Yeah the only ones who I may venture to guess are not in this situation are people who are in GMS who get evaluated separately based on GMS performance and MCAT and ECs more so then ugrad GPA due to having taken M1 classes there. But only about 80 or so of the 180 or so in GMS actually interview. They get evaluted in October to spring separately as a separate pool.

Outside of them I'm assuming everyone else reviewed in order as the patterns are showing on here. You know the first time I applied to BU I never noticed this stuff about the 3 week rule and stuff. It is interesting the things you learn when you go through it the second time and pay attn to posts. lol

RickyJamesMD,

Good luck on your interview. So it looks like all the people who were getting antsy earlier and posting from the beginning are the ones now getting interviews. You, Queso, and Bulldog

Congrats to all of you. And best of luck.

I'm not a GMS person if that's what you were implying, Guju. 😕 But they were only 4 days "out of order," so its not a huge discrepancy.

Good :luck: to you though, as our resident BU expert. 😛

Basically it is the general belief of this thread, and may really be the case considering so far no one who has been rejected has been a deviation from this rule, but as it stands........

Everyone on here who has been rejected thus far received rejection roughly 3 weeks to the date of completion of their application. So its been reviewed in order of completion and rejected in similar order rather then mass rejections all on one day later on.

So far whoever has received the 30 day email, and made it past 3 weeks has received an interview roughly a bit after such for the most part.

There are about 12,000 applicants to BU this year. They first trim it down to 7500 applicants so even qualified high scorers have gotten rejected. There are then 1000 interview spots roughly across 3 days of the week for each week of interview cycle. These are so far given to a percent of the people who got the 30 day email.

Some who have gotten the 30 day email have not yet received an interview but most on this thread have.

So our belief is people who don't make the initial prescreening get cut within roughly 3 weeks.

oh what does the actual 30 day email say??? when do you receive it usually if you do happen to get it?

From the email:

It has been 30 days since we sent you a notice indicating that your application was complete and had been referred to our Committee on Admissions for review. While our Committee is accustomed to reviewing a very large volume of applications, this year we have seen an unprecedented number of applications that have been completed early in the cycle. It appears that we will be able to interview only about 10% of our applicants this year, so these reviews are quite challenging. As a result, we are running several weeks behind.

I regret the fact that we have not been able to take action on your application as yet, but I want to assure you that we are moving as quickly as we can and that there will be no penalty for the delay in our processing. Applicants who are selected for interview are invited in chronological order by date of application completion, not by date of review. If our Committee on Admissions concludes that we can invite you for an interview and campus visit, we will get it done!

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience caused by our extended review of your file. We expect to complete our evaluation quite soon, and wish you success with all your applications.

Hope you get one too!!

interview invite! 😀

complete july 27th

so has that 30 day e-mail changed in wording since July/August ? I think earlier posts of it in the thread didn't make it out to be as... apologetic if i recall correctly. does this mean theyre even more overwhelmed now ? (which would make sense, i assume this is peak application processing time)

Not sure...that's the exact wording from the email I received on 8/12

so kitkat, did they send that email to pretty much about 1 month after you were completed?

Yeah, they're pretty spot on with the timing. I was complete on 7/12. Have you passed the dreaded 3 week mark?

nah not yet. so if you hear nothing after 3 weeks it's possibly a good sign? you have within 3 weeks to get rejected?

Yeah it seems like once you get passed the 3 weeks you'll eventually get the 30-day email which has been a very good sign!

Good luck to you!

I'm also at the 3 week mark and haven't heard anything. Hmm...

About to hit three weeks... :scared:

I should get that 30 day email in .....40 minutes... Let's see how accurate they are 😀

FYI......I have a feeling if you are a minority or disadvantaged applicant, the 3 week rejection mark doesn't exactly apply. I am assuming it is a different committee that reviews your application. You may be waiting a couple of weeks after when you thought you would get a rejection/interview to hear.

Nope. Just a middle-class Caucasian female... we'll see on Wednesday.

Wow. Here I was thinking that getting that 30 day email thing was bad. Now that I'm reading this thread more in-detail, I guess it's a good thing. Woohoo! I got the 30 day email on 9/15. Hopefully that means that an interview invite is around the corner! :xf:

You made it past the first cut! Which I think was about 12,000 down to 7,500.....so good luck!!!🙂

Interview invite! Complete 8/2. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

You will have plenty of time to get to Boston. By bus the trip takes anywhere from 4.5-6 hours, train is about 4 hours, and flying takes 45 minutes. I make the trip between the two cities a lot since I now live in Boston and am from NY, and I always take the train. The bus is a lot cheaper, but I can't stand getting stuck in lots of traffic around rush hour, and I get motion sick really easily 🙁. If money is really tight, MegaBus or Bolt Bus are good options - a ticket will run you about $15-20. A train ticket will cost you anywhere from $60-120 depending on the time of day or what train you take. If you book it early enough, you can get $50 fares. Sometimes you can get really cheap flights (around $60), but depending on where your NY interview is, getting to the airport can be a hassle. It might be worth looking at kayak.com to see if flights are cheap. You would want to fly out of JFK to have the most options. It's also fairly easy to get to JFK via public transit.

Any way you do it, if you leave right after your interview, you should arrive in Boston in the early evening.

Good luck on your interviews!

The Acela Amtrak train takes about 4.5 hrs to get from Penn Station in NYC to Boston. You can also take one of many buses- limo liner, for example, but that's pretty costly- and those take around 5.5 hours (although they obviously depend on traffic). I guess it depends when you interview is done on the 21st and when the next one starts on the 22nd, but assuming you finish in the early afternoon on the 21st I don't think you should have any trouble getting to Boston on time.

Thank you guys so much for your advice and help! I really appreciate it. Good luck to everyone else in their application and interviews as well

The Acela actually only takes 3.5 hours from Penn to South Station in Boston, but the Northeast Regional Amtrak train takes 4.5 hours. Not a big difference, and the Northeast Regional train is usually $30-50 cheaper. But the Acela is oh so pretty and has free wifi.

I take the bus whenever I head down to NYC to visit friends. It is super cheap (you can sometimes get fares for 1$) and can get you from south station in boston to penn station in new york which is very convenient. AMTRAK is definitely a much nicer way to travel, but it is much much more expensive. Also, if you or queso or anybody have any questions about how to get to where you need to go in boston on public transport or anything just PM me. Congrats on the interviews!

nah if they haven't heard in 3 weeks then it is prob. sign they made the first cut even if they don't make the 2nd cut.
I was actually talking about the second cut🙂 You can make the first cut, then see people who were complete WAY after you get interviews but you still may actually have a chance if you fall into this category, so don't stress too much immediately🙂

Sorry to bust bubbles, but I got a rejection at 4 weeks after completion.
Complete 8/23

congrats!!! mind if i ask what the date availabilities were? Curious to see how far in advance they are booking...

does anyone know if they have student hosting this year? thanks! 🙂

^^^ That's the idea gujuDoc, sending good energy everywhere !! 🙂

they had the first two weeks of november open....so like a month ahead

That is good news because BU interviews until mid December and then makes acceptances/deferrals/rejections on those apps in early January.

So those interviewed before January get two bites at the apple. If deferred in january, they are considered again for acceptance in March along with the post-January invitees.

And LOTS of deferred applicants are accepted in the second cut.

but you all already know that, i am sure. after all, you have guju!!! We are all really pulling for you guju. and brainbuff too.

Is there anyone who made it past the 30 day mark but not receive the 30 day notice email? Thanks!

The 30 day email says "While our Committee is accustomed to reviewing a very large volume of applications, this year we have seen an unprecedented number of applications that have been completed early in the cycle."

At some point it's no longer "early in the cycle" so they're going to stop sending that message at some point...

As long as you're complete online, then you're still being considered so I wouldn't worry too much.

Complete 9/9
Rejected today.

Bummer.

Good luck everyone!

I've been hoping to post here! Interview invite today! 32S, sgpa 3.80, cgpa 3.73, grad applicant
Super excited about this! Complete 8/03, invite 9/29

Can anyone answer this question? They don't seem to mention it anywhere and Boston is pricey...

Yeah, they do have a student host, you'll get it once you've picked an interview date.

I scheduled that quite a long time ago. There was a confirmation email that includes hotel information and a schedule for the day, but no mention of student hosts. Am I looking in the wrong place?

same here! after i scheduled it, the confirmation email had no mention of student hosts, although it did have a link to a bunch of hotels. 😕
