I should have known I was screwed when I skimmed through this thread and saw all the rejections of people with great stats. Ugh. Rejected 19 days after complete, OOS, 37Q and 3.9. I'm wondering what they're looking for as well... Anyway, first rejection.. Thanks a lot Boston!

Don't worry about it. It's probably just yield protection. I've heard a couple of stories of BU playing the "game" particularly hard (though admittedly they didn't occur in the past year or so).

Complete 8/31 exactly 21 days in. It seems most people got their decisions around the 30 day mark so impatiently waiting, I guess.

rejected. 34/3.9/ceo.

i'm not gonna lie, i had about as much desire to pay 50k a year to go this non top 25 school as i do to be a nurse.

i suspect they realized that since i've already received interviews from much better schools.

Bitter much? I got an II and IIs at "better ranked" med schools. Honestly, I like BU better than those schools. Maybe they saw you were lacking qualities that are conducive to good medicine, like humility for example.

I don't understand why people have to put down medical schools.

*I should say I like BU "as much" as the other schools. UC schools are awesome.

My friends with "great stats" were given II, so let's not be too quick to rationalize rejections based on "great stats" alone. There are lurking variables like EC, Research, and Leadership, for example.

Not to say you lack those, I'm just saying let's give BU the credit it deserves and realize this process is a crapshoot.

I mean, I suppose I could have said "good EC's" but that seems kind of vague. I have several fellowships/volunteering and own my own company. I figured CEO would be the most concise way to show me as unique.

And yes, I am bitter. No one likes getting rejections, especially from schools they think they are more than qualified for. I.e. I'm not pissed at chicago for rejecting me.

This whole humility thing is for squares. Everyone shows it in person and when it is necessary, but we're trying to sell ourselves to medical schools. I think the idea is silly, but hey, I'm the one who got rejected, lol.

But I'm pumped for Pitt! viva la city of steel!

I own a designing company in NorCal, and my title is "partner". Feigning humility isn't really humility, is it?

The worst thing you could do is not learn from a rejection, right?

FWIW, arrogance can get people killed in medicine. I'll let you use your imagination, or you can just as easily Google it. BTW, I've seen it almost happen.

Haha I wasn't saying that I got rejected because of my stats! I said I am wondering what they are looking for that I lacked, since I'm pretty sure my stats weren't to blame (same with a lot of other people in this thread).

EDIT: I also wasn't calling my stats great. I was just saying. Lots of people in this thread got rejected outright with great stats.
I too got rejected outright. I wonder what we all lacked that BU wants? That's all.

All I meant is that judging from this thread, clearly Boston cares about a lot more than stats. I know other schools do too, but they don't reject people so early in the cycle. When you get rejected outright sooo early in the cycle with numbers that are very competitive at the school, it's like... OH GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY APP. Nevermind, I give up, I will stop talking.

Anyone know how student hosts work with BU? I couldn't find any information about it in their II emails...My interview is 10/03 and will just need a place to crash the night of Oct. 2nd, so if any of you are in BU area and can accommodate that would be great too!

Maybe BU saw that bit of personality somewhere in your application. I'm pretty thankful to BU admissions for not having anyone in my class with the kind of awesome personality like yours.
Humility is pretty damn important in medicine. Hopefully you'll realize that during your third year, no matter where you are.

Noone knows how BU decides on who to reject/interview/accept expect the admissions committee. I'm sure that they must have developed a way to take 11,000 applications and significantly dwindle them down. Most people who apply to med schools have decent stats.

Try calling the admissions office and asking them about it. I know that several students are willing to host.

Just called. Apparently they don't have a "list" available yet, so I'm hoping they come out with it soon or that someone on here can help out, because the hotels in the area are all $200+/night!

Sooo anyone else around here complete for 2+ months with no word?

No 30 day email here. Ugh. I love BU but looking for some reciprocation... or even a rejection would be nice by now so I could just let it go. 🙁

Here. Complete 7/18, no news at all.

👍

I have an average GPA/low MCAT/great ECs and I got an interview and my friend has a 3.8/37/great ECs and also received an interview. I think BU really does view their applicants holistically, so for everyone with "great stats" and rejections that think they are too good for BU might want to reconsider.

Interview Invite!!! Finally it comes!

Keep your hopes up! The nice short email will arrive in your box sometime soon.

anyone having trouble signing on to status page this a.m?

Any updates on their student hosts list? It's almost October so interviews are going to be starting soon. Did they even give us a list of hotels that they have discounts with?

Complete 9/7
Rejected 9/26

3.9/32/maybe my ECs weren't good enough?

It's been about 2 weeks since my 30 day email. I wish I'd just hear something from them.

Interview Invite!! Complete August 4, (late) 30 Day Sept. 14. Dates available were for late November. I'm so excited, I love Boston!

What does "great ECs" mean?

I've lead/created/fund-raised for 4 Hispanic community outreach projects (two of which are now permanent), co-lead group therapy for adolescents, spent months abroad volunteering, worked full-time while attending undergrad full-time. Plus all of the "normal" pre-med stuff - bench research, clinical research, shadowing, hospital volunteering, tutoring, etc. PM if you want details...

Got my 30 day email this morning...I hope it's not too long from now!

Interview Invite!! 33, 3.99, In-State.
Complete 8/14
30 Day Email 9/14

Happy Friday!

If you did these activities without working, then I'd view these as good extracurriculars.
If you did them WHILE working 40 hours a week, they are herculean feats; very great work.
Congrats on the interview invite; you earned it.

On the website all of my stuff is in but I haven't received an email? Does the email take a few days?

Thanks! It's been interesting... Good luck!

Complete September 2. 30-day email today

hey everyone, I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum but I had a question about the 30 e-mail thing. Does it mean that you are going to get an interview or did someone just find a correlation between the two? In other words, can i still get rejected without an interview after getting the 30-day email?

People have definitely gotten rejected after receiving the 30-day email. On the other hand, lots of people get rejected or receive an interview well before the 30-day mark. My guess is that if you pass the 30 days, then you're a relatively low priority for an interview invitation, but still worth their consideration.

I know that many people get rejected at the 19-day mark, but there have only been one or two on this thread (that I remember) that got an interview before the 30-day mark. From what's been posted, it seems as though it's like a 50/50 shot of getting an interview after getting the 30-day e-mail. Who knows, though!

I'm basing my conclusions on what I've seen on this thread as well as a few of my friends that have applied this year. A lot of people I know personally were rejected by the 21 day mark, but I know a couple of people who received an interview invitation just as fast.

Complete 8/16, still no news lol (though did get 30 day email a while ago)
