Accepted! I checked my iApply at 1:40pm and it was updated.

man, the backdrop to that new building looks like a communist-bloc housing unit in comparison, no? Glad i don't live there. Sweet new building, no? 🙂

Я не знаю, что вы говорите.

Мне так жаль слышать это. Я надеюсь, что вам повезет больше применения в другие школы!

Edit:

Это может измениться в Весна. Я желаю вам удачи!

Do you guys refer to your school as "Case" for short, or did I just make that up. Can't decide if I should use that or "CWR" in my update letter. Probably being way too neurotic about this but oh well.

I interviewed there recently. The student interview was interesting. We talked about an obscure portion of my AMCAS experiences from six plus years ago for about half my interview.

Thats was probably to make sure you weren't just padding your app with stuff you did six years ago.

Yes, we refer ourselves as Case students, but I would err on the side of safety and use the full "Case Western Reserve University School Of Medicine" before you use any acronyms. And it would be CWRU-SOM not CWR. But I think Myuu can enlight us further.

CWRU = the whole place
Case = whatever in context
Casemed = the medical school

CWR = nothing
CW = nothing
C = nothing, unless proceeded by A and B and followed by D, etc...

:laugh:

I would also use the full name, or interchangeably refer to it as the School of Medicine.

Case Western Reserve University School of Entirely Too Many Words, while my favorite, is probably not going to get you anywhere. CWRU, Case, and CaseMed are all acceptable.

It is 8pm on Wednesday the 30th of November, 2011, and I have officially been rejected from the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine.

I guess the interview went worse than I thought 🙁

After 13 weeks and 1 day, I finally got an interview at both programs! Interviews not scheduled until Feb but at least I'm a step closer!

How big of a component is the interview in an acceptance at case? I know they interview ~1100 OOS students a year so I was just curious about that. Is it the sort of thing that you've looked good on paper and now you just gotta ace the interviews or do they still go back and really scrutinize your app despite a great interview?

I don't think there is much of a difference between OOS and IS at case since it is a private school. It would be nice if there was though. 🙂

I am wondering if someone knows how many percent accepted UP applicants were selected to apply the merit scholarships? Thanks.

I got rejected from VCU (IS!) and waitlisted at EVMS and today I get an II to the College Program at Case (after the regular program was the first school to reject me!). I don't know what's going on, but I figure scheduling my interview on Jan, Fri the 13th will help keep things as interesting as they have been. At least I've already gotten in somewhere....

Your Russian is pretty good, but you're missing a few declensions (need to learn your Case Eastern). And the translation of "applying" is the other definition of the word, as in "applying effort." 😀

Пиво со сметанои это Viagra по нашому.

CP interview invite! Complete since 7/22, finally...

So no reply from student hosts. Anyone have a recommendation for an affordable place to stay and method to get to the interview site 😀?

Doubletree Tudor arms cost a bill after interview discount and it's a 4 minute walk from the med-school and they have a limousine shuttle service as well.

Oh wow really? How do you get the interview discount, just ask for it? Sorry if this stuff is in the visitors guide/website...I haven't looked at it as close as I should have😛.

Honestly I got to the hotel at 9p.m. (was running super late with flight delays and definitely should've made a reservation), I told them I needed a room. All they had were rooms with 2 queen beds which normally ran for $200, and I said that's fine and asked if there was an interview discount. They wanted proof of my interview, I pulled it up on my iPhone and showed it to them and they reduced the price to $100 and the room was definitely a 4-star hotel room.

No difference at all!

Glidden is super-close if you're interviewing with the university program. How far off is your interview?

Yeah, you can just tell them you're interviewing with us.👍

So CCLMC interviews 200 people for 32 slots! Those odds sound pretty bad. I doubt there is much wait-list movement for such a coveted program. I'm feeling a lot of pressure for this interview, especially since I have so few options at this point.

Can any current students comment on the kind of "fit" CCLMC is looking for? Judging by the forum, it seems like a lot of non-trad super-nerds, which is good because most schools seem to love jocks. My sci-fi trivia knowledge is decent, and I've just finished reviewing all 7 seasons of ST-TNG, so I'm good to go on that.

Also, one more question: What is the best route from airport to CCLMC interview? I know to start with the train to the Tower, but then just a cab?

Man, I had no idea it was that crazy! I'm guessing the acceptance rate and the matriculation rate are pretty close at CCLCM, right? Really wish I could have scheduled my interview before Feb 6.

I like the sound of this. By the way, there are FOUR lights. 😀

There are obviously only three lights, but most of the people I've met from CCLCM wouldn't know that.

There's plenty of waitlist movement. As to what they're looking for, I recommend reading up on the curriculum and then based on that, imagining someone who would function well in that environment.

Indeed! Diaphragmatic breathing helps stimulate the (myelinated) vagus thus increasing the amplitude of respiratory sinus arrythmia (RSA) and decreasing sympathetic tone and lots of other cool stuff! Polyvagal theory = A MUST KNOW. http://terpconnect.umd.edu/~sporges/polyvag.htm The model has implications to everything from asthma to autism to why children make faces.

How much is the CCLCM interview based off of your research experiences? Is it much more than a typical interview?

After a long application process, I am finally complete :xf: :laugh:

Interviewing one week from tomorrow! 😀 Super excited. Also, I get to stay with the lovely and wonderful phnerd. 😍

I know I'm probably super early in asking about apartments, but I'm just trying to get a jump on things. I'm looking for a place or area that would be great for entertaining my fellow soon to be MS1s. Back in my undergraduate years I had my classmates over all the time to eat/relax/hang out/ crash/ study.

I'm thinking, like enough living space for at least 10-15 people, closer to campus or easy to get to, nice to have a roomate(s). Is that reasonable?

idk if this question has been answered, but i think people who have already interviewed will find out by christmas.

Yes, I think someone mentioned earlier that we would find out in the third week of December.

Complete in late July, rejected CP weeks back but still no news on the UP front. Am I likely just waiting for a March rejection? Puzzled. Should I call? LOI?

I saw a pretty sweet house in Shaker Heights that would fit that description.

I have been doing some casual searching on Craigslist and it seems like Little Italy/Shaker Heights/University Heights have plenty of nice housing options.

My interview is in 2 days!! I saw that a few others were interviewing on the 6th also. I will see you all there!

Even if we don't get accepted into CCLCM this round, will we still hear some sort of status update this month (hold, rejection, high-hold)?

Are there any places like that in University Circle? I'm looking at a map right now, but I can't tell if those other areas are "everyday walking distance" to campus. Is that feasable? Or do most CaseMed student drive in?

Little Italy is walking distance to the school. Also, many students live in either The Triangle apartment complex (on Euclid and Mayfield) or Waldorf Apartments (forgot the street, but its at the top of a hill). Both are within walking distance

There's a really nice part of shaker heights and an 11-bodies-in-the-attic part of shaker heights. Whereabouts are you thinking?

University Circle has some places around north campus near wade park. Most of the area is apartment/undergrad dorm though.
