? I'm about one week away from graduating and they have all my grades except from this last semester. Do I really have to send the new grades to them? My complete application was received Nov 30th so it could be a while before the interview invite.

Has anyone been in contact with UW admissions lately? Do we know a time frame for the next round of decisions? I'm guessing that they will meet before Xmas.

Good grades = send
Not good grades = wait awhile

Just my opinion...no evidence to back it up.

Well, actually, the e-mail I received when my application was complete said the following, "At the end of each quarter or semester in which you are enrolled, please have a copy of your transcript or a copy of your quarter or semester grades forwarded to our office (this may be an unofficial transcript sent by email.)"

I agree, I'm assuming that they just want an update to see that you're not completely failing your last year. Or if you've made improvements. I don't think it's a major factor, but a factor nonetheless.

The executive committee meetings seem to have changed this year. Depending on your actual excom member (not your interview date), you'll hear back when their particular batch is reviewed.

I've heard that everything is done by e-mail this year. They want to boost their "green" ratings.

I was told that there is a meeting this upcoming week. Not sure what day it's on though...

Just got the call from my ExCom member: Accepted. So excited! I can't believe it.

They did have an ExCom meeting today so I hope there is lots of good news coming for you all!

That is exciting! I am hoping to hear something tomorrow then...

When did you interview? Should we start sharing EXCOM members since they are organizing meetings based on one members interviewees at a time?

Has anyone else heard back after yesterday's meeting?

Still nothin'... And I interviewed way back on 11/19. I've pretty much lost all hope by now and I'm just waiting for the rejection email. 😛

Good luck to everyone. 🙂

Foofoobunnyoink,

Don't give up now, it's way too early. I interviewed on the same day as you and know that UW would be wise to accept you. It's a lot of waiting and wondering, but we don't know the admissions committee's routine or time frame.

Oooh, now which awesome interviewee were you? I think we had a lovely group of people that day. 🙂

Thank you for your kind words. I guess the longer I wait, the more pessimistic I get. 😛

Yea. dpn't worry, you'll be fine! ... although this waiting game is not too fun!

Has anyone when accepted from that 'competitive pool' yet?

I wonder if they've doled out any rejections to in-state residents yet...? This silent treatment would be much more bearable knowing that I am indeed considered competitive, and not just on hold for the chopping block... 😕

All I can do, I suppose, is prepare for the worst.

The silence is deafening...still waiting for an interview invite.

They have rejected some in-state-ers. Even though they are rolling, a good proportion of the class is filled in March. But I know how you feel - gah!

If you're put in the competitive pool, how do you know? Does the school call/e-mail you or is it your ex-com member? Or do you just assume you are if you don't hear back after your interview?

The admissions office sends you an email. It's rather encouraging (they mention that 46% of those in the pool eventually matriculate) but also says you may not hear anything until April.

hi theanine, thanks for responding 🙂...and this may be a big DUH, but just to be clear, are you referring to rejections post-interview?

Yes, I know a few people who have been rejected before and after their interviews.

Just got the "still under consideration" post-interview email from UW. That makes 5 waitlists without an admittance. Aaahhhhhhh!!

Got the email as well. 50% chance doesn't sound so bad to me 🙂

Good luck to everyone!

I know, I know...it's just that I have been in this pool two times already. Needless to say 50% feels a lot like 0%, but I know that is not the case. Good luck to you, Dr. Luv.

I also received the 'still under consideration' email today.

It just feels good to know things are still rolling along. 🙂 Good luck to all!

Darksidemoon...I really hope you get in this year!! I can't even image subjecting myself to the stress of this seemingly random, brutal process more than once, let alone three times. Sometimes the whole pre-med experience feels...dehumanizing. For someone who was already convinced of a rejection, I was more than happy to get this email. But after reading your post I think I'll remain relatively pessimistic 🙁 Anyways, I feel like almost ALL of the interviewees end up making the "competitive pool" so I'm not sure that my chances have dramatically increased.

BTW, did you ever make the alternate list? I wonder how many people make the alternate list each year.

"Anyways, I feel like almost ALL of the interviewees end up making the "competitive pool" so I'm not sure that my chances have dramatically increased."

According to the MSAR book, more than 70% of in-state applicants are offered interviews, so depending whether you are in state or OOS, this might or might not increase your chances. No matter what, 50% is better than that 24% right after interviewing.

Stella in admissions said they have reduced the number of people they're interviewing this year. They interview somewhere around 50% of applicants now. According to last year's #'s, around 800 people (in-state) applied and 390ish were interviewed for about 160 spots. That would make around 70 rejections and 320 (minus accepted folk) still in the "competitive pool".

DrLuv: I have that 1137 IS applied, 761 IS interviewed, and 195 IS matriculated. (But my sources are not reliable, whatsoever.) I like your numbers much better.

Also, I think Stella is probably referring to UW's prescreening, which took effect last year. Before last year, they had automatic interviews for people who met a set GPA/MCAT (3.6/30) requirement.

theanine- the numbers i quoted were given to me by Stella before my interview. i was a bit shocked with how few IS applicants there were last year (although perhaps she was referring only to "in-region" applicants/ spots?) Either way, the numbers are encouraging. Hopefully there are even fewer applicants this year 😀.

These are the same # I have, from the now-copyright-protected 2010-11 School Selector Spreadsheet (R.I.P.) - can anyone confirm these are the same as the MSAR data?

Maybe she was referring to WA applicants / interviewees only, excluding WAMI? I've read that those states get a much higher number of applicants for just a handful of spots each year...

Either way, the numbers are encouraging. Hopefully there are even fewer applicants this year 😀.

👍👍👍

Interesting that they only took <40% of the class from this pool... implies that >60% of the class had either GPA <3.5 (which I believe was the cutoff) or MCAT <30, or both. Right?

Any last-minute pre-Christmas excom meetings this week? Anyone know?

Merry Christmas everybody! Is anybody interviewing next month? I'll be interviewing in Seattle on Jan. 11th.

Does anyone know how many MT residents are interviewed? I just got my interview acceptance a few days ago!
