If i want to withdraw my acceptance, should I email or mail it in writing?
Email; it's faster and less chance of it getting lost. Or you could call anonymously and ask them.

Has anybody received an acceptance packet from this round of acceptances?

I can't remember exactly what I sent: I sent a legal disclosure, something from the Dean of Students, and I had to apply on some website online. All the directions should be there, just send them everything back to be safe ha ha.

Actually, after I read and reread the email, I realized that they would schedule an interview before they receive the letters of evaluation. they would download the letters a few weeks before the interview. The only document that they may require before scheduling is the legal disclosure form. No more confusion!

I received mine today. I live in Indiana so the post was pretty quick in getting to my house. If you've read my previous post, I thought I put my mailing address to my house at my college university. Apparently not. I'm pumped though, IU is my first choice.

Hey guys!
I'm currently a first year at IUSM so if you have any questions about anything, feel free to PM me. I wanted to let you know that if you're looking for housing, I'm looking for roommates for next year. I live in a 4 person house about 10-15 minutes away from school. It's a great place to live so if you're interested, let me know!

Does Indiana know if Indiana streams the lectures online? And if the main campus has all day lectures and is the attendance mandatory?

I know the Indy campus records lectures and posts them online.

My question is, does anybody know if the satellite campuses (Bloomington, Lafayette, Muncie etc.) have access to the recorded lectures from the Indy campus. I'm assuming the satellite campuses do not record their own lectures..

Oh congrats!!! Excited for you!

Lectures are online and attendance is not mandatory at lectures in Indy (it is mandatory at the small-group classes). You can see the schedule if you look at msa.iusm.iu.edu .

The different campuses have a curriculum that ends up being about the same over 2 years, but the scheduling is different in terms of what classes are taken when. Some have block scheduling, some have PBLs, some have year-long courses. So I don't know how helpful it would be to have Indianapolis lectures available (although I believe they are available).

Hey Everyone!
I have been accepted into IU! The letter, which was dated November 15, was received today! Its such a relief to type "acceptance" and "I" in the same sentence. For those who are still waiting, keep the faith. And for reapplicants, there's hope! So, my next question is, "what's the next step?" After we send in our "acceptance to the offer", will we receive any more correspondance? For example, campus choices? When will that be provided? And ofcourse, when is tuition due? Any M1s or other years feel free to answer 🙂

Big Hugs,
G.S.Wolff

I have a question regarding which campus IU places you at. I have been accepted and I have sent them a letter saying it was a privilege to accept their acceptance. I went ahead and ranked the campuses in that letter, I put the Indianapolis campus as one and the Bloomington campus as number two. I live in Indianapolis--that was my main reason for putting that as number one. Do you think they will put me there, or what factors do they consider?

After you send your offer acceptance letter, they will mail you some documents that you have to sign and complete, one of which is the campus assignment questionnaire. According to that form you have 2 choices- you can either rank all the campuses (NOT including Indianapolis) 1-8, or you can choose the Indianapolis campus. If you choose the latter, there will be a lottery sometime next year, IIRC its in April. If you are selected during the lottery then youll get the indy campus, but if you are not, then you will be randomly assigned to one of the other 8 campuses. Typically about 35% of the students that choose option 2 get randomly assigned to one of the satellite campuses. If you choose option 1, youll most likely get your #1 or 2 choice, this early you can probably get your #1 choice and you can find out sooner.

I interviewed late September and it looks like I still have some more waiting to do. Based on how the selection process was explained to me (a score is made based on GPA/MCAT/interview and top X number of applicants are reviewed each month), it seems like even if you interview your application may never get reviewed. That is to say each month more interviewees can be added on top of you and your score is never high enough to be looked at. Am I misunderstanding this process?
Also, has anyone had luck writing a letter of update/interest post-interview?

I interviewed Sept. 2 and still haven't heard from IU. What you say sounds correct.

I dont really feel this score system is the exact system IU uses. I thought so as well; thats why I felt I had no chance of acceptance. I interviewed in late september. But I was accepted so I feel they must look at other stuff as well. Just my two cents.

Finally got accepted. For those of you who haven't heard back, send an interest or update letter or something. Also email your interviewers and express your 'love' for IU. The supposed system that everyone thinks they use isn't exactly what they use. Your individual application matters and how you'll fit into the school. The committee meets at the end of every month, so send them something before their next meeting to increase your chances/likelihood for the December 15 offers. Good luck everyone. And btw, am OOS

No word from IU yet, interviewed Aug25..
I wonder what's going on, they told me to expect to hear Oct 15 or Nov 15.
Do you think it would It be alright if I called them to check to status of my app?
Thanks!

Is this a new thing? I thought at the info session they told us how campus selection worked, and said that we ranked them all 1-9. I don't remember anything about the two choices.

No. This is correct:
"Campus assigments begin November and will conclude hopefully by May.
Path I: Campus 1-8
Path II: Indiannapolis
For those who select Path II, there will be a lotter an April. Only 65% of students that choose Indy get in. " Therefore, they encourage that it we choose Path I because students will get their first or second choice.

Ok, indiana is my top choice right now. I was reading last years thread and heard that indiana med students tend to be extremely competitive. Can somebody elaborate on that for me?

Divajai: Interesting question. A friend of mine, who is an IU M1, never mentioned the competitiveness. She emphasized that both faculty and students were very helpful. However, I'd like to hear other prospectives.

Accepted 11/15 -- In-State, 29Q, 4.0 -- IU is top choice! On to campus selection...

Edit: Interviewed 10/6

Well I have decided to do the lottery for Indianapolis...now I have to wait 5 months and only have 2/3 chance of even getting it.

Hey, In my opinion I think you have about about a 70% chance of getting in. Your MCAT is excellent!! However, the MCAT is a one day performance and many would argue that GPA is a better estimator of whether or not you are capable of surviving medical school...Which is probably why you have not been accepted yet. The average GPA for IUSM matriculants will be about 3.75 this year and 3.21 is considerably lower. But, perhaps your clinical experiences, volunteer work, and extracurriculars can compensate for your GPA. If you have your interviewers contact information, it certainly would not hurt to write a letter thanking them and ensuring they know you are very interested in IUSM. My understanding is that rejection letters are sent out periodically while acceptance packets are mailed out the 15th of every month via "snail mail."

I feel your pain.

I got an interview invitation today for January. Any advice would be appreciated...thanks!

What do you all think my chances of acceptance are? My cGPA is 3.65, sGPA 3.63, MCAT 28, already interviewed and that seemed to go well.

Interview for Jan. 5 (might be with you, Maiden). IS 3.93c 3.95s 35O

Accepted on 11/15... OOS with very strong in-state ties

Now to decide on the regional campus.

For those of you were invited to interview, were you notified by email when your supplemental materials were received? Or is there any way to check your status online? Thanks!!

After paying online for the supp app I received an e-mail saying "You have successfully submitted your application for admission." This was followed by my application number. I'm not sure how to check the status of your application on IU's website. Maybe somebody else can offer you some advice on this.

Congratulations, again! It is an accomplishment to be accepted OOS even though you have strong in-state ties. For selection of campus, how do they prioritize students as far as selection goes? Is it a rolling process?

Good Luck to all applicants!! Hopefully, I will be seeing you join the IUSM Class of 2015 Facebook page soon!

To my knowledge, IU does not have a web page to check one's status. best bet would be to either call by phone or contact by e-mail.

It sounds like for the Indy campus "lottery" it's not a rolling process because they wait until spring to do the assignments. On the other hand, it sounds like it is rolling if you elect to attend one of the regional campuses.

After acceptance, you decide whether you want to try to attend the Indy campus or rank your preference of the various regional campuses. It's one or the other.
