Does anyone know BU's average USMLE Step 1 score?

Both step 1 and step 2 above national average, don't remember exact stats, always fluctuates a little each year.
Here's a match list from this year.

Graduating in May. PM me if you want to buy a $1000 mattress/box spring for $200.

Okay so I just went through last years thread:
March 23: rejections went out
March 24: acceptance calls start
March 25: more acceptance calls
March 26: a few more acceptances and status page changes, wait list notifications
March 27: wait list notifications
March 28: some accepted via email, some more wait list

Based on last years thread it seems as though the rejections go out first and are then followed by a scattering of acceptance calls (from interviewers and not all of them called) and wait lists.

Good luck to everyone, hope the next week brings good news!

In 2010, everything came out about a week later, I believe, and went into April. Also, I think for them, acceptances went out before rejections.
Just a note.

I didn't look at 2010 thanks! Im just trying to find a method to the madness 🙂

~224 this year, ~221 the year before. but step 1 scores are dependent on the motivation of the individuals, really.

National mean is 225, right? I could've sworn that at my interview day, we were told BU students scored significantly above average...?

Hey man, if they score average and still match this well, I'm a very, very happy camper

Keep in mind that average is just that........an average. I'm pretty sure I heard of someone in the current M4 class at BUSM getting a 274 when I was a GMS student and overheard a now m4, then M2 talking on the phone to a friend about her classmates. I'm sure there were many others with 240+ step 1 scores or 230s even.

Well those are the numbers we were given by the OME. FWIW there have been ppl with scores >270 for the past 2 yrs..

As I stated before average is just that, an average. It doesn't give the full range or mode or median so its not easy to decipher much.

PS its bad when you are so nervous for your friend who is a year below you trying to get in that you keep checking to see if any of you guys posted anything about acceptances. :xf: my fingers for said friend!!

Just to clarify...I have no doubts BUSM students can kill the USMLE Step 1. I'm sure it happens all the time. I'm just saying it's comforting to know that everybody matches to good to elite programs, from the bottom 10% to the top 10%, which is awesome.

Yo EAGLE! Hope you got into your number 1 man! You've been a great mentor for us, and we appreciate it!

Actually, I'm matching next year! Took this year off to get MPH - so if anyone has any questions about MD/MPH program at BU after you all get your acceptances, just let me know, I'll be happy to answer any questions!

did you ever get the PM I sent you some time ago?? Funny how times change. lol

For those of you trying to plan flights, I called the office of admissions today to get a timeline for the second look day. This is the information I was told: The day concludes at around 6:30 pm. However, there is an optional social that is set to start around 8:00 pm (the Secretary said that this is put on by current medical students). There was no mention of the time that the social would conclude.

Any current students care to elaborate a little on the "social"?

One floor of a bar/restaurant is rented out - there are appetizers, drinks (cash bar, I think). This is a really nice time to meet members of your future class as well as upperclassmen informally, and really ask any burning questions that you couldn't ask during the 2nd look. This is a really awesome opportunity to meet people. There's no official end time - you can come and go as you please. Many people will end up going out afterwards together too.

It's quiet in here...too quiet...

Awesome to above.

... do any current students know when we should expect to hear something?

I really wish they would hurry up and let us know either way. I'd like to start planning my life for the next 4+ years. It would be nice to lock down living arrangements before all the good apartments in the area around BUSM/BMC are leased.

They have new housing for med students next year...I suspect that most M1s will want to live there (subsidized and BRAND SPANKING NEW!).

The new dorms are for single students only. They look nice, but I have a wife and kids. They don't have any arraignments that could accommodate us. So I would be at the mercy of the rental housing market, which is tough and expensive in Boston. The good thing for me is that I'm local, but I just don't want to end up in a bad area. But I suppose I'll only have that problem if I get in...

Note for those who are not from the Boston area: most of the rentals are "for fee" rentals. That means that you have to go through a real estate agent and pay them a months worth of rent even if you find the place on Craigslist. This fee is not refundable. So if you plan on renting, it will essentially cost you 3x the month rent to just move in (1 month rent, security deposit, and fee)

If you move into harrison court or that place on albany called 601 or 610 albany (I always forget which it is), then I'm sure you can get a place where you can take your family cuz HC allowed you to take family to such. James court too. And after seeing what housing for med students in detroit is like I have a new appreciation for HC and kinda miss it. lol.

But yes I do feel your pain cuz it is tough in boston especially.

with my friend waiting to hear, i keep checking this thread to see if any of you have posted and its making me kinda anxious for her cuz I really want to see her get in.

Ah yes, the anxiety of waiting is excruciating.

Btw, she is so lucky to have a friend like you 😉

Hey guys!

I have a couple of questions for the current students at BUSM...
I know that some medical schools want their students to be business casual for clinical days, is that the case at BUSM as well?

Thanks!

What do you mean by "clinical days"? Do you mean during 3/4th year rotations? The dress is dependent on rotation - but usually either shirt/tie for guys or scrubs and white coat. During the pre-clinical years, if there's any patient exposure (like during Introduction to Clinical Medicine), dress code is shirt/tie or comparable for girls, and white coat. There's no dress code for classes.

Yup, I meant to say ICM. Thanks! And thats once a week, right?

Yes - but not all ICM days involve patient care. First semester 1st year is patient care each ICM day, but I believe for others, it's not. ICM also involves learning physical exam skills on other students (no dress code) and standardized patient interaction (dress code).

I feel your pain. I have a husband and a dog that are coming with me, and I'm looking at areas like JP, and perhaps Fenway. They're a bit cheaper than the areas around South End and still close enough through the BU shuttle. Hope things work out!

MDWoman, how much time would it take to get to campus from those areas? I have a dog too and I'd like to be able to get home quickly...

A lot of people also live in the Allston area, close to the BU undergrad campus. Apartments there are much cheaper and some places can be a short walk away from the BU shuttle. If you have a car, it's like a 7-10 min drive in traffic in the morning. Other students I know biked from that area.

The Fenway is nice and is a lot more professionally oriented than Allston/Brighton (which is a little more "lively" at night). I've never been in any of the apartments there, but they all look very well maintained from the outside. There's lots to do in that neighborhood and it's right on the Green Line. It's also a lot cleaner that some of the other areas of the city. It's in easy walking distance of the Museum of Fine Arts, Symphony Hall, Several Parks, Dining, Shopping, and of course Fenway Park. I'm not sure about the commute though, which could potentially get complicated during baseball season.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In January.

I'm so sorry, I couldn't resist. Plz don't ban me bro.

Received the rejection email about 10 minutes ago after being deferred in January.

Good luck to the rest of you! :luck:

Aww, sorry to hear 🙁 best of luck with your other schools!

I guess this means that BU has started notifying students... nervous now!

I'm sorry 🙁. What a bummer. Good luck with your other schools.

So nervous now. And I have two exams this week.

Rejected too. I don't really care though... my interviewer was rude, unprofessional, and bitter. Turned me off for BU completely.
