UP and CP:
I know CP is PBL--do you still get big note packets/syllabi to study from in addition to your PBL stuff? I'd really like to lean more about how the basic sci part of the curriculum works.
UP--are lectures mandatory? Are lectures recorded? Good note packets?

I can't speak for the CP, but UP PBL is (first year) 2 hrs MWF 8-10 am, then 2 hrs lecture. Tues is Lecture (Seminar topics) and then either Anatomy or Histo. Thursdays are review. There are other review sessions sometimes during the week. One night a week, you have a Physical Diagnosis session where you learn how to take patient histories and do basic physical exams. Thursday review lectures are videostreamed. This means that less than half the class shows up. (I go because I know myself well enough that I WON'T watch the videostream later, no matter how good my intentions are, heh)

There isn't a syllabus, exactly. Lectures have a list of "Learning Objectives" and readings that correspond to each lecture. There are also multiple "required reading" materials intended to be read before, but a lot of students read it afterwards. It depends on how you work best.

As for studying the PBL stuff, each PBL group (8-9 students) essentially makes their OWN study packet. We have a preceptor, and he gives us the official list of learning objectives we were meant to have gotten, but not until the end of the week. We then put our research up in an organized wiki, which makes studying for the exam towards the end of the Block a lot easier. Tho tbh we've only just started really getting the hang of it, in my group at least 😉

Awesome! I think that's a really neat middle ground between pure lecture and pure PBL.

BTW, you are also invited to the unofficial sept 13th CCLCM/Case skate night if myuu and CCLCMer are still available/get back to me hahaha.

Another one bites the dust...

Rejected from UP yesterday 🙁... I didn't know they worked on Labor day...

Gotta stay positive...good luck to those with interviews....

If you get rejected, on the status page under UP correspondence does it say "rejected" or should I look somewhere else.

under the UP header, it will say that they are unable to offer you an interview (in a link form, you can click on the link and it will tell you the same thing in a not so concise form)....

Sorry to hear about that. When were you complete?

Sorry to hear that! Keep at it tho - and there's still time to submit apps to other schools. I got my secondaries out pretty late in the season - like, Oct/Nov, and still got a few interviews. Good luck! ^_^

You're on! If I can, that is, I might have my PD class session that evening. Either way, I'll def make sure to caaaaasually drop by the admissions office sometime 😉

UP/CP interview invite! I'm going to have a hellish time taking two (and a half, for travel) consecutive days off of work and school to get myself down to Cleveland... but I think this school is worth it. 🙂

does anyone have any stats on how many people interview, how many are accepted, and how many people matriculate?

For the question

Each year our students target for themselves areas of improvement. Other than the acquisition of new knowledge, what personal area do you think needs strengthening?

do you guys think itd be weird to write about body training...........?
Yes, it would be weird. Unless maybe you mean that you're overweight/out of shape and you're wanting to improve your health? I guess that would be a reasonable answer.

Well I think the question is referencing how their students target areas academically so they reflect and improve the following year. I don't think physical aspects are exactly what they mean but I could be wrong.
Keep in mind though that the question specifically asks for NON ACADEMIC areas that need improvement.

For the small group setting essay, how many people exceeded 1000 characters?.

.
If they want to be invited for interviews, they don't. Following directions counts, guys. The limits are there for a reason.

a few questions

1) I stupidly only clicked to apply to the college track but wanted to apply to both the college and university track. what do i do?
Call the UP admissions office and ask them to add you for a UP app.

2) If i do manage to get it switched, do i have to write the essay unique to the university track? it's really similar to the one required by the college track, so does if you apply to both, do you have to fill out the university track essay?
No, we have extra essays on top of theirs. If you've written all the CCLCM essays, you are set for the UP too.

3) this question might not matter if i am able to add on to the university program, but when i submitted my supplementary app, I already had all my documents in, etc, but it still said my application wasn't complete. Most school that I have applied to update it by the next day etc with a status change on the site and an email. I got neither from Case. I had a fee waiver and never had to click submit payment, so the process kinda ended abruptly. I was wondering if I had to do something else.

Thanks for all the help in advance!
I'd give them 1-2 weeks and then call if you're still not complete.

A topic I will not let die.

What does the 18th or 19th of September look like to everyone?
Myuu, CCLCMer?
Nor should you let it die. 🙂

The 18th would be better for me. I'll be at the hospital all day Sunday and can't predict when I'll get off very precisely.

No note packets, no syllabi. We do something at CCLCM that is apparently kind of unusual for medical students, which is read textbooks. 😛

Generally what happens is that you choose your own sources for PBL assignments. For seminars, the faculty teaching the seminar will assign you readings, generally from a textbook or sometimes from review articles. If it's a basic science talk, they might also assign you some research articles.

Awesome! I think that's a really neat middle ground between pure lecture and pure PBL.
I agree. The seminars and PBL cases complement each other pretty nicely, IMO.

I'm game if Myuu is.

By the way, make sure you have your walking shoes on for Monday. Besides the fact that CCF is twice the size of the Pentagon, I'm a fast walker. I usually don't give tours actually--I've been accused of death-marching the applicants. :meanie:

Ok, so seriously, the tour is an hour and 15 minutes long, and the floors are slick. Please, if you're a girl, DON'T WEAR HEELS ON THE TOUR!

does anyone have any stats on how many people interview, how many are accepted, and how many people matriculate?
For CCLCM, last year we had approximately 1500 applications, invited around 300 to interview, and gave out 60ish acceptances to fill the class of 32. Likely this year we will have more than 1500 apps, will invite around 200 to interview, and unknown how many acceptances will go out.

Woah, what an AAAANTIQUATED method of learning! 😉 (jkjkjk) Really though, I would be so much more than excited to go there... I think the mantra of "we created the school we would want to go to" is totally true.

Aww but what if myuu isn't but Auriga is? 😛 Haha.

I'm down for some power walkin!

Sorry to hear about that. When were you complete?

I was complete on 8/6/10, so it took them a while to finally make the decision. I'm glad that they at least considered it thoroughly. My kind of school. 🙄

I was complete on 8/4 😴 but I applied to both programs.

I hope a long wait doesn't mean bad news.

Oh, I'm in. The trouble is finding a venue on that day.😳

Nah, keep hope alive!:luck:

Anyone get off hold yet? I'm wondering if they re-review each time they go over apps or if they're going to wait till later on in the cycle.

just got an interview invite for UP! I'm super excited about that, even though I did also just get rejected from CP...

does anyone know if most applicants stay with and how we can get student hosts? do we just email the people we would like to stay with on the list of potential hosts?

cyanide congratulations on your interview, I would love to be in your position! Maybe soon....? :xf: I've been looking through last year's thread and all I can say is wow, I would Love love love to get an interview from this school. I feel like the current students there are so informative here on sdn and helpful of all questions; if that is what the atmosphere is like at the school then that is definately awesome! 🙂

Case re-reviews apps periodically.:luck:

That's exactly how it works!😀

Congrats! When were you complete??

Sounds like we have the case big hitters down for some skating! Sweet 🙂.

BTW, I recall people saying that one shouldn't take the Red Line too late.. is 630ish too late?

Also, we don't have to bring any pictures with us for this school do we? I didn't remember reading that for the last school I interviewed at but it was required so I wanna make sure I don't mess that up this time lol.

Getting really nervous for my interviews Monday and Tuesday... the more I read about CCLCM, the more I fall in love with the program. Any current students have words of advice for the interview, or things I should spend more time focusing on to prepare?

Well, we're good for skating if I can find a venue that'll be open for public skating at a suitable post-interview hour.😀

The red line at this time of year, which is to say before it gets really dark really early, should be fine.

And no, you submitted a photo as a component of your secondary application, so you won't need to bring one. I remember OSU wanting that a couple of years back, though....

As stated somewhere in this thread, I'm a girl and I take the red line pretty regularly by myself pretty late in the evening. Sitting near the conductor has always been fine for me. I usually have someone meet me getting off the train because that usually the worst part. But I have heard of some scary stories... but I don't think any of them have been time of day dependent.... nor where they robberies or anything... just fights/arguments.

6:30pm is pretty much still near rush hour so you should be fine.

Ah I'm glad I don't have to worry about the pics this time lol.

I think I should be fine 🙂

If we can't find a venue for skating, I'd really enjoy being able to like check out food or something else awesome in the area to hear more candid student opinions on the schools!

Awesome, thanks!! I looked at the map and I was like... I think I should be fine as long as I don't get mugged under the bridge hahahaha. I'm not quite a typical mugging victim anyway...

I do have PD tomorrow night at 530...so skating is out for me. If you decide to do something else btw 230 and 530, I'm down! Either way, I'll poke my head in 😉

Could someone post what the interviewing schedule is like, more or less?

You should have access to that one.:d

Also, re: skating: check your PMs

So exciting to see you guys interviewing! I will see you guys in about two weeks with my eggplant stickers 😛

Co-planner vc7777777777777 what do you think?

...

Grrrr...so...the first years at CCLCM have all of next week off...and the end-of-block has kept me off the forum...sorry!
I shall be out of state till the start of our cardiology block start on the 27th.

So, we really should gather a fund together for these:
Imagine it: Case Med / SDN, complete with logos....epic.
Stress relievers for the long painful waits during admission season.
But $50 setting price is waaaaaaaaay too steep...we should establish a SDN student interest group so we can get funding for it
(kidding, of course, but amusing concept!)

Wait is that actually you in your avatar? I am so confuseddd! haha. edit: lol I guess you mean literally mug as in to drink out of?

I think I may walk from the Glidden house tomorrow... good idea? Should take 20-30 minutes? Seems like the health line takes almost as long as walking.

Well, tbh, next weekend is a little fast for planning anyhow. Sorry I am teh sux at planninating. Perhaps a bonfire and eggplant roast would work for the first weekend in October? As a co-president of the planning committee, I cannot allow you to be skipping town during the big event ;P

If that works, then let's actually PLAN it and set an official day/time/location/coordinating outfit color scheme for the big bonanza. 👍

Let's do it. For real. My molcajete is safely in cleveland now...so I'm ready to whip up some sort of fantastic guacamole for said event...and I promsie this time there'll be more salt! 😉

For the research essay, if you had more than 1 research project/hypotehsis, do you write about all of them or just one?

I kind of did a mosaic of my different experiences. You can go either way on it, but really how much technical detail do you really need? I think its probably better summarizing each, as opposed to adding detail.

That's what I ended up doing but then I realized maybe they just want one. The downside of doing a mosaic is you probably won't have time to full answer the things they asked in the question.

If i remember correctly, I think they gave you a pretty generous character limit?

The bridge is fine. If you get off at the University Circle stop, turn left off the train and head down the stairs. It's right at a bus stop where usually a good chunk of people around (and then you don't even have to go under the bridge). But only take that route if you are going towards the intercontinental hotel or the cleveland clinic. [[I don't know what hotel CWRU recommends for you... otherwise I can give even better directions 😀]]

Quick note:

We at the Clinic (CP) just received our stethoscopes donated by the Madachy family, through their foundation in memory of their son Jason, www.jasonmadachyfoundation.org, and many faculty donations. We have all been deeply touched and moved by their collective generosity and philanthropy. 😍👍

Sweetness! I simply must witness the crushing power of your heirloom in action. We will send many an avocado to its mushy delicious doom.

So now we call upon the illustrious ladies Myuu & CCLCMer to give suggestions as to the where of this event...

****
Eggplant potluck aside...
Congrats and good luck to those interviewing this week! I saw a number of extremely well-dressed individuals in the halls today - outshining even those of us who are dressed nicely for PD/RAMP.
I tried to make my way up to visit....but the speed of my classmates BOLTING out the door btw first and second lecture today was maddening. I didn't want to add to the feeding frenzy - which hopefully they didn't intimidate any of the interviewees with their sheer numbers! 😉
