Hey guys I have a question need some insight. So I recently signed up for a post bacc program with a pretty decent medical school to get a Masters in Physiology. Should I let George Washington know about this or should I just stay quiet.

A) GW could take this as oh this guy is staying academically active after graduating and not just laying around in the house

or

B) GW could take this as Oh well lets have this guy complete his masters, we will see if he can handle the academic challenge (since my GPA is low) and then maybe he can apply next year.

So what exactly should I do!?

Well, why are you getting the Masters in Physio? Is it to stay "academically active," to boost your GPA in the event of a reapplication, because you didn't have anything better to do, or because you're genuinely interested and think the degree is going to add something to your profession?

I can't see any reason why you'd want to keep it from them. But the most effective course of action, IMO, is to try describe how that MS program ties into your medical interests and future path.

EDIT: Holy crap! This is my first time being on top. On SDN.

I would tell them about it, personally. Although, it sounds like you probably won't be one who gets an early interview. I would keep them up to date, though throughout the process.

Yeah I completed GW 07/15 and had been placed on re-review about 2 weeks later. It's been a couple weeks now and I'm stuck on re-review/ no decision yet mode. Do you think telling them about my post-bacc would do any favors in terms of getting off the re-review status?

Well it's a post -bacc program from Georgetown University designed to make students take first year med student classes. Now I took it for all the reasons you stated. I love studying, I'm bored at home and tired of not going to school for the past 6 months. I feel like it will also boost my GPA and show that I'm a committed student. However, I have no idea if this post-bacc program which I will do regardless of getting accepted to medical school this cycle or not will actually help me in this cycle? I've been put on re-reviews/possibility for interview in at least 2 other schools.

EDIT:- I signed up & got accepted to this program about 2 weeks ago and will fulfill this program no matter what. I feel like continuing my academic career with a masters will help me maintain my academic discipline.

Ok...I am so excited got an interview today!! I do have an anal question though. My status page still says I'm under rereview (hope for the re-reviewers). Have they just not updated? (I really hope it wasn't an accident email!)

same here...mine still says they are waiting for my MCAT scores (which were released Tuesday), but I got the invite today.

It says on the status page that the site is only updated weekly, so I would not worry about it!

When did you submit if you don't mind me asking? I got my MCAT back the week before you (7/6 test date) and still show as waiting for MCAT score.

Slev,

I took my MCAT on the same day. AMCAS should have automatically uploaded your new score to your primary application. Perhaps GW hasn't marked it yet? You can check either by calling AMCAS or on your test hx page, it should say yes under "shared" or something of that nature. If I was you, I would just call amcas in the morning.

Good luck

How do they offer interview invites so quickly after turning in secondaries? do they even read your secondary response? or have time to look through your LOR's? I think it might just be a numbers thing, im not sure...

I mailed my secondary on 6/23 and received the complete e-mail on 6/29. My LORs have been uploaded since June as well.

The status page still says they are waiting for MCAT scores, as does the status page of all the other schools I've applied to. I'm guessing the scores have been received, but it depends when they update their site.

For GW, my app was probably in the "Interview if MCAT score is high enough" since I submitted so early. That is exactly what happened to a friend of mine last cycle.

If it helps, my stats are: 31R, sGPA 3.8, overall GPA 3.81, grad GPA 4.0 (I have an MS in Bio). I'd had a 24Q... so I'm sure they had a min MCAT in mind to interview me... I hope that helps!

Verified 07/08; Complete 08/16; interview invite today 08/19. Yay!! 😀

Complete 8/16, Interview invite 8/19!! So excited, this is my first interview invite. I applied to GWU last year, but was rejected pre-interview. I really like this school!

wow all these re-reviews to interviews are giving me some hope! best of luck to you guys!

Seriously though, it seems almost everyone is being put "on hold" at one point or another before their interview invite. Do the invites come by e-mail?

Ivy League simultaneous undergrad/graduate degrees, 41R MCAT, 3.8cGPA, 3.7sGPA, "on hold".

Yes I mad.

Yes, invite by email

My status page said "Your file is now complete. At this point we have received all the necessary credentials including your secondary application and your letters of recommendation in order for your application to be reviewed..." It actually still says that now.. I guess it takes a while to be updated. I got the invite via email.

30M; 3.80; URM

Got off hold today, invited for interview!

Was on hold since July 13, so yes, there is hope for everyone 🙂

placed on re-review for a couple weeks before getting interview invite

mcat 32S
sci gpa: 3.6
overall gpa: 3.65

Got an interview invite!! (after being placed on re-review)

31R, cGPA 3.81, sGPA 3.8, grad GPA 4.00(I have an MS in Bio)

sorta non-traditional: graduated with BS in 2008 from American (in DC) and MS at American in 2010. I've been at NIH since then.

My status still says I'm on MCAT hold (scores reported 8/16), but I got the invite via e-mail 8/18 for an interview on 10/7.

Are these good odds in comparison to most schools? ~700 people rejected after interview...just sounds like a lot of people. :scared:

I think those numbers seem worse than they are. My guess is that many people who interview at GW would rather take an acceptance elsewhere (and probably will). This probably becomes apparent over time and several of these candidates are not accepted. Just my guess.

Mmm..maybe. Maybe the original poster meant 300 straight acceptances, which would not include acceptances off the waitlist.

Keep it in mind that when you see numbers like this you are not seeing the whole picture. It is very likely that out of those 900 plus people that were interviewed 302 were DIRECTLY offered acceptance after being interviewed and maybe 50 to 100 were directly rejected. The rest were most likely waitlisted and many people on the waitlist were offered an acceptance but because no school ever posts numbers about the number of people offered acceptance off the waitlist you just can't know.
Moral of the story is just because you see only a few people accepted don't assume that means the remaining were rejected. Most people get waitlisted after an interview and many people get accepted off the waitlist. Don't down play the waitlist.

After an interview, GWU doesn't reject people right away. Rather, you're put in the alternate pool, where you can either get an acceptance eventually or be rejected altogether at the end

And don't forget that many people withdraw their apps at some point when they get in somewhere they are thrilled about (lucky bastards).

Hey guys

I'm an MS1 here at GW. If any of you guys have questions about GW or the interview, send me a PM and I will do my best to answer them. Best of luck! You guys will love it here🙂

Placed on hold today. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, I really like this school. Here's hoping for an Interview Invite sometime in the future.

Just checked my status here for the first time since getting my complete email. On re-review 🙁 I know I shouldn't be sad since I can see that people are getting off re-review and getting interviews, but...you know. It would be nicer to see an interview invite 🙄

Aw, I got put on re-review too. This is my first post here. i am really sad about this.

Earlier in the thread someone else mentioned having been put on "hold" with a 41 MCAT and a 3.8cGPA.

Posts like that have made me feel less bad about being put on "hold" here. 👍

Interview invite! I'm really surprised, it seems like such crapshoot when there's less than one interview slot for every 10 applicants.

Does anyone know how they choose our interview dates? Not that it really matters, I'm just wondering why people already have dates after I do.

Hey Guys just a quick question:
My primaries are still being verified by amcas and
Knowing that GW sends auto secondaries, should I still send it in?

Thanks again.

Definitely. Why wouldn't you? As long as you are confident in your scores/stats, the sooner they get it, the sooner your file is complete, the sooner your file will be reviewed, especially considering they use snail mail! I sent mine as soon as I finished it! It seems GW has offered a lot of interviews thus far, so I definitely would not hesitate to get in the review pile.

Agreed! I sent mine in before I was verified, too!

Weird thing is they marked me as complete before my mcat score was released lol

Does anyone else keep getting emails from GWU in error? I've now received 3 emails telling me my application is complete with a link to the status page (which has not change).

Oh and congrats to all of you getting interviews!

Interview invitation! Second one that I received today. 😀 Need to plan my trip down to D.C. once I finalize the date.

All of these people getting interviews from the re-review category are really boosting my confidence. I was convinced I had essentially just been rejected. Here's to holding on 🙂
