I was put on a pre-interview hold sometime in October, and when I called them today I was told that all the pre-interview hold applications would be reviewed in the coming weeks. We should have some sort of interview decision (they hope) by the new year.

I am in the same shoes, have been on hold since october and having heard a peep. I'll probably call today just to show I'm still interested and send my final grades whenever they are finally posted.
But thanks for the info, I was beginning to think I was the only one out there in the pre interview hold pool.
I'll be optimistic and happily holler a Merry Christmas/Happy holidays to everyone on this thread 🙂

high hold here also. Mine says nothing about re-reviewing at future meetings...I wonder if we got the same message?

Does everyone get on this list or is it selective?

Hahaha I had to read that like 3 times before I could understand. Tricky combination of words/syntax. Maybe Dean Franco writes an individual (but somewhat formulaic) letter to everyone and you just haven't gotten it yet, because I got mine like 2 days after the other poster.
 
I also got the High Hold list notice: "You have been placed on our ‘High Hold List'. This list consists of highly qualified applicants, some of whom will be admitted as the application process unfolds."

When one is placed on this high hold list, what are the chances that one will get in based on previous year's experience?

Also, does anyone know how many people are there on the High Hold List?

Also, how is this High Hold List different from a Waiting List??
 
Technically high holds could be accepted at the next meeting, that is, in a few weeks. A waiting list is when all slots have been offered to applicants and further acceptances will only happen as people decline. CCLCM has yet to offer all available 32 slots.

I will be in interviewing at the end of January. Do you have any idea how many slots will be left then? I'd hate to interview for a waitlist position.
 
IIRC neither CP nor UP interview for the waitlist.

Just got the "high hold." The letter was super nice, though: "You have been placed on our “High Hold List”. This list consists of highly qualified applicants, some of whom will be admitted as the application process unfolds...Your application and interview were very favorable. Some prior years we would be certain you would have received an offer by the end of the interview period based on your rating. You are within the top group for any openings that become available. We should know by April 15th."

Doesn't really help me figure out whether or not I should biochem though. D'oh.

Not that I'm a master of verbiage, but the bold part sounds like the high priority waitlist to me. Maybe someone will be willing to call and confirm?

Totes agree with the bch part tho... if they don't want me, I would rather find out sooner than later, because there are a lot of extracurriculars or other personal-interest classes I would love to replace biochem's time commitment with. If they do want me, it's all good tho; I loved CCLCM A LOT--like anyone else who interviewed there, I reckon.

That's what I'm hoping, but trying not to. Though that "in some previous years bit..." is awfully hopeful-sounding. Blah.

And if i'm actually accepted, would I really care that I had to wait until June to scurry back across the country in order to finish up a silly biochem class? Not at all.

Another poster above wondered if they sent out different emails to various High Hold people...I think he may be right! This message is differently worded than the one I got. Hopefully we will all hear good news soon from CCLCM!! :luck::luck::luck:
 
Is there a high hold status for UP people? As you can tell by the question, obviously I didn't get high hold for UP, is such a hold exists. Also, I'm really psyched about this school and I desperately want to get in, do anyone know typically how many people the UP track takes from the waitlist? I don't want to get my hopes up for this school and then get heartbroken again in April.

The wording seems to imply that there is a hold category and then there's an alternate list?

We put people on hold until the waitlist (alternate list) is created in March.

There's not really a number we can give you. It fluctuates a lot from year to year, because it depends on how many people get directly admitted, and it depends on how many people then withdraw before the waitlist is made up in March. In past years, around 65 +/- 10 people have been admitted in all. Some come from the waitlist though, so they weren't all on high hold.

Also, does anyone know how many people are there on the High Hold List?

High hold or hold means that your app is still under review and no final decision has been made yet. A hold or high hold could later turn into an acceptance, a rejection, or a waitlist. Whereas, waitlist is a final decision. Being waitlisted means that all 32 seats have already been filled, and the only way you could be accepted is if someone else withdraws. Obviously, acceptance and rejection are also final decisions.

Being on high hold is a good thing. It means you're in the group that was given the highest scores by the adcomm, and therefore you have the highest chance of being accepted. That being said, it does NOT guarantee that you'll be accepted. Likewise, a regular hold does not mean that you'll necessarily not be accepted. There were some high hold people last year who didn't end up getting in, and some regular hold people who did get in.

Finally, it is NOT true that anyone interviews at CCLCM for the waitlist. The reason why we're semirolling (give out acceptances in three bunches) rather than rolling is to guarantee that there will still be some seats open for the people who interview in February. Only about 1/3 of the class is filled when each group of acceptances is given out, and the class will not be filled until after every interview is done.
 
I just got invited for an interview too! One of the last dates available, but I'll take it! I'm really excited, because I did not think Case would look at me tbh!

Are letters of interest/updates looked upon favorably at CCLCM? If so, who should I email it to, Dean Franco or the faculty that interviewed me?

LOIs and updates should be sent to Dr. Franco, and not your interviewer.

Updates can be sent at anytime. LOIs should not be sent until you are placed on the waitlist (after the last of three rounds of full committee meetings).

Would sending an email to [email protected] be okay (that is, will it get to Dean Franco)? I wanted to send a quick reply to the hold letter I received, and that's the address listed in the letter.
 
Um, sooo....I just looked at the "high hold" letter from CCLCM and it no longer says what I posted above...now it just says that I'm on the "hold" list: "Applicants who are still being considered for acceptance go into the "Hold" category. I will make offers to that group after we know how many applicants will matriculate on July 5, 2011. The date I will know that is April 15, 2011, so you will hear from me sometime after that date." This sounds much less hopeful than the original letter...any idea why they would have changed it?

That is strange. Mine did the same thing, and yes, this new one sounds much less hopeful 🙁
 
Did everyone who interviewed at CCLCM in November receive some sort of status update (hold/acceptance)? I haven't heard anything :/

Hi, I was also admitted a little more than a month ago, and have been extensively reading over the CCLCM website. I was hoping some of the CCLCM students could answer some questions I had.

1. How is the no tests, only PBL curriculum? Do you feel worried you are not learning? Do you like the structure of learning environment?
2. How easy is it to find research in the area you like? Do you feel like CCLCM offers their students good advising and attention? I forgot if you were allowed to choose your summer research advisor or if they get assigned to you?
3. How stressed out are you on a general basis? Do you still have time to enjoy and have fun? Outside of med school, do you still have time to travel and engage in other pursuits? Does "visiting a friend out of town one weekend" still happen?
4. Do you miss being in a larger college environment? Do you like your classmates? Does everyone get along?
 
I will see if I can get some other current first years to respond as well... this requires a keyboard...I will respond when I get online tonight!

I *did* ask questions at the time! But the tour afterwards kind of blew my mind...I mean, one of the hospital entrances is preceded by 6 reflecting pools??!?

Haha, I also remember how when we got to the anatomy lab, our student tour guide mentioned that the anatomy teacher at CCLCM was an author of Gray's Anatomy. As if that wasn't shocking enough, he goes "Oh, and here he comes!" It was like a slow-motion film, as he walked towards us interviewees and we struggled to not to drop our jaws/pounce on him (I kind of wanted to ask for his autograph, is that dorky?).

Honestly, my interview day was a great experience, albeit very stressful since it was my first interview. I remember everyone at the school emphasizing that you really need to find out if this program is for you, and that PBL isn't for everyone. I hope to make an informed choice and any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

As a fellow applicant, I think of PBL as being like working on homework with friends. But in terms of problem sets and projects, not like basic bio memorization.
