Are the facilities shared though? It sounds like there isn't a private gym for grad/med students. Is there a library?

I have to admit, having undergrad so close to the med school is a little bit of a downside for Case.

there does seem to be libraries abound, including the health sciences library and CC alumni library. perhaps there are ones that undergrads aren't aware of/don't really go to?

and as for the gym, i think you are also eligible for membership at the CCF fitness center, although there is a fee for that. i don't know if CCLCM vs Case makes a difference as far as that goes. i also don't know how private the CCF fitness center is, if that is just for faculty/staff/students or if its also for patients/etc. that could be something to look into.

personally, i'll happily work out with undergrads to go to Case/CCLCM!

At Ohio State our medical school is practically on top of the undergraduate campus (as an undergrad I've had a good number of classes in the medical school buildings). Since I've loved every minute of undergrad here, I thought that close proximity between med school and the ugrads would be awesome.

But then I interviewed at Wright State, and even though I'm still in undergrad, the shared campus setup they have turned me off. I don't really know why, either. Maybe I've become elitist without even knowing.

Hopefully I just didn't click with Wright State and it has nothing to do with its undergraduate campus next door.

I don't think it's elitist at all. There is a significant difference in the mindset and attitude of many med students and many undergrads. There is nothing wrong with that at all, it's just that med students probably want a different learning environment than most undergrads. I could imagine it would be a little frustrating to try to study anatomy in a library where freshmen kept congregating to talk with their friends on study breaks. It's just two completely different lifestyles, and learning environment is a big part of the educational process. Given that, I think it would be nice to have separate facilities, but separate campuses are not as necessary.

I don't think it's being an elitist. I think Wright State vs OSU exemplifies how different schools and atmospheres can vary depending on size, campus, location, population, etc. Briefly/superficially comparing them, aside from being shared campuses, they seem as far different as they can get.

whatever floats your boat is what is important here.

True there isn't a private gym for just med/grad students, but there is 1-2-1 Fitness which is ~2min walk from the med school. The membership there is not free like it is at Veale Gym, however there are almost no undergrads there and it is usually quite empty (except for other grad students). Generally undergrads don't want to pay for a gym membership when Veale is free. That being said, you don't have to get a membership at 1-2-1, Veale is fine for most stuff (I'm a 1-2-1 member since I also don't want to have to compete with undergrads for equipment time).

The health sciences library is directly attached to the med school and is usually deathly quiet and only used by the medical, dental, nursing students. The undergrads have their own library that they like to congregate at.

I can't comment about the CCF gym as I've never been there.

👍 I totally agree. I like my quiet as well 😀 Assuming that you plan to study at the health science library (since its directly attached to the med school), boisterous undergrads are not a problem.

Speaking personally, I think that the proximity of the undergrad is the perfect balance of seclusion and inclusion. You aren't going to be distracted by tons of undergrads, but you are still close enough to the main campus that you feel like a part of the school.

For the record, the undergrad library is a phenomenal place to study, if you're looking for some med-student-free isolation.👍

QFT. I like not feeling completely isolated from the university, it gives it a feeling of being part of a grand institution, but I don't generally see any undergrads around the med school building. The library is superquiet. TBH I didn't even know which part of campus was the undergrad for a while...95% of us don't pass through there at all - except once to get our ID's. But you'll see if you interview here and stop to take a look at how it is organized. I like it.

CCLCM students have a lovely, albeit limited hours, library available to them a floor above our school (as many applicants have seen on their interview day). It is mainly residents and other healthcare professionals there, since there are very few med students.

And for the record, our CCF Gym membership fee is actually paid for by the college. 👍

:sendoff:

holddd uppp. who went about deleting posts? was that you Myuu, using your mod powers? i thought we were about moving Case forward, not stumbling.

i so hit top post this afternoon

that's what i thought i heard, but i wasn't positive.

another lovely perk of being a CCLCM student
😍

I can attest to the wonderfulness of the CCLCM library, I would spend more time there if it wasn't so far from my apartment.

SIDENOTE: epic fail on my part for not noticing the easy "top" post. Kind of shocking that the thread was stuck on my post #1600 for 5 hours before vc7777 noticed and nailed the top. I don't know if you can call that a ninja-ing though. It's alright though, I'll take the assist, the thread is still young... 😀

Why, Seven, that's a big accusation to make of my dear ninja friend! Besides, one doesn't have to have ninja mod powers, you know? As they say, "membership has it's privileges". :meanie:

I can vouch for seven. He/she definitely had the top spot... some of the posts were def deleted! lol

oh yes, i knew. i believe my initial question asked the general audience if any of its members deleted several posts. i proceeded to ask a second question specific to Myuu, as my brain recalled a post from last year's thread accusing Myuu of similar tomfoolery (although at the time of reading that post, i was unaware if anyone was vindicated). 😛

i did, however, greatly enjoy the opportunity to use the red-card smiley. never did i think i would actually be able to :woot: (or that one as well!)

thanks Acoustic! i almost thought i was going crazy when that first went down... it couldn't have just been me. 😉

a) I don't need mod privileges to achieve tomfoolery.
b) Wasn't me!
c) 🙁
d) 😡

I think the committee is meeting this week right? Does that mean we might hear back about a decision this week? Anticipation...

^That's what it sounded like at my interview. They said they're meeting today so we could hear back shortly, in theory.

I noticed the posts were deleted too. I'm so curious to know which ones! 😱 I had it up replying/reading and when I posted, suddenly someone else was on top. 😵 I'm sure it was a well-meaning individual with the magic wand. That said, I didn't see anything super-sensational on the page before, just some discussion about the medschool/undergrad dynamics.

Okay, wait, detective Auriga is on the case. He has a Vegas marquee arrow sign pointing at himself....what if vc7^4 can delete his OWN posts? (He's a donor, maybe they get special maneuvers?) Then he can delete some of his OWN previous post-padding to cause a frameshift mutation in which his post rises to the top of the evolutionary tree! No wonder he's fond of padding! He's a NETGENETIC ENGINEER! Get him! :roflcopter:

(I've never used that smiley and have long wanted to; thanks for providing me with an excuse to do so.)

And I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky casmed kids!

Not sent from my cell phone 😏

Sneaky, sneaky... and to think, I almost gave you kudos! :nono:

'After further review, the ruling on the field is overturned. There are no points awarded to the "top" of page 33' :caution: .

I think that Dr. Wiesner would be proud of your frameshift reference.

well i'm not sure it'll help those of you post interview hoping to hear something but rejected college track. Sad face.

fingers crossed for university 😀

Finally got off hold for interview! Very excited to be coming back to Cleveland. After working at Metro for a summer, Case was always where I wanted to go for medical school. 😀

has anyone from the Nov 2nd interview group heard anything yet? they were supposed to decide yesterday right?

high levels of anxiety.

CCLM and Case Western interviews coming up this week. They're my first ones and I'm starting to get nervous. Any advice from people that have interviewed already?

First of all, congrats! I interviewed for the UP in early October. My advice would be to just relax and have fun. It's a long interview day but definitely the best I've been on. You'll get lots of opportunity to talk to students and faculty, and the admissions staff are the nicest I've met. Faculty interview is open file, so you'll basically just go through your info. Student interview is pretty chill, but you can tell they've been coached on things to ask because now and then you'll get a question like "teach me something" or "explain your research to me as if I have absolutely no science background." The tour is long-ish, and it's towards the end of the day, so your feet might be hurting already. Bring comfy shoes if necessary! Also, if your interviews are both in the afternoon, go to an IQ session and/or lecture during your free time in the morning. The students seemed super used to seeing interviewees being herded around, and didn't really give us a second glance when we were cowering in the back of the lecture hall.

I'd say, most importantly, bring a list of every question that has ever crossed your mind about Case. You'll be asked 50 times throughout the day if you have any questions.

Finally, the lunch we got was kind of blah....cold turkey sandwiches, an apple, and cookies. Bring a granola bar or a PB&J if that lunch doesn't sound appealing.

Have fun and good luck!

Thx a lot! I'm interviewing this Friday too, and it also happens to be my FIRST interview. Really excited!

Yikes! We slipped to the second page 😱

Phew. All is well again. 😎

congrats on the acceptances!
