CONGRATULATIONS!!! How did you feel after the interview? Did you send any updates or LOI? I just interviewed here last week and I'm really excited / nervous to hear back!

Honestly I felt my faculty interviewer didn't go that well! It was rather short, he didn't ask me many questions and he was talking a lot about the school. I did really enjoy my student interview however so I had mixed feelings. After my interview I sent an update about my grades..so definitely send updates!!

Post is too quiet. Anyone know if the class is full? I sent an update letter a little over a month ago telling them about my new job responsibilities and reiterating my interest in their school. I just found out that my publication that had been pending publication is going to be published in June. Should I send another letter?

btw im on the alternate list and would be stoked to go to GW

I would definitely send them another letter and reiterate your interest in attending. I am totally stoked to go! I hope to see you in August 🙂

waitlisted 🙁 GW is my top-choice. I know this has probably been asked before but are there any post-interview rejections or does everyone get waitlisted?

sorry if I missed this from an earlier post, but when did you interview? Did you just hear from them today?

+1 🙁 even though I expected this

Mind if I ask what your stats are?

And I'm not sure if there are post-interview rejections. I've been trying to ask for a while and no one seems to know. Doesn't seem like there are, and people are either accepted or WL'd...

Just called and I was told over the phone that a decision was made and I should be receiving an email within a day or two. I also interviewed on 2/4 and am wondering what this means....there's a couple ppl here who already heard back so why the delay in getting my email out? I just have a really bad feeling that this is a waitlist email...anyone else had an experience like this???

where you leaning aliblack if you don't mind me asking? Drexel and GW are both nice. Any waitlisters going crazy? I certainly am. Do you think that schools are more or less likely to accept waitlisters that hold acceptances at other md programs?

I'm gonna stay on the waitlist because I figure it would be good to have options, but at this point I really don't know if I would pick GW over Drexel if I got the chance. I like the location (proximity to family) and the cost of Drexel better but I think GW is potentially the better "fit." We shall see..

Wish I was in your predicament. No word from drexel but really liked the campus and phili. waitlisted @ gw that's my first choice as of right now. Upcoming interview @ wayne state.

So I have a friend who works in Washington, and he heard a rumor that GWU gives "preference" to locals...

I'm not sure how this can be true because GWU is a private school, but does anyone have any insight? I put "preference" in quotes because my thought is that, if they do, it must be minimal, and only post-interview when deciding between two equally qualified candidates...

Any opinions on letters of intent? "if accepted I WILL go to your school" along those lines.

Any opinions on letters of intent? "if accepted I WILL go to your school" along those lines.

I wrote a letter of intent after my interview (I actually emailed it to them the next day). I didn't say exactly "if accepted I will come," but I did say "I would be thrilled to accept a place in the GW class of 2015," and made clear that GW had become my first choice. I also updated them with what I've done since my initial application, expressed what I really enjoyed about my visit to the school, and also why I think I am a good fit for GW.

Good luck! :luck:

If you want I can PM you my letter.

When did you interview? Before you start writing letters, it might be a good idea to call the admissions office and ask if a decision has already been made on your file.

Do you have a pre-medical advisor or someone from your university or employment that you can talk to about letters of intent? I ask this because, though there is a LOT of good advice on this website, I think it's always safer to direct these sorts of questions to a professional. With regards to letters of intent, I would ONLY send one if you are ABSOLUTELY certain that you would attend GWU if they offered you a position (and by absolutely, I mean, you aren't sitting on a waitlist for some dream school that would change everything if they offered you admission in early-August). This type of thing has the potential to get you in HUGE trouble...

For those who will be attending GWU next year and others interested. Proud to say this year's class did very well in match.

Highlights include matching 4 in Dermatology, 14 in Anesth (Yale, PennX2,Columbia,Cornell,Pitt), Internal Med (BrownX3,UCSDX2,Beth Israel,Brigham and Womens,Emory,UVA,Stanford,Cornell,Michigan),Radiology (Hopkins,Beth Israel,Michigan,Chicago,UVA),Urology (Yale). Only doing it from memory, pretty sure official list will be posted online at some point. Congrats.

Hey guys, I'm an out-of-stater currently with a car. I was wondering if it would be cheaper EITHER to live out of the city and bring my car to commute OR to live close to the school and use the Metro as my primary means of transportation (and leave/sell my car) ??

From what I was told during the interview, you don't really need a car your first two years. Parking around the school is wicked expensive and there aren't many spots. From the apartments I've been seeing in foggy bottom vs VA/MD, its about a $100-200 difference a month. If you can budget gas/insurance/maintenance/etc to be less than that then go ahead and live out of state and save some $$$.

even if you live in md/va you can still use the metro as primary transportation depending on where you live. Crystal city/bethesda/balston area you can pretty much walk to wherever and metro to anywhere else.

Sorry if this is silly (it's my first acceptance) - but once receiving the acceptance form and after signing it and sending that back..do we receive additional info such as financial aid, deposit info, etc? Or should I be doing something myself?

send in your transcripts too!

sorry if this was asked earlier - what's the difference between being waitlisted vs. selected as an alternate at GW? If there is a difference, which is the "better" position to be in (ie- more likely to ultimately receive an acceptance)?

They are the same.

Everyone who is placed on the alternate list--did you get an email asking whether you still want to stay on the list?

Also, even if I state that I want to stay on the list, I probably won't hear back until May 15, right?

Yeah I think we all got it. They said there could be movement before May 15, but who knows how much..

Removed my application from the alternative list

Good Luck to all.

we likely won't hear much until the week before may 15. i think there will be significant movement based on the number of applications they get, but we'll see.

One would think, however last year there were only a handful (2-3 if I remember correctly) of SDNers taken from the list... Possible that many more were and didn't post or werent on SDN, but who knows. Last year there seemed to be little movement on many WLs. I don't want to ruin anyone's hopes, I am just saying if the WL at GWU is your only chance it would be prudent to consider your options for next year.

GL to all. I stayed in the pool but will likely withdraw if accepted. I just want to keep my options open for the time being.

got the alternate list email this morning, interviewed 2/11

does this mean the alternate list emails weren't send out at one time? i wonder if there's a meaning behind it... or maybe dragonfly11 didn't check his/her email until this morning?!

Withdrew from the alternate list yesterday. Good luck to everyone else!

haha I don't know what it means, but the email was sent at 9:05 this morning

Dragonfly had a later interview date. I bet this was the first decision from GWU that he/she received. Dragonfly didn't get the original "do you want to remain on the waitlist" because he/she wasn't on the waitlist at that point. That's my hypothesis.

Wow. Went through the alternates thread from last year. Super disappointing. Hopefully we'll have better luck this year!

unless I'm missing it. I don't see any ortho? They had like 10 in 2010. Weird. Guess no one wanted to be a bone doc

Yeah I noticed that as well. I guess ortho wasn't a popular choice with c/o 2011 lol.

Has anyone heard anything today? Seems like they send stuff out on
Thursdays.

nvm I read it wrong but I still feel like it went up a decent amount relative to the budgets from last year.

Alternate list here

Interviewed 2/24

We'll see how it goes...

Alternated. Interviewed 2/24. Fml 🙁

Same. To be perfectly honest, I haven't seen an acceptance posted on here in weeks (I think the last interview group to show an acceptance was the first week of February), and I can't imagine that there wouldn't be anyone from 3 weeks of interviews with an acceptance so to me, this means they probably don't have any acceptances left to offer right now (until people drop). Thoughts?
